Go Cubs! lets hope hill has an off night and the cubs bomb him early.

Heyward in for schwarber, otherwise Cubs have same lineup as yesterday.

I really don't get Maddon's hesitation to start Happ. He's playing him late innings so he's not hurt. Is he just reluctant to start a rookie? That seems very un-Maddon-like given the teams he's managed.

OK, I have something very important to tell all of you.

You know how we all want to blow up those cars and those drivers in the SWEET CAROLINE commercial, or at least hope they crash or drive into a concrete barrier at 70 MPH?

The new GEICO triangle solo commercial manages to be worse, by far, and let me tell you why.

THERE IS NO ############# TRIANGLE IN THE BACH BRANDENBURG CONCERTO #3. OR ANYWHERE EVEN IN THAT GODDAMNED CENTURY, GODDAMMIT. IT MAKES NO SENSE.

OK, thanks. I mean, seriously.

I hope someday we discover a primate works in advertising and is trolling Lassus.

Puig's glove is kind of an awesome color.

So weird to see bald old Jon Lester in the dugout there. I still remember when he was fresh off cancer treatment, looked about 12 years old, and showed up in the playoffs throwing flames.

Almora!

Happy Times !

Ball really appears to be carrying, but that still was smoked. Great play.

Another great play, but...

7 pitch inning for lester, he needs more of those tonight.

Fun play.

So, if the Dodgers end up in a World Series game on October 31st, I can go to the game. But my friend, a VP at MLB, doesn't get free a single free ticket - they have to pay! This is not a small job, either, it's a money gig. Cheap #############. I mean, I guess I can get get a ticket no matter what, so that's special, but you would have thought they got a free one. I am cheap, yes. I'll find out the cost tomorrow.
   15. Infinite Yost (Voxter) Posted: October 15, 2017 at 08:00 PM (#5554433)
Rich Hill is my candidate for the ballplayer who most looks like your friend's dad who used to be kind of athletic but is definitely out of shape now.
   16. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 15, 2017 at 08:01 PM (#5554434)
I think that heyward groundout was the first time it looked like a cub recognized the difference between the curve and fastball. But since he sucks, that's all heyward could do with hitting it "hard".

Yep. And he's always looked that way.

A friend of mine works food service at one of the restaurants at Disney World. Management told (not asked) him he'd need stay and work an extra three hours, changing his shift from a 10 hour one to a 13 hour one. I asked him if they at least fed him. Not only do they not give them a meal for a long shift, but they will throw away food before letting the employees have it. If he wants to purchase a meal there, he has to pay the same price as the tourists.
   19. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: October 15, 2017 at 08:03 PM (#5554436)
You moronic Heyward haters... you deserve to lose 0:4 and Heyward will hit 98 homeruns next season for the Giants.
Go back to Loserdom, Cubs !

Because I usually work nights, that was the first time I saw the Lobaton pickoff.

There's got to be a lobotomy joke in there.

Where on earth are the Cubs fans? Odd chatter.
   23. Nero Wolfe, Indeed Posted: October 15, 2017 at 08:15 PM (#5554441)
I was thinking the same thing. I'm rooting for the Cubs, but not particularly a Cub fan.
   24. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: October 15, 2017 at 08:15 PM (#5554442)
Some guy with a Billy Goat invited all Cubs fans to his bar... they all went there I guess.

Best Baez ab in weeks. Of course, should have been a k but still would have been great.

I know you have a lot of room where the pews used to be, but don't forget to take out the garbage, too!
   32. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 15, 2017 at 08:25 PM (#5554450)
Lester probably is the Cubs best bunting pitcher.

Baez has to be careful with that popup slide coming off the bag. He's been replayed out on that this year.
   35. Nero Wolfe, Indeed Posted: October 15, 2017 at 08:26 PM (#5554455)
Is Baez wearing an oven mitt?

Baez on third against the Dodgers in the NLCS. What could happen?
   37. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 15, 2017 at 08:27 PM (#5554457)
This zone is not consistent, which is all I ask for from umps these days.

Crap.

