Shocker.

Also: disappointingly unspecific.

Somewhere, Terry Francona continues laughing his ass off.

indeed.

Probably too busy working on his book.

Seems like these articles write themselves when teams are underperforming. If the clubhouse wasn't in turmoil, we'd be hearing that everyone's too comfortable and the clubhouse needs a shakeup. Whatever.

To which I'd repeat: Shocker.

...it's clear that if the Red Sox are going to win this year, it'll have to be in spite of the bad feelings.

Fortunately, spite is a powerful motivator!

Well, given that the Red Sox are in their fourth straight month of under-performance, perhaps there's more to it than "whatever."

If the Bosox are going to play Britney Spears in the clubhouse, they could choose worse songs than that.
   11. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: June 18, 2012 at 04:33 PM (#4160294)
the brewers are underperforming and to date the only articles being published is that rickie weeks stinks, the bullpen stinks and that if things don't turn around soon greinke and/or marcum will be traded

sounds about right to me

Olney: Red Sox clubhouse "not a girl, not yet a woman"

Nah, that's just the visitors' locker room at Wrigley.

You know what could ease the tension in there? Beer.

And the players collectively in the home team's locker room.

I know he had to go, but to be quite honest -- I miss Big Z. If nothing else, he could add a modicum of excitement to the mix. I wore my Zambrano jersey to last week's Tigers game to great satisfaction...

Actually, it's already been established that he's busy exchanging semi-risqué pics w/other men's hot girlfriends.

And the Sox locker room fracture will never be healed till they start winning again, and then it will be instantly fixed.

What? Is this true?

Get some fried chicken in here. Some beer. People will loosen up and start winning again!

Alfonso Soriano would do wonders to the clubhouse.

I bet he could mow my lawn very nicely, too.

Seriously, DiceK and Youk for Garza and Soriano.

Leading voices agree!
The song was ranked at number five in the 2004 Pazz & Jop poll by The Village Voice... Pitchfork listed the song at number three on their Top 50 Singles of 2004 list.

Terry Francona with a towel.

I was hoping that was Madeleine Albright. In a towel.
   23. Never Give an Inge (Dave) Posted: June 18, 2012 at 06:55 PM (#4160486)

Wow, that Francona story is something else. I can actually believe that the towel photo was "in jest". I can't believe that some dude whose girlfriend is sending naughty pics to Terry Francona would think that Deadspin is the best place to go with that information.
   24. you got a STEAGLES? you're gonna need a STEAGLES. Posted: June 18, 2012 at 07:02 PM (#4160491)
it's kind of a small consolation, but the phillies clubhouse has remained stable, despite multiple team leaders being injured (utley, howard, thome, halladay, lee) or underperforming (rollins, pence, victorino, hamels), and the team as a whole taking the piss. maybe the clubhouse will get worse as they fall deeper into the NL east cellar, but right now, their mentality is still pretty much the same as it was in 2008.
   25. Srul Itza Posted: June 18, 2012 at 07:08 PM (#4160496)
But it doesn't take long to ascertain that the Red Sox are a splintered group, with a lot of players and staff unhappy for a lot of different reasons.

"25 players, 25 cabs" was a much better way of putting it.
   26. Kurt Posted: June 18, 2012 at 07:16 PM (#4160500)
I can't believe that some dude whose girlfriend is sending naughty pics to Terry Francona would think that Deadspin is the best place to go with that information.

In fairness, the timeline appears to have been:

1. Dude discovers pic Francona sent to gf
2. Dude contacts Deadspin, makes fun of Francona
3. Dude discovers that gf sent cleavage pic to Francona prior to Francona sending his towel pic.

So, ha-ha to dude.
   27. Greg (U)K Posted: June 18, 2012 at 07:17 PM (#4160502)
or underperforming (rollins, pence, victorino, hamels)

I haven't been following too closely, but I thought Pence was doing alright.
   28. boteman Posted: June 18, 2012 at 07:32 PM (#4160510)
...and the team as a whole taking the piss.

Lay off the beer and the diuretics.
   29. villageidiom Posted: June 18, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4160523)
Alfonso Soriano would do wonders to the clubhouse.
He spent a good part of last weekend cheering the spirits of Red Sox players.
   30. McCoy Wilfong for Money Posted: June 18, 2012 at 08:01 PM (#4160529)
see.
   31. booond Posted: June 18, 2012 at 08:55 PM (#4160582)
This is an improvement. Last year they were intoxicated.
   32. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 19, 2012 at 01:26 AM (#4160765)
but the phillies clubhouse has remained stable

Really? Wasn't there an issue with Utley just the other day when he went o-fer? Or was that just the fans that gave him a hard time?
   33. Jittery McFrog Posted: June 19, 2012 at 02:13 AM (#4160794)
For those aware of the problems, there is bad body language on display during games, as the anger manifests.

Anyone know who this may be referring to? I haven't noticed anything, but then again I'm not "aware of the problems".
   34. Gonfalon Bubble Posted: June 19, 2012 at 02:16 AM (#4160795)
I hope Francona didn't pose in that towel while Manny was still on the team.

Nose-picking, scalp-scratching, walking bowlegged, knee-biting.

In other words, nothing.
   36. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: June 19, 2012 at 07:16 AM (#4160842)
Pitchers sometimes complain when Bobby V pulls them - he has a quick hook with relievers, especially. Other than that, I don't know.

I hate to dismiss claims that a team which choked away a postseason berth in historic fashion, and has now spent nearly three months underperforming their talent, has some issues that go beyond poor play on the field. It certainly wouldn't shock me if someone wrote an article like Olney's, but with evidence. It's just equally hard to take these claims seriously when presented without evidence.
   37. Answer Guy Posted: June 19, 2012 at 09:34 AM (#4160903)
Getting that evidence you refer to is a pain in the ass, and may endanger access to the team in the future. But these articles write themselves and there's a built in audience for it. So of course they're going to get written with no evidence.
