MLB.com: Lowe falters, Braves lose Wild Card ground

[Derek] Lowe experienced his shortest outing of the season and allowed the first of the two homers David Wright hit while helping the Mets hand the Braves an ugly 11-2 loss on an unseasonably chilly night at Turner Field.

The Giants have won 6 in a row. They are 5 back of Atlanta, and 6 back of AZ, who have lost 2 in a row and 3 of 5. The Giants still have 3 games H2H with AZ

Not quite dead yet, are they ?

St. Louis is now closer in the standings to Atlanta than Tampa Bay is to Boston.

As to #1, I never think the Giants is dead until Charlie Dressen says so.

Also, Tyler Greene missed an HR by inches in his first PA since September 5th, when the STL GM (John Mozeliak) said "I would like to see Tyler Greene get more of an opportunity to play, just so we can have a better idea for planning 2012". (And his 3rd PA since June 17th, despite hitting .323/.422/.579 in 303 PA's as a plus defensive SS at AAA).

Little bit of an interesting palace revolt going on? Or maybe TLR just forgot Greene was on his team, for, like, 2 weeks? That kind of thing seems to be happening a lot these days.

Some notes on the schedule ...

- Braves have one day off remaining, Cards have none. Cards will end the season having played 13 games in 13 days.
- Cards have 12 games left, six on the road and three against winning teams (the final three games vs. PHI).
- Braves have 11 games left, six on the road and three against winning teams. Of course, those three are against the Phillies in the final series of the regular season. The Phillies will be on autopilot by then.

There's hope for STL but not much.

The Cards pitching has been lights out of late

That and Albert is playing angry and that is good for the Cards

Causing Atlanta pain would be nice.

The Braves' heralded prospects didn't have a particularly good showing in relief last night. Still, it couldn't hurt to give them starts over Derek Lowe.

i mentioned this in the motte thread. adron chambers had a great at bat in the 11th. he was as cool as the other side of the pillow. pretty good for a rookie.

Even if the Braves hold on, an NLDS rotation of Hudson/Lowe/Beachy is by far the worst of any of the teams in the playoffs. They're getting smoked out of the playoffs quickly.

Maybe "by far" overstates it depending on how you feel about Arizona's SP

B-ref lists the Braves best player by WAR as Jonny Venters, a middle reliever. That's a little weird for a good team.

What a load of BS. Do you expect anyone to believe you actually wear pants?

Don't expect Lowe to get any postseason starts. It'll be Hanson if he's healthy or else Minor or Delgado.

Would the Braves use only a three-man rotation? They'd be testing either someone who just returned from injury or a young pitcher.

Also, for goodness' sake, I hope that Lowe would not make a postseason roster, except maybe as a mop-up man.

The World Champion 1996 Yankees best player (by far), by WAR, was a middle reliever named Mariano Rivera.

edit: OK, check that. I missed Pettitte, who was .3 better than Rivera, who in turn was 1.8 better than 3rd place.

Teheran is below Vizcaino and Delgado on the depth chart at this point, for the record.

This is an exciting race for the bestest loser in the whole league.
