Soon after Carlos Delgado strolled into the Mets’ clubhouse on Friday, he said Billy Wagner “intercepted” him. Wagner, who a day earlier complained about some teammates’ accountability, began his damage control by talking to Delgado, then to reporters. It was the beginning of the Mets’ attempt to mitigate a potentially explosive situation.
The Mets held a 45-minute team meeting in which Manager Willie Randolph, Wagner, Delgado and other players discussed avoiding distractions and focusing on baseball. Randolph later said that he was not worried about speculation regarding his job status.
...
“I’m very supportive and continue to be supportive of Willie Randolph,” Minaya said. “I think we all feel we should be playing better.”
...
[Wagner] later elaborated on [his remarks] during a radio interview, but he said the message was for reporters, not for Delgado or anyone else.
...
During his conversation with Delgado, Wagner said, he apologized. Wagner said he wanted to apologize because Delgado’s name was publicized, even though Wagner reiterated that he never mentioned him by name. “He said he didn’t mean to single me out,” Delgado said. “I don’t know how I got singled out.”
Delgado… said “a personal emergency” prevented him from being interviewed after the game. Although Delgado can be an eloquent and thoughtful team spokesman, he has not often filled that role since joining the Mets for the 2006 season.
Uh-oh, was that the dreaded “vote of confidence” from Minaya?

Ummmm ... is that a statement of speculation on your part, Kevin, or are you, like, ordering the guy not to read past your posts?
Becaus if you are, that's pretty ... well, presumptuous, I guess, but also in a way actually sort of awesome.
