Anyone can get an autographed baseball, but for the true collector, Heinie Manush's old house in Washington, DC is for sale. Looks pretty good, more photos here.

Have I just arrived from Mars or is that the market price for houses in Cleveland Park in general now?? HOLY COW POOP!!

Now I feel like my father who was born in Georgetown a long, long time ago. He likes to moan that when he grew up they were called "row houses" and now they're called "town houses" with rich people living in them. My, how times have changed!

Anyway, in other D.C. news Matty Williams is getting Bryce Harper more plate appearances to help him improve his timing by batting him 6th again, notwithstanding his solo home run yesterday in the losing effort. Maybe the losing effort was all Bryce's fault???

In last nights Red Sox Royals game there was an infield pop up that was nearly dropped. It went theoug Hosmer but Moustakos was there and caught it against his chest.

The ball was tossed out of play and Daniel Nava gave it to a fan who is one of the little leaguers I coach. He was really excited to get the ball.

Cardinals are beating up on Greinke...4-0 Cardinals in the first inning after a two run Matt Holliday double followed by a 2 run Matt Adams homerun.... Could we say "we have Greinke on the Matt." :) (need a better expression than that)

I'm sorry, but if you can't anticipate that when you bring in a lefty to face a very weak lefty-hitter in the 6th inning of a one-run game, the opposing manager will bring in his lefty-masher, that is a fireable offense.

“I outsmarted myself,” Ned Yost said.
   6. cardsfanboy Posted: July 19, 2014 at 05:49 PM (#4754460)
Matt Holliday is replaced by Bourjos due to injury. Earlier in the game he was nearly picked off of second base and was shaken up, probably something related to that.
   7. cardsfanboy Posted: July 19, 2014 at 05:51 PM (#4754462)
I wonder if playing teams like the Dodgers(High speed teams) inspire some other teams to be a little more aggressive on the base paths. (Bourjos just stole second)

In other sports, Rory McIlroy is in the process of Kaymering the British Open: six strokes ahead after three days.

McLaughlin is talking about how it might be hard for Don Mattingly, a hard nose player, might not be able to motivate/connect with a team like the Dodgers that is a collection of high paid players....Not kidding. Mattingly a guy who for several years was one of the highest paid players in the game, who was a coach of the Yankees(the definition of a collection of high paid talent) isn't going to be able to relate to high paid players?

I know I praised him yesterday for being competent, but then he pulls crap like this out of no where in an attempt to bad mouth the current stars in a subtle way, and ends up saying utterly stupid crap.
   10. cardsfanboy Posted: July 19, 2014 at 07:08 PM (#4754508)
Neshek hasn't allowed a run since April 9th.... not counting the All star game...
   11. cardsfanboy Posted: July 19, 2014 at 07:13 PM (#4754510)
Cardinals win 4-2 against the Dodgers, 2 in a row...Need a National's win today... and maybe a Rockies win for some breathing room. (Yankees already did their thing today)

   12. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: July 19, 2014 at 07:14 PM (#4754512)
I watched Neshek in his appearance last night. What's with that front foot tap on the mound as he comes set? It reminded me of those animated bunnies in Madagascar. Surprised that hasn't drawn him a balk call or two (from Bob Davidson, natch).

Brewers TV just put up a graphic for Garza this season entitled "Role Reversal" with two columns: his first 11 starts, and everything since. It showed his recent numbers improving dramatically, yet the Brewer's team W/L record was better in the first 11 of his outings. Baseball is a strange game sometimes.
   14. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: July 19, 2014 at 07:27 PM (#4754517)
Is Matt Garza still the head case I knew him to be with the Rays? I remember him having Gio Gonzalez Syndrome, where if things weren't going absolutely perfectly he would melt down and have to be taken out of the game to avoid surrendering 76 more runs in the afternoon.

In the bottom 1st in D.C. Span got a single into the RF corner, Rendon K'd, then Werth reached down and poked a neat ball into the RF corner that Braun took a curious route to chase down. And now he just walked Adam LaRoche, so it's bases loaded, 1 out with the Franch of the Facechise, Ryan Zimmerman coming to bat.

This should prove interesting.

edit: Commence meltdown.

edit2: And Garza is down for the count. Wow. And it was all singles, bloops, dinks, bleeders, dribblers--and some bobbles. But a lot of 'em.

Roenicke brings in a Nationals' 2005 draft pick Marco Estrada to face...the pitcher.

Roark bunts, Estrada makes a very acrobatic dive to scoop the ball into Lucroy's glove to spin around and tag out Desmond, but Matty is challenging whether he blocked the plate. Replay Review, get your shopping bags of popcorn ready.

edit: Desmond out. Lucroy did not block the plate. 5-0 Nats after 1 inning of play. Can they hold the lead??? You won't believe what happens next!

