At least the Dodgers can't lose today.

It's Monday so the Mets are wearing the worst-jerseys-in-sports again.

Hendricks continues to impress, 7 innings 3 hits (1hr) 1 run 2 walks 3 k's

JAVIER FREAKING BAEZ

Answering the question of what it would look like if a second baseman hit like Pete Incaviglia since 2014.

That ball was crushed. The OF moved all of 5 feet watching that one go.

Former Terp/Bullet/Congressman Tom McMillen in the front row at Nats Park. He's got a grey beard, wearing an orange shirt (Tom, that's a Cavs color!) and you'll know him when he leaves his seat to get a drink.

Looking at this lineup Arizona is running out there kind of makes me understand why Kirk Gibson has been losing his mind.
   8. boteman Posted: August 18, 2014 at 07:47 PM (#4774107)
Assdribble Cabrera takes a leg to his temple as he slid feet-first into 2B and walked off the field under his own power, but he definitely looked shaken up at first. Because the Nationals definitely need ANOTHER injured starter.

edit: Iron Man Cabrera stays in the game, back at his position covering 2B.

Just looked at the Cubs stats to see how fast Javier Baez is moving up the homer rankings.

Two notes:

Currently 3rd on the team in HRs is Mike Olt, who is 14th in hits and has been playing in Iowa for a month. The guy has 212 PAs, an amazingly terrible 26 hits, and 12 of them are homers.

Travis Wood is hitting .261/.306/.500 with 3 home runs. He has 9 career home runs! Picking up where Zambrano left off.

#7. Did you happen to see Cincy's lineup last night?

Wiiiiilsoooooon!

Buffalo!

Another of those Cardinals-favoring replay calls.

This guy Furbush has faced 2 batters and I'm already sick of him. Before every pitch it looks like he stands there motionless for 20 seconds. And half the time he spends an additional 20 seconds staring at the ground and shaking his head. Stop moping, dude! your team may be down 4-1 but at least YOU aren't getting charged with the loss.
   15. Crispix reaches boiling point with lackluster play Posted: August 18, 2014 at 09:42 PM (#4774154)
Ben Revere steals a base easily. Zunino had no chance with the throw. I have to think Furbush's catatonic antics helped Ben get a jump there.
   16. Snowboy Posted: August 18, 2014 at 09:44 PM (#4774156)
Watching Cespedes strike out again tonight (on an unhittable eye-high pitch) I'm wondering if he is hitting above the Mendoza line as a Red Sox? He seems terrible since the trade.
   17. Crispix reaches boiling point with lackluster play Posted: August 18, 2014 at 09:45 PM (#4774159)
Furbush has been replaced by Fernando Rodney. If nothing else, an upgrade in entertainment value!
   18. TerpNats Posted: August 18, 2014 at 09:53 PM (#4774167)
Nats have blown two late leads, and still have a chance for some walk-off magic. Not that most in D.C. will care, going up against a REDSKINS EXHIBITION GAME!

Meanwhile the Orioles have knocked out Sale and Norris has faced 18 batters through the first 6 innings.

Another of those Cardinals-favoring replay calls.

If a play gets overturned in a forest when nobody is around, does it make a sound?
   22. Crispix reaches boiling point with lackluster play Posted: August 18, 2014 at 10:07 PM (#4774183)
Great start from prospect Jerome Williams in his second start for the Phillies. Oh wait, this is the Jerome Williams who wowed Giants fans in 2004, in tandem with fellow rookie Noah Lowry. What is he doing here? Is there nobody in Reading or Allentown who could be trying his luck in the majors?
   23. boteman Posted: August 18, 2014 at 10:17 PM (#4774191)
Craig "Houdini" Stammen just got himself in a bases-loaded, no out jam, then wriggled out of it with 2 Ks and a groundout to end the D-backs 10th. I'm gettin too old for this sh|t.
   24. Snowboy Posted: August 18, 2014 at 10:17 PM (#4774192)
What is he doing here?

   25. DKDC Posted: August 18, 2014 at 10:21 PM (#4774196)
Just when it looks like Norris is going to wiggle out of a jam, he makes a bad 0-2 pitch and White Sox cut the lead to 1 run.

Edit: and then Norris gives up a back-breaking 2 run HR.....that Nick Markakis pulls back over the fence!!
   26. Jolly Old St. Nick Is A Jolly Old St. Crip Posted: August 18, 2014 at 10:24 PM (#4774199)
And Markakis snatches a would-be go-ahead home run to preserve the lead.
   27. Joey B. Posted: August 18, 2014 at 10:26 PM (#4774201)
LaRoche destroys one to give us another walkoff!! Unbelievable!!!
   28. Bourbon Samurai Posted: August 18, 2014 at 10:26 PM (#4774202)
whooooo! I haven't watched as many games as usual this year, what with the tiny baby and all, but I have seen all 3 walk offs i a row!
   29. TerpNats Posted: August 18, 2014 at 10:27 PM (#4774203)
OMG -- three straight walk-offs!
   30. TerpNats Posted: August 18, 2014 at 10:28 PM (#4774204)
To all you folks watching a football game that doesn't count...the joke's on you.

ERIK KRATZ HIT A HOMER FOR THE ROYALS

Great day for the Phillies they won, and this guy won.
   32. Los Angeles El Hombre de Anaheim Posted: August 18, 2014 at 10:38 PM (#4774210)
Angels drag themselves past the Red Sox for a win. They were pretty much outplayed the whole game — 16 base runners allowed, yuck — but the Sox just couldn't be bothered to push that big run across to put them ahead. I'll take the win, though. Oakland's got the night off, so this 73rd win means the Angels are in first place all by themselves.
   33. DKDC Posted: August 18, 2014 at 10:44 PM (#4774212)
Huge insurance runs for the O's on Schoop bases-clearing double.

6-2 O's.

Edit: and 2 more runs off a Markakis HR!
   34. Jolly Old St. Nick Is A Jolly Old St. Crip Posted: August 18, 2014 at 10:44 PM (#4774214)
And this Markakis guy can hit a bit himself.
   35. greenback calls it soccer Posted: August 18, 2014 at 11:27 PM (#4774226)
It still amazes me that managers are such slaves to the save rule that Aroldis Chapman isn't allowed to pitch when a road game is tied in extra innings.
   36. Jolly Old St. Nick Is A Jolly Old St. Crip Posted: August 18, 2014 at 11:39 PM (#4774235)
The Orioles now have 6 men in the bullpen with ERA+ numbers ranging from 113 to 332 and 404, without a single one of them in the top 10 in number of innings pitched for a relief pitcher. Talk about Deep Depth.

Didn't he have a 30-pitch meltdown Sunday?

How will the Nats get the walk-off win 2-day!?1!
