No one was more excited about this Paul Goldschmidt home run than Senator John McCain

More Goldschmidt! Less Steveschmidt!

Former Republican presidential candidate and current senior Senator from Arizona John McCain III spent his Saturday night watching the Arizona Diamondbacks out-slug the Dodgers in Phoenix, despite Yasiel Puig bat-flipping his way to a 16-game hitting streak.

The game was less than typical, as one fan caught two home runs while the D-backs pulled out an 18-7 victory on the back of two Paul Goldschmidt homers. Of the Paul Goldschmidt homers, the first is clearly the best because it served as a catalyst for this response from Senator McCain:

...Finally, just to make sure we’re all clear on this, here is Senator McCain’s reaction to Paul Goldschmidt’s first home run on Saturday:

He looks like he was having a good time. Baseball is fun!

Give credit to the fan who caught the Goldschmidt home run. Unlike that dopey Marlins fan in Port St. Lucie, this dad knows what he's doing.

This kid at the Rangers game last night was pretty "on the ball" too. Though I'm sure the woman would prefer a different identifier than "Older Woman" in the headline.

He probably will never be confused with these Ranger fans.

That kid's got a lot to learn about gift baskets.

I found this endearing, but then I remembered that he only is making that specific gesture because his arms don't work from being tortured as a POW. And now I am sad.

Bizarre, but there's another layer of narrative to that Ranger-game kid. He catches a baseball from Luis Rivera and then hands the young woman a different baseball.

One explanation might be that he'd gotten a ball earlier and the women had teased him asking for it, and he'd said "wait'll I get another one, then you can have it."

I'll invite more interesting stories, though.

He has 2 baseballs, he gives the woman half of his baseballs.

Clearly kid is practicing for their future divorce.

Standard bleacher regular (do such things exist anymore) practice. HR gets hit during the game, beat-up baseball from some little league game (or at best batting practice) is the one that gets tossed back.
