No guarantees for Bard this season | Sports - Red Sox | providencejournal.com | The Providence Journal

“It wasn’t too long ago that this might’ve been the best eighth-inning reliever in baseball,” Farrell said of Bard on the day he was hired as Red Sox manager. “He’s not injured. That gives you every reason to believe that he might regain that performance ability.”

Is it fair to say that the organization, and most of the fan base, has absolutely no expectations for Bard in 2013? That the team is being constructed with the assumption that Bard will play no meaningful role in 2013?

The bullpen may be the strongest part of the roster entering Spring Training...and that assumes Bard brings nothing to the table.
