N.Y. Post: Costello: Salt In The Wound

Of all the knipfing nerve! The Braves are laughing at Kevin James…and the Mets.

I had an interesting perspective for the end of the Mets-Cubs game tonight and thought Mets fans might find it interesting.

I watched the end of the game in the Braves’ clubhouse in Philadelphia.

I’m here covering the Phillies side of the NL East chase but went over to the Atlanta clubhouse to talk to Chipper Jones about his home run.

When I got over there it was the top of the 10th and many of the Braves were dressed in their suits sitting around a big-screen TV watching the game. Several players debated who had worse fans - the Phillies or the Mets - as they debated who they’d like to see make the playoffs.

As Derrek Lee singled in the go-ahead run the Braves exploded, cheering on the Cubs. It happened again when Aramis Ramirez homered and a few members of the team and traveling party began singing “Meet the Mets.” Others mocked the Kevin James video shown at Shea Stadium where he screams “Let’s Go Mets.”

The last two games notwithstanding, they have also laid down to the Phillies this year.

Coincidence?

Sports team delights in bitter division rival's misfortune. Somebody call "60 Minutes."

I gave it my all last night. I feel like I left part of my soul @ Shea. This morning is brutal.

Oh yeah, at least the Mets and Phillies HAVE fans!!!

That's a rivalry, friends.

This is like the Harlem Globetrotters having a deep hatred for the Washington Generals. I'm not really sure what the Mets have done to the Braves other than lose to them for 15 years.

Why do you think they win all the time?! With their angry, in-your-face, showboating moves...

Maybe they find Jose Reyes more annoying than Jimmie Rollins. /ducking

I agree. As I've said before, any anti-Met feelings on my part are dwarfed by my lingering resentment about 1993. To hell with the Phillies. I'd only root for them against the Marlins.

They were using a freaking ladder!

I am so sick of Shea. I wish they would just tear down the building. What's that? Oh they are? Good.

yup....since these last two games don't matter, that's why the braves tried to win them, unlike the other 17.

Glad to see this. If they were uninterested in watching or didn't care who won people would be slammming the players of today for not caring about rivalries like the good old days.
