The daily edition of Jerry Manuel humor about his team/bullpen (and it doesn’t even include his “Johan will be throwing nine innings, 170 pitches tomorrow” crack). Poor guy is going to have to go into rehab in the offseason, since he probably has to use something to get through the day.
But in the Mets dugout, Jerry Manuel didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “These guys, they’ll turn a laugher into a tearjerker,” he said.
...
“This was not fun,” Manuel acknowledged. “You think that’s fun, walking out to the mound every three minutes? People didn’t come here to see me do that. They came to see the players play.”
...
“I still got some guys left,” Manuel joked when it was pointed out to him that despite opening a six-run lead, he still needed to use seven pitchers in relief of Brandon Knight, who got through five shaky but mostly harmless innings.

1. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: September 18, 2008 at 05:50 AM (#2945975)Santana, Perez, and Pelfrey pitch like Seaver, Koosman, and Matlack did in 1973. They go deep, they pitch well, and you don't need much from the pen. If they blow one or two games per series, you can live with that.
It sure wouldn't hurt to get Maine into the mix. Even if he were only able to throw an inning every other day, that would actually be very helpful at this point if it were a quality, reliable inning. Hell, if he could give that, I'd want him on the post-season roster, given how they space out the games these days.