I'm surprised more guys don't. Javy has gotten hurt a few times on head first sliders. Also it's bigger than your hand so maybe helpful in those diving slides.
   40. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 15, 2017 at 08:30 PM (#5554460)
Bryant is utter #### right now. Expanding the zone and behind almost everything.

Bryant has been terrible. And so has tonight's home plate ump.

If that glove become common equipment, I guess there is a size restriction on them. If not, someone is going to be wearing one that looks like a jai-alai cesta.

He'll homer tonight.

It's a shame there's so little downtime in a baseball broadcast that they have no choice but to conduct interviews while batters are up.
   46. Walt Davis Posted: October 15, 2017 at 08:39 PM (#5554467)
Heck of a play by Almora ... until the throw at least.

The three ball walk never works.

   51. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 15, 2017 at 08:44 PM (#5554476)
The Cubs' at-bats are uninteresting enough that I find myself trying to focus on that young blonde behind home plate and determine if her date is your classic "He's meek and 10-15 years older, but has money" dude.
   52. Quaker Posted: October 15, 2017 at 08:49 PM (#5554478)

Of course, I'm getting about three minutes to do so.

Bold prediction: If the Cubs want to win this series, Bryant and Rizzo will probably need to get some hits again.
   54. Walt Davis Posted: October 15, 2017 at 08:54 PM (#5554481)

   58. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 15, 2017 at 08:59 PM (#5554489)
Way way too many walks for Cubs pitchers this inning (and way too few for the hitters).

Analysis!

My wife has voted: does not like players who lick their bats.
   60. Infinite Yost (Voxter) Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:01 PM (#5554492)
Lester has thrown a lot of pitches for a dude who hasn't given up a run yet.
   61. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:01 PM (#5554493)
Flap your tongue at that.
   62. Infinite Yost (Voxter) Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:02 PM (#5554494)
I swear to God that Puig steals that base three years ago. But that might be an illusion of his declining bat.
   63. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:02 PM (#5554495)
Pretty.
   64. Andere Richtingen Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:02 PM (#5554496)
Lester is doing quite well with absolutely no fastball to speak of.
   65. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:02 PM (#5554497)
Not sure I run there. Lester isn't sharp and the sooner you can get into that Cubs pen, the sooner you can build the insurmountable three-run lead.
   66. Walt Davis Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:03 PM (#5554498)
76 pitches through 4, we'll be lucky if Lester makes a full 6 innings.

People, and by that I mostly mean announcers, still have no idea that just because Lester doesn't throw to first means he's easy to steal on. He isn't.
   72. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:08 PM (#5554505)
Serious question: There's no way the Cubs stick with Heyward for another six years, is there?
   73. Andere Richtingen Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:09 PM (#5554506)
And what exactly is the alternative?
   74. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:10 PM (#5554507)
But more pressing: Young attractive blonde has been MIA for an inning and a half. Perhaps a more age-appropriate man slid into her DM's.

I suspect her date would not understand the expression, either. :D

Didn't rich hill have trouble pitching from the stretch with the cubs? I seem to remember the year he struggled with the Cubs, he started doing stuff really weird.

   87. Andere Richtingen Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:18 PM (#5554520)
Lester is nibbling because THAT was the best he can do with a fastball in the strike zone.
   88. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:18 PM (#5554521)
The loss of Seager isn't really hamstringing the Dodgers yet.
   89. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:19 PM (#5554522)
Lester will be lucky if he can finish this inning. The stuff is not sharp.

Culberson needs to pay rent at second
   91. Voodoo Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:21 PM (#5554524)
Charlie Culberson sounds like the name of a 19th century player.
   92. PreservedFish Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:24 PM (#5554525)
It is interesting how a surname can have an old-fashioned feel.
   93. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:27 PM (#5554526)
I mean, of course one run wasn't going to win this, but that's a pretty crappy sequence.

Just not enough. That last appearance in the nlds took too much out of him.
   98. Andere Richtingen Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:31 PM (#5554531)
That was a gutsy performance by Lester. He had nothing.
   99. Voodoo Posted: October 15, 2017 at 09:32 PM (#5554532)
Well they were going to have to go back to Edwards in a tight spot at some point, but I'll be damned if he doesn't walk the first guy (maybe first two) guys he faces.
