That was huge!! I don't care who's going to pitch the bottom of the 10th. I just care that we get to it (preferably with a lead - but I'm getting ahead of myself).
   202. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:31 PM (#5536476)
Hey, the Brewers still have a major league starter on their bench? That's not fair.
   203. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:31 PM (#5536477)
If it worked for Javy...
   204. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:34 PM (#5536479)
The last three Brewers innings have been unbearable.
   205. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:34 PM (#5536480)
I wish maples had got some more looks, hate to throw him out there in the 10th, but...
   206. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:35 PM (#5536481)
Wow. It continues to amaze me that anyone would ever want to watch football instead of this.
   207. Andere Richtingen Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:35 PM (#5536482)
I just threw my salsa up in my lap.
   208. Kiko Sakata Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:36 PM (#5536483)
Yes!

I know they've been talking about the Brewers' bullpen being wiped out from yesterday. But at some point, Counsell's just going to bite the bullet and bring in a tired, but good, relief pitcher. While the Cubs will eventually have to hope that Jen-Ho Tseng has gotten over his first-game jitters. The Cubs REALLY need to score here and let Davis try to close out his own win in the bottom of the 10th.

Seriously. This has been terrific. I have no rooting interest, I’m exhausted and I have a big meeting in the morning but dammit I want to go see the end of this.
   210. Nero Wolfe, Indeed Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:38 PM (#5536485)
Should be a two base error.
   211. Bote Man Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:38 PM (#5536486)
A pitch that catches the center box on the pitch tracker is called a ball.
   212. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:38 PM (#5536487)
I'll take it.
   213. Kiko Sakata Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:39 PM (#5536488)
Oof. I thought Broxton was better than that. Big break for the Cubs. Make the Brewers pay!!
   214. Jose is an Absurd Doubles Machine Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:39 PM (#5536489)
Oh the unnecessary jump cost him.
   215. Jose is an Absurd Doubles Machine Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:39 PM (#5536490)
A bit fortunate for the Brewers that it fell at his feet and didn’t let Jay go to third.
   216. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:40 PM (#5536491)
While the Cubs will eventually have to hope that Jen-Ho Tseng has gotten over his first-game jitters.

That strikes me as a pretty decent idea, actually.
   217. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:40 PM (#5536492)
Are there any Brewers fans in our community here? I can't think of any.
   218. cardsfanboy Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:41 PM (#5536493)
So, the Cubs have now used 20 players. They've had pitchers at 5 different lineup positions and have circled back around with Davis in the #9 hole. I can't decide if that's awesome or horrible. And come on, Wade! You can't blame Maddon for this one. He got his relief ace into a tie game.

How many mid inning pitching changes? That is the tilting factor for me, I don't care about double switches at the beginning of the inning, it doesn't matter in the scheme of things(although it makes scorekeeping annoying as f)
   219. Kiko Sakata Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:42 PM (#5536494)
How many mid inning pitching changes?

I believe two - Strop for Duensing and Davis for Grimm. The latter made perfect sense; the former probably less so, especially given Strop's subsequent performance.
   220. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:42 PM (#5536495)
!!!!!!!
   221. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:43 PM (#5536496)
Anyone for a tempranillo toast?
   222. Kiko Sakata Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:43 PM (#5536497)
Yes!! Keep pouring it on, so it doesn't matter who pitches the bottom of the 10th (I still bring out Davis for now)!
   223. Jose is an Absurd Doubles Machine Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:43 PM (#5536498)
Holy crap did he demolish that.

Are there any Brewers fans in our community here? I can't think of any.

Don't remember the names, but there are a couple of fairly regular posters that are Brewer fans. (besides Harvey) Sad that I can't remember their name, since I know I have interacted with them fairly frequently.
   225. Andere Richtingen Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:43 PM (#5536500)
Oh man.
   226. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:43 PM (#5536501)
Maples in the 10th. He was the closer in Iowa and has the best stuff.
   227. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:44 PM (#5536502)
HR?!?!
   228. Kiko Sakata Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:44 PM (#5536503)
Edit to 219: Grimm replaced Wilson mid-inning, too, so they did mid-inning pitching changes in each of the 7th, 8th, and 9th. Which was a bit tedious.

