Baseball Primer Newsblog— The Best News Links from the Baseball Newsstand

Omar Minaya and his lieutenants met with Scott Boras, A-Rod’s agent, Tuesday night, here at the general managers’ meetings, to discuss the superstar third baseman. Boras also represents free-agent pitchers Eric Gagne and Kyle Lohse. A person familiar with the Mets’ thinking said the club is “not closing the door” on the idea of signing A-Rod.
...
SI.com reported that the Red Sox were set to meet with Boras Wednesday night to discuss A-Rod. But the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have been long believed the favorites to land A-Rod, and they have done nothing to discourage the perception… According to one major-league official, Angels owner Arte Moreno assured commissioner Bud Selig, with whom he is close, that he wouldn’t obliterate spending records to land A-Rod.
...
The Mets, meanwhile, have interest in Carlos Silva, arguably the best starting pitcher available on the free-agent market. There are pitchers potentially available in trades—Jose Contreras and Jon Garland of the White Sox, Joe Blanton of the A’s and Cliff Lee of the Indians—but the Mets have few trading chips that intrigue other clubs. “I’ve always felt that it’s easier to get a free agent done than a trade done,” Minaya said.
...
If Posada goes back to the Yankees, the Mets will look more seriously at Yorvit Torrealba, who puts up very modest offensive numbers but would be a defensive upgrade over Paul Lo Duca.
More A-Rod and other rumors…

I like Silva but that contract is going to be scary.
And the word is that there won't be a new owner until after the 2008 season starts.
But to answer your question, I suppose it would be the Phillies. He would complete a remarkable infield and probably thrive on offense at the Cit. Would it be the most comfortable environment for him? Probably not, but he might find it surprisingly easier than New York or Boston. However, Phils management may still have sour feelings with Boras over J.D. Drew, so this conjecture could be moot.
If the second part of that is true, the first part isn't.
East Coast bias indeed.
The Angels are one of my favorite teams to watch. But as a Mets fan I am probably somehow reversed biased into thinking that - the AL West teams have the least possible connection to my team and thus seem really new and exciting and exotic when I get to watch them.
Thank you, #15, that was it exactly - the first part anyhow.
Also, I lived in the Anaheim area. I'm sorry, but I cannot be convinced it's not a boring place.
(I didn't ask for the LEAST likely place he'd end up, I asked for the most likely of the less likely places. OK, it was like following Pynchon, but that's what I meant. I'd kill for him to be a Pirate or Royal, but that's just not going to happen.)
