Norichika Aoki is the least photogenic baseball player ever

The history of Japanese baseball dates back to the mid-1800s, when an American professor introduced it. In the 150 years since, Japanese baseball and North American baseball have been able to travel down different evolutionary trees. It’s like baseball is a finch, and each country is a different island in the Galapagos. Over the last century, batters in Japan were free to develop a wholly different approach.

That’s what makes these pictures fascinating; we’re not used to the follow-throughs here. We’re not used to a player getting out of the way when he starts with a closed stance and slashes at the ball. We’re looking at something that works, and we’re looking at something that’s completely different:

Doesn't this set of photos make him the MOST photogenic baseball player ever?

Only if you think that felines are photogenic.

Aoki sometimes looks like a skittish cat.

I noticed this in Aoki's first year with the Brewers when I was sitting in the 3rd deck behind home plate at Target Field and taking pictures of the batters. I have a whole string of ones of Aoki falling over in the batter's box.

My final answer is still Otis Nixon, thanks.

Apparently the author never saw Don Mossi.

He was hit in the nuts on Friday night by a fly ball, and today he fell down twice. He is the most awkward player I have ever seen and I'm surprised he doesn't kill himself playing baseball. He's like a flailing Muppet in a Royals jersey.

Don Mossi, Sid Bream, and Joe Torre say hi.

I've been showing this link to my friends, even those who don't like or follow baseball, for the humour value. They've loved it. These pictures are great.

I think the headline doesn't really match the story, which pretty much has a "Norichika Aoki is awesome" tone.

Wow, I laughed so hard I had tears. This really hit the spot for whatever reason. New favorite player.

Nori falling down on the basepaths today. I swear someone is offering him money based on how many baseball blooper reels he can make it into this year.
