@FeinsandNYDN: Yankees acquire Chase Headley from the Padres for Yangervis Solarte and Rafael DePaula.

The final piece??
   2. Davo Dozier Posted: July 22, 2014 at 01:30 PM (#4755740)
I would honestly rather have Solarte than Headley for the rest of the year--money aside. I just think he's a better player at this point.

At least Headley was once a good MLB hitter. Solarte's never shown any indication he is.

Odd stat of the year for the Braves: Freddie Freeman is 2-41 with 15 strikeouts against the Marlins.

I havent been here in years. I am pleased that this still exists

Marlins leading the Rednecks 6-2 in the sixth.

I can't believe that horseshit call didn't get overturned. What an absolute joke.
   8. boteman is here Posted: July 22, 2014 at 09:14 PM (#4756016)
I havent been here in years.

4 years, 4 months, 27 days.

James Loney and Jose Molina pull off the double steal for the Rays.

James Loney and Jose Molina pull off the double steal for the Rays.

That's gotta be squarely in You Can't Predict Baseball territory.

James Loney and Jose Molina pull off the double steal for the Rays.

With the (American League) pitcher batting.
   12. Crispix reaches boiling point with lackluster play Posted: July 22, 2014 at 09:37 PM (#4756024)
Remember Grady Sizemore? He's back. In Phillie form.

Yusmeiro Petit gives up 5 runs in 5 innings in his 50th career start, in a career that started in 2006. Who would have guessed he'd last so much longer than co-trade-mate Mike Jacobs.
   13. salvomania Posted: July 22, 2014 at 09:48 PM (#4756027)
Looks like the All-Star version of Adam Wainwright is on display vs. Tampa Bay, at least in the 5th: leadoff walk, then a one-out error by Wainwright to put a second runner on, then a double down the line, then he hits Zobrist, bases loaded just one out and a run already in...
   14. salvomania Posted: July 22, 2014 at 09:51 PM (#4756029)
I sorta called this inning to my wife, when in the previous inning Wainright "pitched around" Molina---walking him on four pitches---with two outs and the pitcher on deck.

I never understood not going after the guy before the pitcher with two outs... there's a reason he's batting at the end of the order, and wouldn't you rather have the pitcher leading off?

And now Wainright walks in a run, 3-1 Rays, still only one out..
   15. greenback calls it soccer Posted: July 22, 2014 at 09:55 PM (#4756032)
I thought only the Cardinals were allowed slop two-run doubles down the opposite line.
   16. boteman is here Posted: July 22, 2014 at 09:56 PM (#4756033)
Shoulda started Kershaw, huh???
   17. Ziggy Posted: July 22, 2014 at 09:57 PM (#4756034)
What's wrong with Wainwright? That was TERRRIBLE.
   18. salvomania Posted: July 22, 2014 at 09:59 PM (#4756036)
Wainwright knocked out in the 5th---this five-run inning (just two base hits) has featured three walks, a HBP, and a fielding error by Wainright. The two hits were both doubles, one with the bases loaded... and still two on, two outs...
   19. Ziggy Posted: July 22, 2014 at 10:01 PM (#4756037)
Is Wainwright injured? That inning was amazingly bad.
   20. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2014 at 10:10 PM (#4756042)
Anthony Rizzo has quietly taken the NL lead in homers thanks to his second multi-HR game in the last few days.
   21. Joey B. "disrespects the A" Posted: July 22, 2014 at 10:26 PM (#4756050)
The Redneck Rally falls short; Marlins win 6-5.
   22. salvomania Posted: July 22, 2014 at 10:27 PM (#4756052)
Huh, somehow, even after a review, Holliday's ball down the line that kicked up chalk when it landed is ruled foul...
   23. salvomania Posted: July 22, 2014 at 10:28 PM (#4756053)
...so Holliday leaves no doubt as to where the next pitch landed...
   24. cardsfanboy Posted: July 22, 2014 at 10:36 PM (#4756056)
...so Holliday leaves no doubt as to where the next pitch landed...

That thing got out in a hurry.... weather warming up, hopefully will have a positive effect on our offense(July has been much better than the rest of the season)
   25. boteman is here Posted: July 22, 2014 at 10:39 PM (#4756057)
Ryan Zimmerman pulled his hamstring running down to 1B on a would-be double play ball. He left the game in obvious pain, although he was quite matter-of-fact while sitting there awaiting the trainer and manager to walk out to him.

Now Matty Williams truly gets his chance to shine as manayer emeritus.
   26. Joey B. "disrespects the A" Posted: July 22, 2014 at 10:39 PM (#4756058)
The good news is the Nats have tied it up.

The bad news is Ryan Zimmerman just pulled a hammy and is probably going on the D.L. for a while.

