Of course I’m submitting this on 5-28-2014, but Flux Capacitor is… uh… fluxing.

Oh well... Cardinals bullpen blew it, defense didn't help.

Did Matheny forget Matt Adams is available? I'm pretty sure you want him up there in that spot and not Shane Robinson.

Vin still sounds like he has a cold.

edit: Vin Scully schooling Puig on Baseball 101. Classic.

and Shane Robinson is up.

The Cardinals almost couldn't have a worse-hitting stable of pinch-hitters if they decided to just go with a 17-man pitching staff.

If you consider Bourjos/Jay as a single starter (they've actually both started the last two games), then this year's bench players (Mark Ellis, Daniel Descalso, Shane Robinson, Tony Cruz, Randal Grichuk, Greg Garcia, Joey Butler, and Pete Kozma) have hit .183 (40-for-219) with 9 doubles and zero home runs.

Of bench players with more than 10 at bats, only Tony Cruz is hitting better than .181.

Russell! With the muscle!

#104 - That was the Nationals' lament last year, although this year's bench is slacking off in May. Admittedly, they've pressed bench players into daily service on account of all the injuries to starting players, and maybe those guys just can't cut it in day-to-day action. They're on the bench for a reason, after all.

Here comes Maholm with his 17K/18BB numbers in 42 innings. What could possibly go wrong?
