The Nats are going to have some say into who plays in the wild-card game, as they play all the contenders (counting Milwaukee) except Pittsburgh. And don't expect them to take it easy, as they're only 2 1/2 games up on Cincinnati for NL home-field advantage.

Right now, that stretch where the Brewers' bullpen rivaled the Mets' for pure ineptitude may come back to haunt them. (Had they been scheduled to face the Mets at that time, it likely would have been the baseball equivalent of giveaway checkers.)

it was understood at the time that the team's season was being undermined by the bullpen. ron's failing (and melvin has to be lumped in there as well) was to not act quicker and more decisively. ron took a very passive approach thinking it would get better and instead the team blew game after game for a 2 month stretch.

now to ron's credit the team has continued to play hard. but when 2012 is reviewed by management i would hope that leadership (in the dugout and front office) point the finger at themselves first.
