HOW WILL THE ANGELS WIN TODAY?!
   2. mathesond Posted: May 24, 2018 at 12:17 PM (#5678933)
Find out on Facebook!
   3. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: May 24, 2018 at 01:41 PM (#5678994)
Facebook Guy: Will there be a game where Shohei Ohtani pitches and hits?
Mike Scioscia: Yes.

The Angels don't play in an NL park until they face the Dodgers in the middle of July. I assume that'll be when.

In other news, Ohtani has a double, walk, and a run scored today.
   4. PreservedFish Posted: May 24, 2018 at 01:53 PM (#5679007)
Is Ohtani the awesomest thing in baseball history? I say yes.
   5. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: May 24, 2018 at 02:21 PM (#5679032)
Edit: Nevermind.
   6. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: May 24, 2018 at 03:31 PM (#5679103)
Ohtani legs out a double in the 9th, scores on a Simmons single. Two doubles, two walks, two runs scored. .319/.385/.606 for the season.
   7. PepTech, the Legendary Posted: May 24, 2018 at 05:30 PM (#5679173)
Oh, look, Felix Hernandez gives up four runs in the first, then mows down 12 out of 13. We've never seen THAT before... /sarcasm

He's hardly the only pitcher to constantly do this - your best chance against them is the first, and then they turn into machines. What's the current wisdom on why this is?

EDIT: 15 of 16. Should have had Sergio Romo start.
   8. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: May 24, 2018 at 05:32 PM (#5679174)
This is a college baseball play, but oof, this is awful. There were 2 outs, why was he throwing to home?!?!?
   9. jacksone (AKA It's OK...) Posted: May 24, 2018 at 05:57 PM (#5679184)
#8 would it have made a difference kid he threw to 1st? The guy on third wasn't close to the plate, the pitcher wasn't rushed, he just made a terrible throw.
   10. PepTech, the Legendary Posted: May 24, 2018 at 06:01 PM (#5679188)
Well, 1B is a force, the guy at third didn't have to run. Granted, if the pitcher had thrown it over the first baseman's head, the result would have been the same.
   11. jacksone (AKA It's OK...) Posted: May 24, 2018 at 06:41 PM (#5679203)
Ah, thought the bases were loaded...
   12. Jay Seaver Posted: May 24, 2018 at 07:11 PM (#5679216)
Conspiracy theory: Nunez pulls up lame on some play or other in about the sixth inning so the Red Sox have cover to put him on the DL and kick roster decisions a week and a half down the road.
   13. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 07:53 PM (#5679229)
Where are you Andy?

The Red Sox are losing...boo.. Plenty of time for some Mookie magic though assuming Porcello doesn't continue to soil the bed and let this thing get out of hand
   14. Jay Seaver Posted: May 24, 2018 at 07:54 PM (#5679230)
Just when you start to trust Rick Porcello, he loads the bases 17 times in the first two innings.
   15. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 08:04 PM (#5679236)
OK, bed will and truly shat now...bummer I like it when the Red Sox win games, lots of games.
   16. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 08:25 PM (#5679248)
Just when you start to trust Rick Porcello

Next thing you'll tell me is that you trust both Joe Kelly and Mitch Moreland to continue to be good!

The season is a long and ambling road, give it time, they will all disappoint us in the end.
   17. Jay Seaver Posted: May 24, 2018 at 08:32 PM (#5679252)
You can usually at least trust Porcello not to walk people but more-than-occasionally give up the home run. It's weird to see him undone like this.
   18. The Yankee Clapper Posted: May 24, 2018 at 08:50 PM (#5679256)
I see Boston is planning on activating Pedroia tomorrow. Only 1-for-14 in 5 AAA rehab games, but apparently he feels OK, and that's good enough. I'd think it might take a few more games to scrape off the rust, and the Red Sox can afford to be cautious, but they must like what they saw.
   19. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 09:03 PM (#5679259)
Mookie is on! let the comeback begin!
   20. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 09:14 PM (#5679263)

Well Nunez is not a MLB quality 2B for a team with playoff aspirations, I think just about any version of a reasonably healthy Pedroia will be an improvement.
   21. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 09:19 PM (#5679267)
Down 7-0, I'm calling it, this one is over.

Even I can't see a win from here and I'm usually pretty positive about these things.
   22. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 09:19 PM (#5679268)
oops, only still 6-0..
   23. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 09:30 PM (#5679276)
a run! A run, a run, my kingdom for a run!

Down only 6-1 now. Let the miracle begin. Nunez doubles and scores just to mock my statement above regarding his 2B capabilities.
   24. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 09:41 PM (#5679283)
JBJ makes first out top of 8th. He's on a Calhounesque tear with the wood right now...
   25. Jay Seaver Posted: May 24, 2018 at 09:43 PM (#5679287)
Not sure I get this moving Hanley up in the order while he's not hitting thing.
   26. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 09:44 PM (#5679288)
Mookie grounds out. NOW there is no hope. At all.

