Baseball Primer Newsblog— The Best News Links from the Baseball Newsstand

I am aghast at this news. Former Phillie Lenny Dykstra is a sexist, racist, sexual deviant and one of the biggest all-around lowlifes you’ll ever come across. So says a new book by financial journalist and ex-Dykstra employee Christopher Frankie, excerpted over the weekend by the New York Post.

Or maybe this explanation is a prank?
I don't even know anymore.
I realized that after I went back and read further down that thread.....don't I feel like the #######.
He may be a racist, pervert, sexist Communist porn star, but he is not Yuniesky Betancourt!
Bah, these are precisely the sort of people that are loads of fun to meet -- just not the sort of people you want to meet up with regularly... and I say that as Mets hater, with that hatred forged by the mid/early 80s Mets teams.
The secret ingredient was Vicks Vaporub. One swallow, and it made them all feel like champions!
I don't know if Gooden really belongs with that group. Keith Hernandez probably does. Most of those guys were first-class ######## and despicable human beings. Gooden was just a nice quiet kid with a problem that hurt mostly himself.
Chemistry baby, it's all chemistry...and of course the aforementioned fact that all these guys were good at baseball.
Most of this isn't news, though. The comments are all to that effect.
A substantial part of entertainment in this country is watching people humiliate themselves. People don't watch reality TV so they can see how the other half lives, they watch it so they can feel superior to the people on those shows. Same with the magazines in the supermarket checkout lines with Kim Kardashian pleading "Don't Call me Fat" (real headline this week) and stuff like that.
I'm pretty sure "I used to be rich but now I'm destitute and living on the street" would be the #1 show in America.
Are there any gruntled ex-employees of Dykstra?
Wait... Dykstra was evicted from his own mansion because it was excessively filthy?
For reasons I can't explain, I am fascinated by that show Hoarders. In one episode this woman's toilet had stopped flushing so she just kept crapping in there until a pyramid of crap was piled a foot higher than the rim of the bowl. My god!
No, that would be "Even though I'm beautiful, my kids are losers and my husband hates me".
Chocolate croissant?
I have the same unexplainable fascination with Intervention... I don't understand why I'm drawn to that show.
I have never seen an episode of that show (for which I am grateful), but I was told about an episode where one individual stopped using the toilet, and just started crapping in bags and storing them in a closet.
It just made me even happier for not having ever seen an episode of that show.
Oof. Haven't seen that one. I think I'm fascinated about how consistent the hoarders are in their behavior. It's as if they all have had the same switch in their brains flipped.
I've always found Ken Finkleman's Married Life kind of fascinating because it seemed to be such a deep analysis of reality TV back in 1995, when as far as I know reality TV as a major cultural phenomenon was still to happen.
I'm not sure it holds up as well as The Newsroom but it's weird to see such an early take on what reality TV is.
One of my aunts is a hoarder. When her cat died she wrapped it up in garbage bags and put it in the freezer. The worst part is that when her son heard the cat had died he knew what would happen, because she'd previously frozen a couple of other dead pets. So he drove halfway across Missouri just to take the cat out of the freezer and bury it.
