N.Y. Times: Meet David Wright, the Real Mr. Met (RR)

Can David Wright fill the leadership void created when Lo Duca was not re-signed? Dunno, but I do like Eddie Keanepool’s rant on it.

Here’s the difference between D-Wright and Derek Jeter. Wright is a real leader and Jeter is a phony. A phony who is worshiped by the biased ass holes also known as the New York media. Wright is a leader because he would never throw a teammate under the bus as Jeter did to Alex Rodriguez and Wright is a stand up guy. When was the last time you heard anything of substance out of Jeter? If he’s not hawking jalopy’s for Ford or and awful tasting sports drink (Vitamim Water is the offical drink of the Eddie Kranpool Society) he’s showing off his $200 a pair line of footwear. Wright? After his team tanked night after night stood up and took it even though he was playing at an MVP level. In the off season the kid was every where answering question about the greatest collapse in baseball history. When Rodriguez needed someone to stand with him as the imbeciles at Highlander Stadium booed and booed Capt Phony #### never stepped up. D- Wright would never let that happen to a teammate. NEVER!

Also, you get lost in Wright's eyes while Jeter just smells funny.

Have you met him? He's like, the sweetest guy ever. I looked in his eyes once. It was like the first time I heard the Beatles.

They both do have really, really big heads...

Well, this rant obviously went a bit off the deep end, but it does make one point that I think has been glossed over. Derek Jeter (and Joe Torre) failed to stand up for ARod when he needed it. They were there for Giambi through the steroid mess, but they just let ARod hang out to dry.

I don't care what stupid things ARod said about you in the past, if you are the captain of the Yankees you have to step up and pull some of the heat away from ARod. The NY media firestorm was obviously affecting ARod's performance in 2006, and Jeter could have done so much with just a two minute statement.

I'm a Mets fan and tend to be a Jeter apologist, but that was a classless move from a classy guy.

awful tasting sports drink
I don't think David Wright's defenders want to go there.

I like that Wright is Old School. His quotes lately have been exactly the way I like them:

“I’ve said it all along, the team to beat in my eyes is the team that won last year,” Wright said at the 28th annual Thurman Munson Awards Dinner. “Philadelphia took care of us last year, they took care of business within the division and I think that going into this year we have to fight to take control again of the National League East.

“It’s not about making bold predictions. It’s not about verbally saying who’s the team to beat. It’s about going out there and showing it,” he added.

Class. Go out and do it on the field, and then talk.

Beaten to the punch by #5. Although I hear the liquid of feces once beat Accelerade in a blind taste test.

Well, there were those photos on that Seton Hall coed's MySpace page, so apparently he's taking steps to cover that part of the role.
