If the season ended today, the second wild card team in the AL would be the ------.

No afternoon games today? What am I supposed to do at work, work?

I saw this in Klaw's ESPN chat last week:
I don't think that showing power indicates figuring out MLB pitching. I think increasing your contact rate and your walk rate would be a better indicator than that. A hitter can still be kind of lost but kill the occasional mistake pitch.

Good summary of Pedro Alvarez's career.

I am assuming the Yankees and Twins would have some sort of WWE style brawl for it?
   5. Chris Fluit Posted: May 23, 2014 at 03:41 PM (#4712219)
Good summary of Pedro Alvarez's career.

I was thinking Mike Moustakas.
   6. stanmvp48 Posted: May 23, 2014 at 04:20 PM (#4712263)
Twins are percentage points ahead of the Yanks

Good summary of Pedro Alvarez's career.

I was thinking Pedro Feliz. 2006 and 2007 played 150-160 games each year with 80 OPS+ but 20-22 HRs. Great glove actually made him a 2 war player each year though.

Edit: funny, i remember everything but the great glove...

Man on second one out, and the pitcher sacrificed him over to third. The Cardinals announcer, Rick Horton stated "I don't agree with that play." then later on he pulls out run expectancy and says that it was 42% with one out man on second down to 27% with two outs man on third....mind you obviously the chart is only useful for average hitters and pitchers are far from average, but it's nice to see them using run expectancy...of course the three run homerun made it 100% likely they will score.

Wow...Joey Butler went to the Blue Waves in Japan? Here is a guy who I think is major league ready and could have been a 3rd/4th outfielder for about half the teams in baseball right now.

You were saying??

anybody watching cards-reds game on mlb network? interesting color man who seems to know what he is talking about

Mike Matheny > Matt Williams

Denard Span on 2B so of course Mister Bunt-a-rific has his #2 hole hitter Anthony Rendon sac bunt Span to 3B where he perished as the inning ended on a DP after Werth walked. Rendon's line is .259/.307/.432 for OPS=.739 and OPS+ of 103.

I want to see a manager just have every single player bunt every single plate appearance the entire game, all 27 outs. Just get all this goddamned bunting out of the system all at once and stop giving away outs in the future.
   12. cardsfanboy Posted: May 23, 2014 at 08:32 PM (#4712397)
Mike Matheny > Matt Williams

This was the Reds manager making the move. (I should have clarified that)

Nope, I got Fox Sports Midwest which has Horton(who is pretty good) and McLaughlin who this year hasn't been terrible for once, but he still takes the conversation off into random ass places for multiple pitches.
   14. Crispix reaches boiling point with lackluster play Posted: May 23, 2014 at 08:38 PM (#4712401)

Then a brilliant front office gave him a 2-year contract and instantly went to 2 World Series. Then they let him go … no more pennants.
   15. cardsfanboy Posted: May 23, 2014 at 08:41 PM (#4712402)
Cardinals are not even trying to hold or stop Hamilton when he gets on base. I think that with it being Shelby that they have decided to not stress him out worrying about the runner.
   16. cardsfanboy Posted: May 23, 2014 at 08:57 PM (#4712406)
Peralta gets picked off to end the inning, with the pinch hitter at the plate.... Ouch.... Means we replace the pitcher and unless they do a double switch, it means that the pitcher is leading off next inning also. You cannot get picked off there.
   17. cardsfanboy Posted: May 23, 2014 at 08:59 PM (#4712407)
I guess that means Jay stays in the game at center.... Bourjos gets replaced. (luckily he was the last 'batter')
   18. puck Posted: May 23, 2014 at 08:59 PM (#4712408)
Both third basemen out of the game with injuries in Atlanta. Not sure what happened to Chris Johnson; Arenado hurt his finger or something on a slide. Not sure how bad it is.
   19. cardsfanboy Posted: May 23, 2014 at 09:00 PM (#4712410)
Cardinals are using the crap out of saber stats in their broadcasts...

DRS just popped up -39 last year as a team, +45 already this year (first in baseball)
   20. DA Baracus, Braves Travel Agent Posted: May 23, 2014 at 09:02 PM (#4712413)
Johnson isn't hurt, he threw a hissy fit and was benched.
   21. cardsfanboy Posted: May 23, 2014 at 09:02 PM (#4712414)
Mclaughlin..."Seth Maness, slowly but surely getting better this season."

"Spoke too soon." as Mesoraco crushed a homerun. Every swing that guy takes looks like a homerun swing.
   22. cardsfanboy Posted: May 23, 2014 at 09:26 PM (#4712422)
Great play by the Reds first baseman. Dives for the ball, and instead of getting up off the ground, just tosses it behind him without looking, and a perfect strike to the covering pitcher.
   23. Bote Man Posted: May 23, 2014 at 09:30 PM (#4712424)
@joe_morgan: Nolan Arenado left tonight's game with a left mallet finger fracture. #Rockies

I wondered whatever happened to Joe Morgan. He misspelled "mullet" though.
   24. The Yankee Clapper Posted: May 23, 2014 at 09:32 PM (#4712425)
Jeter passed Lou Gehrig tonight for 11th in Runs Scored on the All-Time list. Two hits, too.
   25. puck Posted: May 23, 2014 at 09:34 PM (#4712427)
In medicine, mallet finger, also baseball finger,[1] dropped finger, dolphin finger, "Virgin Finger", "Hannan Finger" and (more generally) extensor tendon injury, is an injury of the extensor digitorum tendon of the fingers at the distal interphalangeal joint (DIP).[2] It results from hyperflexion of the extensor digitorum tendon, and usually occurs when a ball (such as a softball, basketball, or volleyball), while being caught, hits an outstretched finger and jams it - creating a ruptured or stretched extensor digitorum tendon.
   26. Bote Man Posted: May 23, 2014 at 10:12 PM (#4712437)
OK, so...it's like when you bend that chicken wing all the way back the wrong way so you hear things snapping...like that???
   27. DA Baracus, Braves Travel Agent Posted: May 23, 2014 at 10:30 PM (#4712441)
Yeah. He hurt it sliding.
   28. Perry Posted: May 23, 2014 at 10:33 PM (#4712442)
Denver Post story says generally with that injury it's 6-8 weeks in a splint, even if no surgery is required. Stupid head first slide.
   29. Los Angeles El Hombre de Anaheim Posted: May 23, 2014 at 11:32 PM (#4712454)
Mike Trout has homered and gunned a guy down going for third on a fly ball. Just another night at the ballpark.

Sometimes I wish I was an Angel fan...but then remember I had 10 years of Pujols, several years of Edmonds, McGwire, and Yadier and I don't feel so wishful. (not to mention a youth of Ozzie, Brock, Simmons and Hernandez)

Still Trout is amazing(obviously) and it's gotta be a pure joy to see a guy consistently having a good day on both sides of the diamond.
   31. Los Angeles El Hombre de Anaheim Posted: May 24, 2014 at 01:01 AM (#4712470)
Angels win again. They're playing extremely well, the starting pitching's been fantastic. Now just 2.5 out of first.
