Chris Colabello is on pace to have a 201 RBI season. That would be a record.

MIA: Henderson Alvarez (#37, 24, RHP, 1-2, 2.66)
NYM: Zack Wheeler (#45, 24, RHP, 1-2, 4.63)

GAME NOTES: I know for a fact there are people who care about an early season Marlins-Mets tilt. I've seen pictures of their tracks and spore in the Everglades.

Reds (11-11) @ Braves (14-7), 7:35pm
CIN: Homer Bailey (#34, 28, RHP, 1-1, 5.75)
ATL: Ervin Santana (#30, 31, RHP, 2-0, 0.86)

GAME NOTES: Somebody tell Ervin Santana that they gave up a 20-something pick in the amateur draft for him. A TWENTY-SOMETHING PICK!!

Athletics (14-8) @ Astros (7-16), 8:10pm
OAK: Jesse Chavez (#60, 30, RHP, 1-0, 1.38)

OMNICHATTER Matchup Of The Day
Rockies (12-11) @ Dodgers (13-10), 10:10pm
COL: Jordan Lyles (#24, 23, RHP, 3-0, 3.04)
LAD: Josh Beckett (#61, 34, RHP, 0-0, 2.57)

GAME NOTES: Did someone fix Josh Beckett, or is he just Haranging a Harang in the early going?

Indians (11-11) @ Giants (12-10), 10:15pm
CLE: Carlos Carrasco (#59, 27, RHP, 0-2, 7.31)
SFG: Tim Hudson (#17, 38, RHP, 2-1, 2.40)

GAME NOTES: Nice to see Huddy bouncing back from that horrific ankle thing last year. I have a theory that Tim Hudson is literally un-dislikable. I've never known anyone, even the most rabid Braves-hating fan of an opposing club, to hate on Timmy Hudson.

Rangers (14-8) @ Mariners (8-13), 10:10pm
TEX: Robbie Ross (#46, 25, LHP, 1-1, 2.31)
SEA: Roenis Elias(#29, 25, LHP, 1-2, 3.22)

GAME NOTES: "Prior to his start vs. Miami, Elias had combined to post a 2.16 ERA and hold opponents to a .196 batting average over 16 2/3 innings. The final results were mixed -- a win, a loss and a no-decision -- but it kept McClendon from dipping into a bullpen that's regularly had to bail out a rotation dealing with injuries to Taijuan Walker, Hisashi Iwakuma and James Paxton.

Texas starter Robbie Ross Jr. (1-1) was only part of the problem Sunday in a 16-2 loss to the White Sox. The lefty gave up seven hits and seven runs (four earned) in 5 1/3 innings while walking none and striking out eight. He threw 65 of 86 pitches for strikes, but yielded a pair of home runs on his way to his first loss of the season, raising his ERA to 2.31."
   3. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: April 25, 2014 at 11:45 AM (#4693979)
I wonder if Roenis Elias keeps a bureau of sports.

And yet, Zips and Steamer both still think he sucks. Is he worth rostering in fanatsy? [Note my starting outfield/1B/DH are Puig/Choo/Stanton/Adrian Gonzalez/David Ortiz with Austin Jackson on the bench. I'd dump either Aramis Ramirez or Tim Hudson to make room.]

Lyles was half the payment for Dexter Fowler, and has strongly outpaced expectations so far - in his three years with the Astros, he never posted an ERA below 5. He's also hitting .300/.364/.400.

4. I have no idea who Yordano Ventura is, but he's got a really low ERA so far. See also Robbie Ross. Cross-ref the comment about not following the softball circuit from comment #2.

I assume this is how you'll refer to him ("I've never heard of him before today.") for the rest of his career.

The previous regime in Houston was borderline criminal in bringing him up at age 20. He wasn't close to ready. Saw his last start on tv and he looked really good. Hope he continues to go well.

Ventura was a Top 100 prospect last year and was a darkhorse pick for ROY this year. He garnered some buzz last year for throwing the fastest pitch in the big leagues, and this year so far has thrown 6 fastest pitches and the fastest pitch since Pitch F/X began recording velocity.

Just realized that Carlos Santana is now a 3B/DH/C.

Wasn't aware he was playing some third. Actually a fair amount.
   13. Ray (RDP) Posted: April 25, 2014 at 03:48 PM (#4694334)
Meanwhile Joe Mauer is not off to a roaring start at 1B. The Twins are in danger of sapping his value, and he's got five more years left on the deal.

Yes it is a stupid question, for anyone in the baseball business.

Pujols with his 9th homerun of a season...pretty sure he'll beat his total from last year, and probably the year before (and maybe the two combined)

Albert is pacing the Royals for homeruns for the season.

Pirates challenge the play on the field, the tv views are not clear...but apparently the replay booth has a view that is good enough to reverse the call. (man on first one out, ball hit to right field, runner(Jay) advances to the third, strong throw, a little high, tags the runner's hand as he's sliding into third. Close play)

2 minutes 30 seconds for the review.
   27. cardsfanboy Posted: April 25, 2014 at 09:26 PM (#4694558)
Adams beats the shift again...by hitting it up the middle. So technically he didn't beat the shift, just that he got a hit against the shift.... I don't think it's worked once against him this year.

Pujols is up to .293 average now. He might end up getting over .300... That would be great. I'm going to spend a lot of time this season following his progress... I would love for him to have a 7 war season. I wonder if his fielding has returned to good levels yet.

46-- Dozier was worthless the 6 weeks of 2013, but then really turned it around--.255/.330/.464 with 15 homers and 29 doubles in his last 400 PAs. So far this year he's showing that wasn't a fluke.

Cano is 274/326/345 on the year. Only 82 PA and just shy of a 100 OPS+ so not terrible, but he's off to a slow start. I sort of feel like Seattle's home park is ruining hitters there, but I can't put my finger on why. It's an extreme pither's park and some good hitting prospects such as Smoak and Ackley have fallen flat there.

Cano is 288/345/404 on the road and 267/313/267 at home thus far. Granted only 30 PA at home so, virtually meaningless. But it's something I'm watching.

Bases loaded, 0 outs, infield in, and Barton hits a grounder right to Altuve. Instead of a force out at home, it's a 3 run "infield single" with the 3rd run scoring on an error.

Dodger starters 11-3
Dodger relievers 2-8

This whole bullpen is a pile of has beens and never weres. Jansen's pretty good, but he's been a bit off this year. Withrow, Howell and Perez are mediocre and everyone else is a steaming pile of suck. Who gives Jaime F'ing Wright $1.8m?!
