They are absolutely not trying. TFA misses this; I checked. Some talk of the team wanting and needing a new park. But not an acknowledgement that they have ceased trying until they get it.

They chose short-term trading profits over building a healthy core business and now they are screaming for a bailout? No wonder Moneyball is popular on Wall Street.

This year's edition is more fun than recent A's teams, I agree with that.

The players are definitely trying, but the management isn't. It doesn't help perceptions of the team with players in MLB (and MiLB) when they do things like DFA a guy a day before his wife is due to give birth.