Yes! Rizzo!! I think they're going to wave him home.
   229. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:44 PM (#5536504)
(besides Harvey)

Of course...sigh. [pours some tempranillo on the ground]
   230. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:44 PM (#5536505)
I like Kris Bryant. He... hits home runs for the Cubs.
   231. Jose is an Absurd Doubles Machine Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:45 PM (#5536506)
Oliver Drake is pitching like a guy that wasn’t good enough for the Orioles.
   232. cardsfanboy Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:45 PM (#5536507)
single away from the cycle for the inning, that is something special in extra innings.
   233. Nero Wolfe, Indeed Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:45 PM (#5536508)
I'm kinda rooting for the Wisconsin teams this year (Brewers and Packers). I have a lot of friends up there, and rooting for my hometown Giants and 49ers is a little rough this year.
   234. Andere Richtingen Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:46 PM (#5536509)
LOVE the Drake.
   235. The Honorable Ardo Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:46 PM (#5536510)
Cubs reminding everyone that they're the defending World Champions. What a game.

I've said it before, but if the St. Louis-Chicago-Milwaukee axis can remain competitive in the division for several years, that's going to be a lot of fun for all involved.
   238. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:47 PM (#5536513)
NTNgod. Wasn't there a guy with Sausage Racer? Harveys had some relations post off and on, mostly in the lounge.
   239. Jose is an Absurd Doubles Machine Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:47 PM (#5536514)
I feel for Drake here. He’s a JAG in every sense, just doing what he can to stay in the bigs and probably won’t get too many chances in a spot this big and he’s just getting slaughtered. The Cubs have hit about 1300 feet of baseball in three batters.
   240. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:48 PM (#5536515)
This guy Drake isn't much for the "mechanics" of the "windup," is he? He's sub-Jason Motte in that category.
   241. The Honorable Ardo Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:49 PM (#5536516)
Drake's day is done, as Carlos Torres (who probably should've started the inning) replaces him.
   242. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:49 PM (#5536517)

What's the record for replays in a single game?
   245. Nero Wolfe, Indeed Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:53 PM (#5536520)
No matter how bad the bullpens were tonight, they had a better night than the home plate ump.
   246. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:53 PM (#5536521)
Strange play all around.
   247. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:53 PM (#5536522)
Unfortunately, they're both out.
   248. Andere Richtingen Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:54 PM (#5536523)
Rizzo was safe, but his balls were out.
   249. Bote Man Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:55 PM (#5536524)
The Pineapple tagged Rizzo on the knee, but it was obstructed from view on most camera angles.

Lesson: never let a pineapple play catcher.
   250. Kiko Sakata Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:55 PM (#5536525)
Yeah, how did the home-plate umpire miss the Rizzo call? It was so obvious, my first thought was that the catcher must have dropped the ball.
   251. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:56 PM (#5536526)
This ump, he is the worst.
   252. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:56 PM (#5536527)
Hopefully that doesn't loom large.
   253. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:56 PM (#5536528)
Yeah, how did the home-plate umpire miss the Rizzo call?

Because he's not good at his job?
   254. Bote Man Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:57 PM (#5536530)
This ump, he is the worst.

He doesn't just mess up ball/strike calls, he goes the extra mile!
   255. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 21, 2017 at 11:58 PM (#5536531)
Lesson: never let a pineapple play catcher.

Pineapples are more suited to the infield, if the haircuts of players like Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez are any indication.
   256. Kiko Sakata Posted: September 22, 2017 at 12:00 AM (#5536532)
A three-run homer here would be REALLY nice.
   257. Andere Richtingen Posted: September 22, 2017 at 12:02 AM (#5536533)
A three-out bottom of the tenth will do..
   258. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 22, 2017 at 12:03 AM (#5536534)
OK, Wade, this is *kind of* a save situation, if you think about it in a certain way...
   259. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 22, 2017 at 12:08 AM (#5536535)
Easy peasy.