NY creeps closer to Boston in standings by sitting idle...

Of course none of this will matter if Houston continues to give up only 2 runs a game.
   27. salvomania Posted: May 24, 2018 at 09:44 PM (#5679289)
Alex Reyes so far tonight in his final AAA rehab start: 6 innings, 1 hit, 1 bb, zero runs, 12 K's.

So far, in his rehab, that's: 22 innings, 7 hits, 7 walks, 0 runs, 43 K's.

He makes his 2018b MLB debut next week.
   28. Lassus Posted: May 24, 2018 at 09:52 PM (#5679293)
OK, this is odd.
   29. Jay Seaver Posted: May 24, 2018 at 09:58 PM (#5679299)
Okay, just four more runs needed before two more outs for extras. Totally doable.
   30. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 09:59 PM (#5679301)
And now Moreland mocks me with a homer! Down 6-2
   31. Howie Menckel Posted: May 24, 2018 at 09:59 PM (#5679302)
Mets OF Brandon Nimmo now has a 1.075 OPS in 84 AB.
ex-1st round pick is an OBP machine who has two doubles and a triple tonight
   32. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 10:00 PM (#5679303)
Xander k's and down to Nunez who can make me look even more foolish
   33. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 10:02 PM (#5679304)
Nunez is on, Devers needs to NOT get out.

Andy's head starting to hurt.
   34. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 10:02 PM (#5679305)
Nunez "swipes" 2nd, no one cares
   35. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 10:06 PM (#5679311)
Devers doubles, Nunez scores.

mildly interesting now.
   36. Jay Seaver Posted: May 24, 2018 at 10:06 PM (#5679312)
Soooo, who hits for Leon and/or Bradley here?
   37. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 10:07 PM (#5679314)
Up to the incomparable Sandy Leon to keep the fires burning....
   38. Jay Seaver Posted: May 24, 2018 at 10:08 PM (#5679315)
No, seriously, Cora, you're going to call Leon back and sent Holt or Benintendi up there, right?
   39. Jay Seaver Posted: May 24, 2018 at 10:08 PM (#5679317)
I mean, you've got spare catchers until tomorrow.
   40. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 10:09 PM (#5679318)
Eh, that's it. Sandy couldn't rise to the occasion.

Sort of funnish fight back. Porcello made it too tough to start.
   41. Jay Seaver Posted: May 24, 2018 at 10:10 PM (#5679320)
Apparently not.
   42. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: May 24, 2018 at 10:10 PM (#5679323)
Andy's head starting to hurt.

Tell me about it. When I began watching a movie it was 6 to 0, and now I come up to see it all slipping away.

EDIT: Well, a win's a win. About time someone stopped the Red Sox juggernaut.

Porcello's last 4 Game Scores: 32, 39, 54, and 26 tonight. That's an average of 38, and never mind what Sabathia's is.
   43. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2018 at 10:10 PM (#5679324)
Andy can sleep well because, in fact, the Red Sox do lose...occasionally.

Shame too, just when Price has got his sh*t together, now Rick has become the bedsh*tter.

Pitching counts though and I think the Sox pitching going forward is more consistent then the Yankees.

Houston however is an entirely different matter. They are insane right now.

NY line up still scary good; water still wet.

Tough weekend series coming up for the Yanks against the Angels, while the Red Sox get to feast on their lowly NL cousins.

Yeah, but I'm still recovering from last night. When was the last time a team blew a 4 run lead and a 5 run lead in the course of only 3 innings?
   47. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: May 24, 2018 at 10:25 PM (#5679334)
Houston however is an entirely different matter. They are insane right now.

1906 Cubs (116-36) team ERA+: 151

2018 Astros team ERA+: 163

If they got any more insane than that, they'd be kidnapped when they got to Yankee Stadium next week and shipped off to Bellevue.

I would normally agree with respect to the NL lowly cousins reference but the Sox are playing the Braves. And the Braves really good.

Hopefully their youngsters will be awed by their first journey to the hallowed grounds that are Fenway and they'll be a little off their game.
   49. Howie Menckel Posted: May 24, 2018 at 10:54 PM (#5679353)
more on Mets OF Nimmo: for those who long for more players who seem to spend every waking moment telling themselves, "holy crap, I get paid to play in MLB!" - he's your guy.

Nimmo is from Wyoming, and has this slightly goofy but very endearing enthusiasm about him. always smiling and hustling, smart player, teammates love him. could climb to 4th all-time in Wyoming-born AB by end of season - trailing Mike Lansing, Mike Devereaux, and John Buck by thousands, though.

So were the Angels, until the Red Sox invaded Anaheim and left no survivors.
