NY POST: DEREK’S FLAT FALL (RR)

The morning rags are actually Jeter a little bit of blame…

Though the Yankees were an offensive mess in last season’s ALDS loss to the Tigers, Jeter hit .500 with a homer. A year earlier he hit .333 in the Yankees’ ALDS defeat to the Angels. The last time he had failed to hit at least .200 in a postseason series was the 2001 World Series, when he batted .148 against the Diamondbacks. But even then, he made his presence felt with a home run that gave the Yankees a Game 4 victory.

There was no such heroic moment for Jeter in this series. He was an October mess, as were the Yankees.

“Last year was frustrating, the year before that was frustrating,” Jeter said. “Every year when you lose is frustrating.”

Jeter (.176 in ALDS) not exactly Captain Clutch

ARod must have given him a bad scouting report on the Indians pitchers.

This is like Christams morning. Especially with the names that are floating around to repace Torre and the buzz that he wanted Moose to start but was overruled. This is great, if only the stupid Mets didn't choke I would say this was the perfect end to a baseball season. Damn Mets.

So I'm guessing Jeter gets dealt this winter?

Jeter should opt out of his contract so he doesn't have to put with this constant persecution by the NY press. Ever since Jeter came into the league, the NYC papers have been calling him a bust-in-the-making, a choker, a lead glove statue, a cancer in the clubhouse and the most overrated captain in the storied Yankees history. Despite all that incessant ridicule and poison by every single pen man in the city, Jeter has persevered. But no more. Time to turn his back on this wretched team and go to a franchise that will truly appreciate him, like the Tampa Bay Rays.

"A little payback, <strike>from</strike> for Jeter."

Blind squirrel. Nut.

It was quite obvious to this observer that having an easy out such as AROD two spots behind Jeter allowed the pitchers to throw nothing but unhittable pitches to Derek. But, knowing that the inning was effectively over if AROD came up, Jeter did what he had to do and hit those pitches anyway. And by ending the inning right there and then, he did was true leaders do, he took the potential heat off the much maligned third baseman.

By Cashman? Boy, this just doesn't add up to me.

I'd think higher up the food chain.

Can I have a fist pump? Guys?

One fist pump for Saenz.

Who else wants a fist pump?

You will all perish in flames for your Fist-Pumpiness and your sarcastic denial of The Captain's Veteran Clutchiness.

It could be God Himself, in a Rockies jersey, with a goatee, that smotes your irreverence.

I'd think higher up the food chain.

I really can't believe someone in Tampa told Joe Torre A) his job was on the line, and B) he has to go with Wang on short rest. If a guy is fighting for his job, you have to let him do things his way. Even dumass executive types know that.
