Marlins all-time HR leaders:
Dan Uggla 154
Giancarlo Stanton 150
Hanley Ramirez 148
Mike Lowell 143

BJ Upton is, in fact, available.

I just returned from a trip to Newfoundland. (Yes, people actually live there, and they are incredibly nice and friendly.) During my 2 hour layover at a bar near my gate in Montreal Trudeau airport nobody attacked me for wearing my Washington Nationals cap. Therefore, baseball will never return to Montreal.

Also, there are too many shapely young females wearing painted-on yoga pants to airports. A man has a limited blood supply.

That is all.

So Bartolo Colon passed through waivers and I just read a very brief article that speculated his salary is too much for the Angels because of his age. He's 41 and makes 11 million next year. How can the Angels NOT trade for him???

@KevinMcAlpin: Braves have shut down Jonny Venters w/soreness after throwing on trip. He will visit with Dr James Andrews again in Pensacola.

I had forgotten about him. Elbow soreness, so they're saying he aint coming back this season.

Lucas Duda has hit 12 homers since the ASB. He has only hit one double.

Did the league hire replacement umpires and not tell anyone or something?

Cardinals like to make all the scrubs look like the second coming of Nolan Ryan... Gerrit Cole trying to get his first game in which Ryan has 7.

... Gerrit Cole is not a scrub.

1 out and bases loaded. Line drive at Rollins, and Wilson Ramos manages to jump back to second to prevent the double play. THAT COULD BE KEY

Well on the bright side, the Mess knocked off the Cobb County Cornpones, sooo, 24.

Another win! Papelbon's post-game interviews continue to be inexplicable.

Prepare to be swept, Nationals!

Ha, I was in Seattle this past weekend and saw a guy get hassled for wearing OKC gear.

if you are going to let clint barmes bat in a tie game you are preparing for the game to remain tied

O's dink-and-dunk a 3-2 lead.

Giles is something for the Phils to build on in '15.

Yay Mets! The victories, they are small, but still victories.
   21. boteman asks Where's My Ring? Posted: August 26, 2014 at 10:27 PM (#4779708)
ESPN Baseball Tonight just showed Giancarlo Stanton swinging at ball 5 low and away for the K instead of taking his base. They were definitely pitching around him, but he helped them out.

Also, as this is the first time I've had the displeasure to watch Baseball Tonight in centuries, I can report that it is still a huge waste of electrons.

It's so perverse that the Mariners are supposed to be the game of the night on the MLB Network, but here in Mariners country there's no way for me to actually watch it.

The game of the night is Marlins-Angels, with M's-Rangers as the backup. (A check here in Los Angeles shows that's indeed the game we're getting.)
   24. DKDC Posted: August 26, 2014 at 10:50 PM (#4779716)
Chris Davis has been a darn decent 3B so far.
   25. Misirlou's got a job, but it don't pay Posted: August 26, 2014 at 10:54 PM (#4779717)
4 more K's for Baez tonight. I continue to be optimistic, but that's 40 in 90 PAs. Yikes!! With 4 walks and 7 HR, he's over the 50% TTO threshold.

Looking forward to Soler tomorrow.
   26. TerpNats Posted: August 26, 2014 at 11:15 PM (#4779723)
Dodgers continue their D'back domination with a ridiculous six-run fourth, their biggest this year (currently 8-2). Arizona looks pathetic, and if La Russa doesn't dismiss Gibson once the season is done, it'll be because the owner won't let him.
   27. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: August 26, 2014 at 11:18 PM (#4779724)
Chris Davis has been a darn decent 3B so far.

That barehanded force play at the plate Davis made in the 6th was Mannyworthy. He practically had to throw the ball right through Loney to get the ball to Joseph, and even after seeing several replays I can barely believe he did it.

And the three Rays who were cut down at the plate tonight represented the difference between winning and losing. The Orioles may sometimes get shut down by great pitching, but they almost never beat themselves.
   28. Spahn Insane, D0ngwr@ngler Posted: August 26, 2014 at 11:19 PM (#4779725)
Rizzo left the game with lower back tightness. Any prognosis?

Mike Trout with his first 3-hit game in over two weeks.

But holy cow, when he makes contact, he just hits laser beams. I was in Wrigley on Saturday when he hit one: just a screaming line drive to right field. One of the sweetest hits I think I've ever seen.

Either way, they can't show the game that people actually want to watch around here. I know why, but it pisses me off.

Anyhoozy, there's a no-hitter alert in San Francisco.

Brewers CS twice for the 3rd out through T5th.

Perfect game alert ?
   34. Baldrick Posted: August 26, 2014 at 11:53 PM (#4779740)
I almost went to the Giants games tonight! We decided to go tomorrow instead.

And I was at the Cain perfect game a couple years ago. Dang.
   35. Random Transaction Generator Posted: August 26, 2014 at 11:58 PM (#4779744)
I'll ask again...

Why the #### are the Blue Jays even bothering to put Sergio Santos into a game?
He is unbelievably terrible this year. Just cut him.

August can not end fast enough for the Jays.
6-16 for the month.

They went from 4 games under .500 on May 3rd, to 14 games over .500 on June 6th, to .500 on August 26th.
   36. Spahn Insane, D0ngwr@ngler Posted: August 27, 2014 at 12:08 AM (#4779748)

That was pretty impressive--he hit a 96-MPH fastball a couple inches outside on a line about 390 feet.

I've gotta think he's going to get the Ks under control enough to be a pretty damn productive hitter.

I saw a gal in Costco wearing skintight black yoga pants, but she also had a skintight skirt to cover her tush.

Disclaimer, Clearwater, wasn't remotely the hottest lass in the store.
   38. Baldrick Posted: August 27, 2014 at 12:21 AM (#4779751)
Morneau with a double. Top of the 8th. Six outs away.
   39. Crispix reaches boiling point with lackluster play Posted: August 27, 2014 at 12:22 AM (#4779752)
Well, 1 minute into Baseball Tonight's live coverage of the perfect game, it was broken up. Back to the wisdom of Alex Cora in the studio.
   40. Crispix reaches boiling point with lackluster play Posted: August 27, 2014 at 12:25 AM (#4779754)
And now Michael McKenry has a chance to hit a 2-run homer and make Bumbarner a loser.

Wait, Michael McKenry is hitting fifth?
   41. Tom Nawrocki Posted: August 27, 2014 at 12:25 AM (#4779755)
They cut away from the game before Morneau got to second.

Seems to be an increasing trend.
I can honestly say it makes my blood boil, but... not in a bad way.

I just realized that I've been seeing less and less of the argument that Wainwright should get the Cy Young Award over Kershaw around here lately.
