Gary Carter…looking for more camera time than Bob Stephenson! (as if that’s even possible)
Willie Randolph got a vote of confidence Friday from General Manager Omar Minaya, but that did not stop the sharks from circling.
On “The Mike & Murray Show” on Sirius Satellite Radio, the former Met Gary Carter campaigned to replace Randolph. Carter, a Hall of Famer, is the manager of the Orange County Flyers of the independent Golden Baseball League.
According to a transcript of the program, Carter said that when he heard of Randolph’s troubles, he “immediately” called Jay Horwitz, the Mets’ vice president for media relations, and asked if he should call the team’s principal owner, Fred Wilpon. “I just want them to know of my availability.” Carter said. “I’m only a phone call away. I could be in New York tomorrow.”

1. GutsAnd if someone guns down Obama, Hillary is ready. It's great to live in an America with choices!
Carter: Here's one -- nine pence.
Randolph: I'm not dead!
Carter: Well, he will be soon, he's very ill.
Randolph: I'm getting better!
Carter: No, you're not -- you'll be stone dead in a moment.
Can I get some fanboy love for Ollie P., please? 1.547 WHIP. Averaging 5 1/3 IP per start and 18.25 pitches per inning. 43% of pitches for balls. 37/43 BB/K in 53 IP. Last 9 starts, 47.2 IP, 32 R, 36 BB, 35 K.
Dude can fill out a boxscore. He's like the Chris Paul of MLB.
"Slimy" seems more appropriate. "Clueless" and "desperate" are in the running too.
Rookie ball, I think.
2005 Gulf Coast Mets rookie: 37-16 .698
2006 St. Lucie Mets A+: 77-62 .554, league champions
2007 Orange County Flyers Independent: 1-0
So's your mom.
Tops this retard.
Harv, you only say that because you're so tolerant of incompetence.
(He did say that he had made a mistake by turning down the offer to manage Binghamton. He said that he hadn't wanted a guarantee of the major league job, he just wanted assurance that he would be considered. That didn't pass my smell test -- is any minor league manager ever specifically told, "you have zero chance to be promoted?" He said that he would take that job if it were offered now. I guess that shows humility, but now that he's already out, I'm not sure it helps him get back in -- "I'll take either your AA job or your major league job" isn't a very coherent pitch.)
This is true. Dial didn't find what Carter did to be disrespectful, but "tolerant of incompetence" seems to have been aimed squarely at Lassus for peppering his criticism with such statements as "I could see" or "I wouldn't mind".
Maybe Carlos? (ChadBradfordWannabe)
BTW, it looks like Jose Valentin is going to be coming back soon. Obviously, this might be a coincidence but Jose Reyes has played his best baseball with him around. I wonder if he does have a good effect on him.
