Seems like only about one third of MLB announcers so far have been able to correctly pronounce Oscar's last name as "Ta-VER-ahs," not "Ta-VAR-ace".

It's a phonetic language, guys, it shouldn't be that hard.

Come on you horse's ass, ######## umpire. What the hell is wrong with you?
   5. boteman Posted: July 06, 2014 at 03:09 PM (#4744737)
#3 I lost count of how many announcers would say "en-ca-naR-cion" instead of "en-car-na-cion". I mean, it's just like Carnation condensed milk with an "EN" in front. But Amurikens talk funny anyway, compared to the rest of the world, so whaddaya expect?
   6. esseff Posted: July 06, 2014 at 03:23 PM (#4744741)
Only one run given up, but Marco Gonzales is at 147 pitches through four innings. No? Well, it seems like it anyway.
   7. esseff Posted: July 06, 2014 at 03:52 PM (#4744753)
Gonzales is pulled after 4 2/3 innings in which he threw 109 pitches, gave up seven hits and five walks. And one run.

The Z-Man comes up big and makes it 2-1 Nats in the 8th.

Bang! Zooooom! Another series winning Curly W in the books!!!

"What the Orioles have here is a total failure of the bullpen." Crap! I checked the score when it was 6-1 Orioles, now that the Nats game ended it's tied 6-6. WTH??!! Talk about getting dinked and dunked to death! Against 4 pitchers by my count.

Jeter has 3 hits today against the Twins, giving him 3400 for his career - another small milestone on the Captain's final journey.
   12. boteman Posted: July 06, 2014 at 05:11 PM (#4744782)
What if Jeter decides not to retire???
   13. Joey B. Posted: July 06, 2014 at 05:26 PM (#4744785)
He should easily pass Cap Anson and end up a solid 6th on the all time list.

I don't care if he gets overrated by some people in the media or not; that's one hell of a career no matter how you slice it.

There are few 20-year MLB players, even fewer with just one team, much less single-team, consensus 1st ballot Hall of Famers with 20 years. Add in that no player has won more World Series since the advent of the three-tiered playoff system, and Jeter is a unique player. Quibbling about him getting "too much" praise is kind of silly, although a popular pastime here.

Jeebus, Ortiz just hit a ball all the way to the CVS sign in CF and tried to stretch it into a double. He failed. He was easily 10 feet away from the 2B bag when the throw came in. Eh, the Red Sox were only down a run, what's a measly additional out in extra innings??? 1 out, 2 outs, it's all pretty much the same thing after all.

edit: And the Orioles land in the WIN column. Now the big B-W Parkway showdown begins tomorrow night: 2 games in D.C. followed by 2 games in Bawlimer. Always a fun time for one of those cities.

Speaking of The Real Puig, the Dodgers broadcast just showed the dugout before going to commercial break after the top of the 8th inning. A. Gonzalez threw some sunflower seeds at Puig who did not react kindly whatsoever; then he threw another little something at him and he really took exception to that. Then they cut to commercial.

Is this an ongoing thing to mess with Puig like the way guys would rub Beltre's head? Or was this just a one-off incident?
   17. bigglou115 Posted: July 06, 2014 at 09:17 PM (#4744865)
@16 That's just a baseball thing, young guy gets interviewed the rest of the team throws stuff at him. Puig getting upset over that is like getting upset over the pie to the face bit, it only bothers you if you think your special.

Chris Sale didn't make the All-Star team. What a freaking joke.
   19. boteman Posted: July 06, 2014 at 10:57 PM (#4744905)
David Price has thrown like 22 pitches through 8 innings and he's up 7-2, so a satisfactory performance.
   20. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: July 06, 2014 at 11:08 PM (#4744908)
[18] But you can still vote for him in the final man ballot!
   21. boteman Posted: July 06, 2014 at 11:17 PM (#4744912)
I think Price threw more pitches in the 9th than he did the whole rest of the game. He's gone, here comes McGeeheehee.

Chris Sale didn't make the All-Star team. What a freaking joke.

He's missed over 30% of the season so far to date.... hard to really feel as if he got jobbed in it.
