News-Leader.com: Springfield Cardinals Add Left-handed Pitcher

The roster moves keep coming for the Springfield Cardinals.

The club acquired left-handed pitcher Joe Williams today from the Independent League.

A minor transaction, notable in that this is Joe Williams the Mike Marshall disciple.

Watching the videos of the Marshall pitchers is fascinating. I would guess batters would be upset by the pitching motion. Some of the cues in the delivery seem to be off from "regular" pitchers.

That why I knew that name - thanks! The 'Independent League', huh?

Williams was in camp with the St. Paul Saints last year, but I can't find any stats or anything on him. It's entirely possible he was unemployed before the Cardinals came calling.

That video looks like it was shot in 1981, all the more disconcerting because that guy has my dad's EXACT haircut from that year. (Well, from that year and every other year since I was born, but even so.)

I'll root for every single insane pitching motion to make the majors. Is this guy just a fringe, or an actual prospect?

That video also features a left-handed catcher. I advocate him being signed as well, just because.

Joe Williams' first inning as a (Springfield) Cardinal:

Home run
Single
Stolen base
Walk
Sac (gratefully accepted)
Wild pitch (but one of the runners caught on the bases)
Single
HBP
Flyout

he's left handed so he's a prospect until he's 40+ years old.

I still refuse to believe that Marshall's lower body action/disbelief in kinetic chaining can possibly maximize velocity. You get so much less hip rotation and no torso separation. The arm action/pronation I can buy, the lower body crap is him just TRYING to be different IMO.
