But at least one player showed some fight ? literally ? in the Yankees’ lopsided 12-1 loss to the Angels at Angel Stadium in Anaheim last night. Catcher Ivan Rodriguez and Angels centerfielder Torii Hunter were ejected after getting into a fight in the bottom of the sixth inning. Things escalated between the pair after Hunter ran into Rodriguez hard at home plate.
By the time the game was over, Hunter and Rodriguez had hugged and made up. Hunter came over to the outside of the Yankees’ clubhouse during the game, and the two patched things up.
“We already talked, everything was OK,” Rodriguez said afterwards. “We apologized to each other. That’s professional for myself and for him. I’ve been 18 years in baseball, and I never fight. I compete and I compete hard, but I’m not a fighter.”
Hunter told the Los Angeles Times: “He pushed me pretty hard, like a fight in the ‘hood. The ghetto came out. I hate that. I want to apologize to the fans for my temper.”

I realize it's just an expression, but when was the last time that Torii Hunter lived in anything that could realistically be described as a ghetto?

I think those boxes are the character you get when there's a problem translating between different font sets.
Don't be immature. If it's good between the two of them, it should be good between all of us. Note also that it was Hunter who came to the Yankee clubhouse first, per this report. Knocking him down (or the Angels knocking down I-Rod) would be completely out of line.

If I hadn't already written this season off, I'd be really frustrated the way the Yankees have found new and inventive ways to lose to that team.
In the US, wasn't the basis for the NHL's marketing strategy for years something along the lines of "Come watch people on skates punch each other"? And hasn't US interest in the game of hockey declined since the NHL started cracking down on fights?
Hell, what about UFC, for which the entire basis is "Come see a fight", or pro wrestling, for which the entire basis is "Come see a fake fight".
Well, he grew up in Pine Bluff, Ark. I lived there during most of 2nd grade, & I don't recall it being particularly ghettoistic, though as a white kid I might not've been exposed to the place's, y'know, mean streets. Torii didn't come along for another 16 years ... but still.
If PB has a ghetto, it's a pretty small one. And/or it's the UAPB campus.

But just think of all the street cred you've gained. You were so tough as a kid, you didn't even realize that you grew up in a ghetto.
It wasn't a ghetto until the talking mongoose ruined the local economy.

Hunter had a busy night with silliness last night. After getting called out on a groundout to third (blown call, even A-Rod looked surprised), he ran right up to the umpire and got in his face. It seemed from behind him that he was giving the ump an earful, but when they got a reverse angle on it he appeared to be joking around with the ump, big smile on his face. I love Torii Hunter.
The funny thing about the game last night was that the Angels don't even seem to care what happens at this point. They're playing hard, but they don't dispute any calls and they seem absurdly loose in the field. Maybe it was just the contrast to the Yankees, who are completely discombobulated.
I don't have a couch.
If the Yankees feel like signing me, I have no problem fighting for them. Not sure if you want me to go all the way to California as a private citizen to engage Hunter to prove my toughness; that seems slightly psychotic.
