Sorry to see the Pirates fading, they've been a great story.

By the way, remember that article posted here about how the Dotel for McDonald trade was one of the dumbest (from the Dodgers' perspective) ever because, y'know, it was just a reliever and McDonald had turned the corner and was dominating? Unfortunately, since mid-June he's had a 6.06 ERA and an 833 OPS against. Still an average starter on the season -- which is still more valuable than a bit of Dotel a few years ago but is also not something to get very worked up about.

Man, I want the Pirates to get in. That town deserves it!

My apologies to Pirates fans, but if the team isn't going to make the playoffs, I don't want to see that sub-.500 streak end just yet.

While I'm a Cardinals fan, I'm having a very hard time pulling against the Pirates. Not surprised they're fading, though.

Bless you, Medlen.

This is not wildly interesting, but I just noticed that in each of his first three major-league starts, the Padres' Andrew Werner has gone exactly 6 innings, given up 1 HR, and allowed 2 runs. After giving up 4 hits in each of his first two starts, he gave up 5 hits tonight (maybe the official scorer will change one to an error later).

If he retired right now he might be the most consistent starter in MLB history (minimum 18 IP)!