Puig's hand getting X-rays after a Joe Kelly HBP.

I think that is more precautionary than anything, it hit him on the meaty part of the left hand. (He was starting the swing and hit the ball, didn't even let the trainer go out to talk to him) It didn't look like it was going to be that bad.

You can't give up a 2 run dinger to the ghost of Jimmy Rollins, man.
   22. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 19, 2014 at 09:44 PM (#4754552)
I was a fan of the trade that brought Travis Wood to Chicago, but he's been pretty awful this year.
   23. Roger McDowell spit on me! Posted: July 19, 2014 at 09:59 PM (#4754556)
Speaking of looking awful - Jason Hammel. Gives up 3 in the 1st, 1 in the 2nd, 1 (so far) in the 3rd and gets pulled with runners on 2nd and 3rd with no one out.
   24. DKDC Posted: July 19, 2014 at 10:03 PM (#4754557)
O's strand the bases loaded.

Would have loved to see them pour it on there, need more than a 5 run lead to feel OK after last night's disaster.
   25. Roger McDowell spit on me! Posted: July 19, 2014 at 10:06 PM (#4754559)
That was a really nice play by Donaldson to barehanded the ball while on the bag and then get the out at 1st. Oh, and Brandon Moss...5-1
   26. DKDC Posted: July 19, 2014 at 10:12 PM (#4754560)
Nice rebound by Chen, with the the GIDP and K.

Now, time to beat up on the bullpen.
   27. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 19, 2014 at 10:14 PM (#4754562)
Not surprising the Cubs are giving up more runs since the trade but they are getting CRUSHED in the last two series.
   28. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: July 19, 2014 at 10:16 PM (#4754564)
The Nationals are up big, leading 8-1 over the Brewers so Matty is just giving work to some bullpen guys. Blerry Jevins comes on to face Ryan Braun with a man on base, so what do the Best Fans In Baseball do?? THE F@CKING WAVE. In fact, they rise up in the section behind home plate just as Blevins delivers the pitch, which Braun turns into a 2-run homer. Thanks, a$$holes!

How ####. Matt Diaz is on Fox Sports South for Braves post-game.
   30. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: July 19, 2014 at 10:30 PM (#4754568)
I agree that the Nats and Braves should be considered in a virtual tie as long as they are within a few games of each other from here down the stretch. Percentage points don't interest me at this point.

Meanwhile in the Steel City, the Rockies and Pirates are tied 2-2 in the 11th and the Pirates pitcher Hughes(?) just speared a line shot back to the mound for 1 out and doubled off Culberson at 3B for a double play. Then the batter, Blackmon, hopped and hobbled around, it looked like he twisted his left ankle a bit on the backswing.

But that was pretty impressive just as I tuned it in. I love my Roku.

edit: Why is Hugh Jackman pitching for the Rockies???
   31. DKDC Posted: July 19, 2014 at 10:38 PM (#4754571)
Chen gives 2 runs insurance right back.

God forbid the O's have a decent lead.
   32. Lassus Posted: July 19, 2014 at 10:40 PM (#4754573)
Ah, bases loaded, Ruben didn't swing at a single strike.
   33. Roger McDowell spit on me! Posted: July 19, 2014 at 10:40 PM (#4754574)
Don't worry. If it stays at 4 runs or so, you'll get to see your old friend Jim Johnson...
   34. DKDC Posted: July 19, 2014 at 10:40 PM (#4754575)
Chen throws a beautiful pitch to the outside corner to strike out Moss, and it's called a ball, but they get a generous makeup call later in the at bat on a check swing.

All is well. Keep beating up the bullpen.
   35. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: July 19, 2014 at 10:42 PM (#4754576)
Jordy Mercer smacks a ball all the way to the CF wall to score Walker, Buccos win it 3-2 in 11 innings. A packed house in Pittsburgh tonight. Hmmm, they're 2 games out of 1st place in the NL Central. How about that?!
   36. DKDC Posted: July 19, 2014 at 10:44 PM (#4754577)
A's bring in Abad, presumably to throw at MAchado.

Edit: or not, apparently Abad can do other things than throw at players and not get suspended

Don't worry. If it stays at 4 runs or so, you'll get to see your old friend Jim Johnson...

Then it won't stay at 4 runs or so!!
   38. greenback calls it soccer Posted: July 20, 2014 at 12:25 AM (#4754591)
This Mariners-Angels game has the look of a contest where neither team is interested in scoring again before the 15th inning or so.
