Newsday: Clemens could return in ‘08 despite accusations

OH, MY GOODNESS GRAPE NUTS!

His superstar reputation badly damaged by baseball’s Mitchell Report, Roger Clemens doesn’t seem likely to turn into a recluse. Instead, two people familiar with Clemens’ thinking fully anticipate that he will pitch again in 2008.

“I really don’t think this would deter him from playing,” one person said, on the condition of anonymity. “He might think it would change the public opinion on him further. People would think, ‘Why would he come back and put up with all of this abuse if he did it?’”

...One person thought that the way Clemens left the mound would further motivate him to pitch again in 2008. Though the Yankees don’t have a great desire or need to bring back Clemens again, the Houston Astros—who employed Clemens from 2004 through 2006—could be interested.

Many friends of Clemens believe he wants to end his career where it began, with the Boston Red Sox. Were that to happen, Clemens would be a “teammate” of Mitchell, who is a Red Sox director. But the Red Sox have a surplus of starting pitchers.

I'm sure he would listen if the Oakland A's called

Jesus, Roger, STFU and STFD.

He should really start his own blog, then he can mouth off to his heart's content.

Clemens vs Pettitte to end the season for one or the other would actually not be a bad story line, with Clemens either in a Boston (hi, Kevin) or a Houston (yo, Lisa) uniform.

Oh well, we Yankee fans can dream, can't we? Right now we have so little....

So many teams need starting pitching, I could see Roger going another round.

NY Times: An excerpt from an article written by Brian McNamee, then a strength coach of the Yankees, in The New York Times on Oct. 1, 2000, in which he took issue with accusations of steroids use.
In interviews with George J. Mitchell this year, McNamee said he injected Roger Clemens with steroids in the 1998, 2000 and 2001 seasons.

Clemens either in a Boston (hi, Kevin)

At this point, I'd almost rather have Gagne. At least Gagne has comedic value along with his cheating.

Edit: i'd rather have CLEMENS over Gagne. I'll take Kevin pitching for the Red Sox over Clemens and Gagne 8 days out of 7

I don't think the Red Sox will need the 12 starts he'll be able to offer them next year.

And the over/under for 38 Pitches and RocketBlog getting into a tiff is ...

I don't think there'd be any tiff. Schilling credits Clemens with getting his career on track when Schilling was younger.
