1. Joey B. is counting the days to Trea Turner Posted: June 06, 2014 at 03:54 PM (#4720560)Hey, Jimmy Key doesn't visit the booth very often, and the 25th anniversary of the opening of SkyDome doesn't happen very often either. I'd like to hear more about how the ump has a very generous strike zone tonight (up'n'down, and a little bit side to side also) and Lance Lynn is working those edges, and the Jays hitters are obliging by swinging...but it's just one game. By next week they'll be back to droning, but meanwhile I kinda liked the George Bell two Big Macs reminisce.
The Cardinals strengths have been failing them as of late.
I have yet to see a decent camera angle showing it hit the ground. (of course I've yet to see a decent angle on the play yet, four replays and not one of them was decent)
And then the Blue Jays show why they were running on that count as a single was hit to right field, (which would have been a line out if normal defense) and the runner advances to third, he absolutely would not have made it to third if he wasn't running.
It's the 2014 early season Cardinals... the game is already put to bed. I don't think they know how to score runs after the 6th inning.
On the Blue Jays broadcast, both Martinez and Tabler were saying (before the foul ball) Pillar should be running on the full count for exactly the reasons you explained.
When he did (and it worked), they said "and that's why you do it".
I think the Jays coverage (on TV with Martinez/Tabler specifically) has definitely gotten better since last year.
The most PAINFUL thing to listen to is the radio coverage when the colour guy (Siddall) is replaced by Duane Ward.
I love him as a Blue Jay, and thank him for all his successes as a player for my favourite team, but OH MY GOD is he terrible as a colour guy.
He has about 5 different cliche statements, and he repeats them over and over again.
And if it isn't one of those, then it's mindless blathering about playing baseball the right way.
I've turned off the radio instead of listening to him.
Not everyone in the stands is cheering for the Blue Jays?
Maybe not, but I imagine the kid wearing the Blue Jay cap is cheering for the Blue Jays.
Didn't see the baseball cap at first, but did see the red shirt.
He wasn't going to catch the ball, he was too tentative because of the wall and had already pulled away, the fan didn't affect the flight of the ball, didn't make contact with him, and once again, HE WAS A BLUE JAY fan.
That was a bad call, it wasn't a bad interpretation of the rules. Mistakes happen, I'm fine with them (and if the Cardinals had a real manager, that call would have motivated them to win game seven, instead of just throwing in the towel--because now we have a ready made pity party, which is the only thing that motivates Whiney Herzog) but when the interpretation of the rules goes against common sense, logic etc. then it's full on bullshit (I'll admit that the rules earlier in the season on what constituted a catch, were probably bigger bs calls)
Agree entirely. The Cardinals weren't going to come back, but I want all my opportunities.
edit - Cokes all around.
The Rockies challenged, charging that Kemp is not allowed to touch the first base coach. The umpires called Kemp out, since the contact was made before Kemp touched first. Never seen that before.
ex: Let's say on that Matt Kemp play that Kemp was challenged at second, and upon review found to be safe, but the umpires 'discover' he was touched at 1B. Will the umps call him out or safe?
I didn't see the game and only read the highlights, but why was Chen allowed to throw twice at Donaldson with no warning after this happened?
This kid was a nobody last year, and his peripherals still cause sabermetric types to dismiss him, but we're into June now and his 2.95 is the lowest on the entire Nationals' pitching staff. Free money for the Nats.
When did this happen?
Jason Lane, major league pitcher happened last week when he was called up for the first time.
In general, he started pitching 2011/12 in the minor leagues. He was a pitcher in college but he broke his thumb and converted to being a full-time position player.
Here's an article about Lane and Francoeur pitching in the minors.
Just missed an at-bat in the ninth, too.
It was so obviously a normal play that when Machado starts to get all huffy about it, you can see the umpire in the background with a smirk on his face, like he's thinking "You're getting upset about THAT?!"
I think he's a little bit of a hothead, but are teams maybe going after him a little bit because he's the A's best player?