6.

Still, fire this ump into the sun.
   260. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 22, 2017 at 12:09 AM (#5536536)
Welp. That was big.
   261. Kiko Sakata Posted: September 22, 2017 at 12:09 AM (#5536537)
Yes!! Magic number is SIX!! That was a phenomenal game. If you didn't enjoy that game, you're either not a baseball fan or you're a Brewers fan (sorry, Brewers fans).
   262. Nero Wolfe, Indeed Posted: September 22, 2017 at 12:10 AM (#5536538)
I can't remember a game this bad by a home plate umpire since Eric Gregg and his oblong strike zone.
   263. The Honorable Ardo Posted: September 22, 2017 at 12:11 AM (#5536539)
Joe Maddon did just about everything right. He used his limited bullpen as best he could (using Davis in a tie game on the road), and he put Leonys Martin into right field to keep Walker from scoring in the 9th.

On that note, burning Quintin Berry in the 7th, with a man on base in front of him, may not have been the greatest plan for Craig Counsell.

Javier Baez is playing out of his mind. Last out, last strike, base hit through the infield...
   264. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 22, 2017 at 12:11 AM (#5536540)
Still, fire this ump into the sun.

I think there are certain hoops you have to jump through with the union before you can do that. They're very reluctant to allow their members to be fired into the sun.
   265. Nero Wolfe, Indeed Posted: September 22, 2017 at 12:11 AM (#5536541)
Yes!! Magic number is SIX!! That was a phenomenal game. If you didn't enjoy that game, you're either not a baseball fan or you're a Brewers fan (sorry, Brewers fans).

It was still an enjoyable game, and the Cubs won't have Davis tomorrow while Milwaukee gets the good end of their bullpen back.
   266. Kiko Sakata Posted: September 22, 2017 at 12:15 AM (#5536542)
the Cubs won't have Davis tomorrow

Yeah, the Cubs need a big effort from John Lackey (who's mostly been very good lately) and/or they need to break out the bats, so they can run out the back of the bullpen to close it out. Of course, the Brewers need tomorrow's win a lot more than the Cubs do now.
   267. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 22, 2017 at 12:17 AM (#5536543)

Since all cubs games are blacked out in indy, I don't get to see brewers cubs games, I listened on app, and cussed to myself rather than post here like Ray after the fact. Tense game clearly. Bang bang at 1st w the feet seems like one of 24 things to point at.
   271. Kiko Sakata Posted: September 22, 2017 at 12:46 AM (#5536551)
Bang bang at 1st w the feet

Honestly, as a Cubs fan, I thought Happ was out and I thought it was clear enough that they'd overturn. Very tough break for the Brewers on that one. At least they got the Rizzo play at the plate right upon further review (seriously, the throw beat Rizzo by two steps and he slid directly into the catcher's glove; I'm still dumbfounded that a major-league umpire could miss that one in real time).
   272. Brian C Posted: September 22, 2017 at 01:03 AM (#5536553)
Happ was *probably* out but I think the decision to let the call stand was the right one. There simply wasn't a conclusive shot (that showed on the Cubs' broadcast, anyway) that showed Jeffress's foot on the base before Happ's. There wasn't much for the replay official to do about it.
I think there are certain hoops you have to jump through with the union before you can do that. They're very reluctant to allow their members to be fired into the sun.

This can be solved by simply shooting the entire union into the sun, correct?

3.99 for mlb.tv, and another 3.99 for a proxy server will help you out for just this month.... (get a proxy from Seattle or some place that there won't be a local game on that you are worried about)

Thanks cfb, not enough initiative for that, besides nothing wrong w Uecker and co. I've got other work to do as well.
