Nationals game has already started in Miami. They must really want to get the heck outta there!

Sources say I am interested in a turkey sandwich but may balk at paying $5 for a footlong.

Pic of the crowd. Zuckerman says a head counts shows about 375 people in attendance.

That was 2007.

Right, should have realized the Marlins have new digs now.
   6. PreservedFish Posted: July 30, 2014 at 02:30 PM (#4760559)
Just noticed that MLB.com has a special "CHALLENGE" logo when a game is undergoing a replay challenge. That is hella stupid.
   7. theboyqueen Posted: July 30, 2014 at 02:53 PM (#4760595)
Hammel just gave up 6 runs in the first inning to the Astros. He has looked awful since coming the A's.
   8. The Chronicles of Reddick Posted: July 30, 2014 at 02:58 PM (#4760608)
WTF is wrong with Hammel? 6 runs to Houston already?
   9. boteman Posted: July 30, 2014 at 03:45 PM (#4760681)
Nats break tie. Going to home 9th in Miami, but R. Soriano not pitching, it's Drew Storen. Soriano was not sharp his last time out and threw a "lot" of pitches recently (for a closer).

So far, this Storen thing aint workin out.

Sorry Nats, but you don't get a Bang, Zoom for this win because of your performance in this series. That was atrocious.

Double TOOTBLAN by the Pirates and they were both really bad TOOTBLANs.

So Hammel is an official nightmare. A's have lost every game he has started so far and his ERA is over 9 and hes only played a little more than 4 innings per game. Milone would have been much better. My guess is they cut bait and go back to Milone.
   14. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 30, 2014 at 07:02 PM (#4760898)
Running into a double play off of a walk is...interesting.
   15. puck Posted: July 30, 2014 at 07:17 PM (#4760904)
Hammel can never have two decent halves in a season.
   16. The Yankee Clapper Posted: July 30, 2014 at 08:12 PM (#4760938)
Brett Gardner hits another HR against Texas! Hitting .576 over his last 33 ABs vs. Rangers, according to YES, if I heard right.

#12--Oh boy, that's ugly.
   18. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 30, 2014 at 08:21 PM (#4760950)
Ugh, I feel like it's always either Travis Wood or Edwin Jackson pitching for the Cubs.
   19. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 30, 2014 at 08:22 PM (#4760953)
Also, this Tigers/Sox game is a bloodbath early.
   20. boteman Posted: July 30, 2014 at 08:39 PM (#4760967)
Gausman takes a no-hitter into the 5th...and then walks 3 consecutive batters, gives up a single and double and it goes from 4-0 Orioles to 4-3 Orioles just like that. He threw 39 pitches in the inning.
   21. Spahn Insane Posted: July 30, 2014 at 08:41 PM (#4760970)
Walks, care to speculate as to why Wood's been so crappy this year (on the mound, at least)? I don't have any reason to think he's hurt, but his command seems terrible.
   22. PASTE Thinks This Trout Kid Might Be OK (Zeth) Posted: July 30, 2014 at 09:20 PM (#4760991)
Wow, the Twins are melting down on the bases tonight. Danny Duffy got close to pitching a scoreless inning without retiring a batter.
   23. Joey B. has reignited his October #Natitude Posted: July 30, 2014 at 09:21 PM (#4760992)
An 85 pitch shutout for Kluber? Wow. This guy is for real.
   24. Davo's Favorite Tacos Are Moose Tacos Posted: July 30, 2014 at 09:22 PM (#4760993)
The Twins began the 4th inning with a single, two walks, and two stolen bases, and scored zero runs.
   25. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: July 30, 2014 at 09:37 PM (#4761004)
That Pirate base running needs a category all its own. TOOTBLAN is insufficient to describe the idiocy that that required.
   26. cardsfanboy Posted: July 30, 2014 at 10:13 PM (#4761022)
Mozeliak says that Oscar won't be traded at all....so that makes me think he's gone.

Uggla released by the Giants. I think we can safely call that one a failed experiment.
   28. cardsfanboy Posted: July 30, 2014 at 10:20 PM (#4761029)
Cardinals should realize that in Petco, nothing is going over the fence if it's hit to dead center.
   29. Der-K and the statistical werewolves. Posted: July 30, 2014 at 10:29 PM (#4761032)
uggs was 0-11, one walk, six strikeouts, three errors w/ sf.
   30. Davo's Favorite Tacos Are Moose Tacos Posted: July 30, 2014 at 10:30 PM (#4761034)
Giants release Tyler Colvin too--are they trading for someone else now too?

(Sad about Colvin, who I keep thinking is going to turn it around one of these years. That year has not been 2014.)

I actually feel sorry for him, even though he never seemed terribly likeable.
   32. Davo's Favorite Tacos Are Moose Tacos Posted: July 30, 2014 at 10:41 PM (#4761042)
If it's the end for Uggla, though, let's just say, one helluva career for a Rule 5 guy. Only 8 second basemen have more homers than his 233.
   33. Davo's Favorite Tacos Are Moose Tacos Posted: July 30, 2014 at 10:42 PM (#4761043)
11 Ks/2 BBs in 6 innings for Travis Wood. 9 Ks/0 BBs in 7 innings for Brett Anderson.

These are two bad, bad, bad hitting teams right here.
   34. BDC Posted: July 30, 2014 at 11:01 PM (#4761057)
Rangers win a series for the first time in July.
   35. cardsfanboy Posted: July 30, 2014 at 11:04 PM (#4761059)
Keystone Kops wearing Cardinal uniforms right now. (providing more evidence for a team error stat)
   36. cardsfanboy Posted: July 30, 2014 at 11:10 PM (#4761061)
Gimme run there, Padres up 2-0 in the 3rd, with the Cardinals offense, Padres pitching and Petco, that is probably game.
   37. Spahn Insane Posted: July 30, 2014 at 11:11 PM (#4761062)
33: don't remind me. I'm at the ballpark, and I'm starving (and I refuse to eat Wrigley's crap concessions). This needs to end while there are still decent food options available, but as last night's game showed (11 straight innings without either team scoring), offenses this bad can drag it out a good bit.
   38. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 30, 2014 at 11:17 PM (#4761065)

I haven't gotten to watch many of his starts this year, which is probably for the best, but yeah, his command is just not there. The stuff still seems to be there, but with his wonky command, he's having to give the hitters something good to hit, and he's giving up a lot of crooked-number innings as a result. It sucks, because it was looking like he had turned one of those proverbial corners last year. As it is, 2013 is looking like the outlier, as he's taken several steps back. His fat ERA earlier in the year was the result of a couple really bad outings, but he's been pretty lousy most times out since then.

Joe Simpson is particularly insufferable tonight on the topic of Yasiel Puig.

Cardinals are 3 for 17 on challenges this year.
   41. cardsfanboy Posted: July 31, 2014 at 12:42 AM (#4761081)
5-1 Cardinals.... this team just looks that weak right now. Playing listless with no heart, slobby fundamentals, and skills and poor decision making by the hitters even... Bourjos gets the only rbi by beating out a double play ball, after the Cardinals got a couple of back to back hits...then he promptly gets picked off. Error on Wong/Taveras as they let a ball drop, Adams swings at 75 mph ball that is inside and arcing, ball just went under the shortstop glove and it was ruled a double....yes San Diego has had some luck--ball stops in the corner instead of bouncing out turning a double into a triple, but this is one of the games, that the team lost, not that the other team won.

   42. cardsfanboy Posted: July 31, 2014 at 12:45 AM (#4761082)
Make that 9-1.... Score now more accurately reflects the game on the field.