EDIT: what Boteman said.
   27. puck Posted: July 22, 2014 at 10:42 PM (#4756060)
Tulo's hurt again, of course. The article suggests it's related to the bad quad tear he had back in 2008. That's seems odd, but I guess anything involving injury with Tulo should not be surprising.
   28. salvomania Posted: July 22, 2014 at 10:43 PM (#4756061)
Great, the only pitch the entire at bat that's a strike and Bourjos watches it right into the catcher's mitt for strike three...
   29. salvomania Posted: July 22, 2014 at 10:47 PM (#4756062)
And why the hell is Peter Bourjos PHing for Jay, who is OPSing .900 vs. LHP this year---and is at .711 lifetime vs. LHP, not too shabby for a LHB---WEHEN BOURJOS IS HITTING .195/.235/.338 VS. LHP???? It's not like they just knocked out Cy--I mean Jake--Odirizzi and are one big hit away from getting back in this thing...
   30. cardsfanboy Posted: July 22, 2014 at 10:55 PM (#4756064)
Mark Ellis pinched hit for the pitcher and the TV announcers didn't once mention him coming up, or his bat as they spent their time talking about brothers/players.
   31. The Yankee Clapper Posted: July 22, 2014 at 11:07 PM (#4756066)
It's 1968 again at Yankee Stadium, 0-0 in bottom of 12th. Yankees have bases loaded, one out, Rangers changing pitchers.
   32. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: July 22, 2014 at 11:11 PM (#4756068)
wow, Beltre.
   33. Joey B. "disrespects the A" Posted: July 22, 2014 at 11:12 PM (#4756070)
LaRoche with a bomb, now 7-4 Nats.
   34. The Yankee Clapper Posted: July 22, 2014 at 11:12 PM (#4756071)
Cervelli hits line drive right at Beltre, 2 out. Up to Yankee Legend Chase Headley.

EDIT: Headed to 13th. Solarte, a True Yangee, might have the better bet there.
   35. DKDC Posted: July 22, 2014 at 11:13 PM (#4756072)
Headley with the groundout to end the 12th. Does either team have the talent to score a run?

Lucroy with a walk off HR off of LeCure.

   39. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: July 22, 2014 at 11:44 PM (#4756078)
Rangers and Yankees have now both exhausted their pitchers.
   40. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: July 22, 2014 at 11:45 PM (#4756079)
nevermind, Rangers now have Tepesch warming up.
   41. jobu Posted: July 22, 2014 at 11:58 PM (#4756085)
Robbie Grossman just uncorked one of the worst OF throws you'll see this year.
   42. Gamingboy Posted: July 22, 2014 at 11:58 PM (#4756086)
A lot of extra innings tonight...
   43. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: July 22, 2014 at 11:59 PM (#4756088)
Headley with a chance to win the game for the Yankees, despite waking up in Chicago this morning.
   44. Every Inge Counts Posted: July 23, 2014 at 12:02 AM (#4756090)
Brad Ziegler doing a good job auditioning to play for Detroit this season.
   45. DKDC Posted: July 23, 2014 at 12:03 AM (#4756091)
After quiet 5 innings for both teams, O's lash out and take a 3-0 lead.
   46. The Yankee Clapper Posted: July 23, 2014 at 12:04 AM (#4756093)
Headley's RBI single gives Yankees 2-1 victory in 14 innings. An auspicious start.

Bang! Zoom! Another Curly W in the books!!!

Manship Sinks Phillies! Film at 11.

edit: Jeeze, they took a 5-5 tie into the 14th inning as a war of attrition, then the Phillies can't get the Giants out again and again. Now finally they just recorded out #3 but the damage has been done, 9-5 Giants going to the bottom 14th.

All those runs come on the Manship Jeff B.
I think he wanna go home.
Why won't they let him go home?
Well, he feel so broke up,
he wanna go home.
   49. boteman is here Posted: July 23, 2014 at 12:44 AM (#4756107)
Now The Timmeh on in relief of George Kontos who has just plain run outta gas in the 14th. Ryan Howard singled to CF, then Marlon Byrd hit a fly ball out to CF, then Wil Nieves (who??) DOUBLED off the CF wall, so it was time.

Now, watch a slug-fest break out with the game seesawing between tied and go ahead and back to tied for another few innings.

edit: The Timmeh gets his first career save. woohoo. pop the champagne corks.

The 3rd extra-innings game tonight. I'm intermittently awake enough to watch them. Athletics had a good chance to score there after Punto stole 2B, but not enough outs and not enough ooomph in the bats.

I believe in Stephen Vogt !
Manny sucks !!
And Abad is still one of my favorite names!
