MLB.com: Nady backs Lincecum as Giants top Cubs

A new month began on Saturday, and with it, perhaps another fresh start for Lincecum. This time, he strengthened San Francisco’s grip on first place in the West by working 6 1/3 effective innings to give the Giants a 5-2 triumph over the Cubs.

MLB.com: Beckett-led Dodgers talk the talk in beating D-backs

With home runs from Andre Ethier and Hanley Ramirez and a clutch start from Josh Beckett in his home debut, the Dodgers edged the Diamondbacks, 2-1, a critical win for a club scuffling to find itself and stay alive in the pennant race.

Dodgers and Giants only have 3 games between them left, and they're in SF. If the Dodgers want a playoff berth, it'll have to come from the WC and not the NL West.

The second sentence may be true but the first is not. There are six Dodgers-Giants games left, including a season-ending series in L.A.

LA also has a three-game series in Washington in mid-September, and this time, the Nationals won't have Henry Rodriguez to make things interesting.

The DBacks are out of this race of course...but it's interesting to note that they had an 8 game winning streak against the dodgers before last night, including 6 straight in LA.

Meanwhile the DBacks lost 6 straight at home to the Padres in the last couple months, getting swept in 3 game series twice. So what did they do right after getting swept by SD and Cincy this last home stand ? Go into LA and beat Kershaw.

Go figure.

The giants dodgers series this year have been insane. 3 straight ROAD sweeps -- two of them with the sweeping team starting 3 games out and ending with a division lead tie. In the first the Dodgers scored 0, in the second the Giants scored 1
