HOW WILL THE ANGELS WIN TODAY?!

Ready to reach .500!
   2. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 10, 2018 at 05:32 PM (#5741800)
Can Lester have a successful start with me in the building? Last 3 times I've seen him in person have been 3 of his worst starts for the Cubs. Pressure's on tonight, Jon.
   3. phredbird Posted: September 10, 2018 at 05:58 PM (#5741826)

HOW WILL THE CARDINALS REGRESS TODAY?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they might be able to get back on track. lately, the losses have been in very close games that they should have won given the talent level. it's time to get a few breaks.

so, yeah, this is just me trying the ol' reverse jinx.
   4. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 10, 2018 at 06:00 PM (#5741829)

Could you try wearing some sort of disguise tonight?
   5. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 10, 2018 at 06:19 PM (#5741843)
Do you mean something like pants?
   6. The Yankee Clapper Posted: September 10, 2018 at 07:02 PM (#5741868)
Nationals @ Phillies may not be played tonight because THEY LEFT THE TARP OFF THE FIELD ALL WEEKEND! It rained. Shouldn't someone be fired, or even the game be forfeited because of the home team's failure in its basic responsibility? The MASN announcers say they've been working on the field for 2.5 hours with Flame Throwers, with numerous officials hovering.

EDIT: MASN field level reporter, perhaps snooping, says they're not playing tonight. Problem is the field was soaked down to the clay, and applying the Diamond Dry compound just affects the top layer, which doesn't adhere to the clay. Two games tomorrow, so no forfeit, but weather it supposed to be poor, and putting the tarp on now keeps it from drying. #Clown shoes in Philly.
   7. The Yankee Clapper Posted: September 10, 2018 at 07:21 PM (#5741879)
Doubleheader starting at 3:00 PM tomorrow in Philadelphia, weather & field conditions permitting.

Jesus, Lions fans with a D attached to a fence... that has to be the most creative thing I have ever seen, besides those Hunter Pence doesn't... signs. But ok, whatever helps you win !

Go Tigers !
Go Grinders !

A's with an off-day, which is cool in order to relax a little before visiting the Almighty O's !
   9. The Yankee Clapper Posted: September 10, 2018 at 07:26 PM (#5741885)
Better news:
Coley Harvey, ESPN Staff Writer

Beautiful ballpark. Aaron Judge is currently taking live, on-field batting practice in Minnesota for the first time since his wrist injury. Just launched a couple way out over the batter's eye in center.

Fingers crossed.
   10. The Yankee Clapper Posted: September 10, 2018 at 07:30 PM (#5741887)
No Nationals, so am watching Astros @ Tigers until Yankees game starts. Soft-talking monotone of Kirk Gibson is a difficult listen. Bring back the homicidal maniacs!
   11. salvomania Posted: September 10, 2018 at 08:07 PM (#5741905)
Soft-talking monotone of Kirk Gibson is a difficult listen.

I was listening to him for the first time this past weekend, and he sounds like someone who had a stroke. Has he had a stroke?
   12. Count Vorror Rairol Mencoon (CoB) Posted: September 10, 2018 at 08:15 PM (#5741908)
Why do I fear another bases loaded mis-adventure here?

[edit] Well, Andujar took care of that possibility.
   13. Yonder Alonso in misguided trousers (cardinal) Posted: September 10, 2018 at 08:25 PM (#5741911)
Is that a drain cover or something a few behind and to the right (from the catcher's POV) of the mound in the Twins' park? It's round and less than foot across. The chance of a batted ball hitting it seems pretty low, but the chance of a fielder tripping over the edge a bit higher.
   14. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: September 10, 2018 at 08:30 PM (#5741912)
Oh Gary Gary Gary.
   15. Count Vorror Rairol Mencoon (CoB) Posted: September 10, 2018 at 08:32 PM (#5741913)
Good to see Sanchez in regular form ... c'mon man.
   16. Count Vorror Rairol Mencoon (CoB) Posted: September 10, 2018 at 08:37 PM (#5741915)
Oh Gary Gary Gary.

At least it wasn't a DP ...
   17. Count Vorror Rairol Mencoon (CoB) Posted: September 10, 2018 at 08:44 PM (#5741916)
WTF is GLEYBER! hitting 8th?!?!?!?
   18. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 10, 2018 at 08:52 PM (#5741918)
Lester ain't got it today. Brewers hitting ropes all over the place.

My bad.
   19. Count Vorror Rairol Mencoon (CoB) Posted: September 10, 2018 at 08:52 PM (#5741919)
Johnny Field is a ... good baseball name.
   20. salvomania Posted: September 10, 2018 at 08:53 PM (#5741920)
Love the guy, but Wainwright really shouldn't be out there right now in a meaningful game.

It might be a hose that's rolled up under a metal cover to water the infield.
   22. Count Vorror Rairol Mencoon (CoB) Posted: September 10, 2018 at 08:54 PM (#5741922)
Gritner!

Now ... score some damn runs.
   23. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 10, 2018 at 08:58 PM (#5741927)

Parkinson’s, I think.

Lester ain't got it today. Brewers hitting ropes all over the place.

My bad.
Tell you what, I’ll make you a deal. Leave the park right now, walk over to Butcher’s Tap on Southport, watch on TV as the Cubs come back, and I’ll pay your tab. Just tell them to take it out of my check for next Friday.
   25. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:19 PM (#5741934)
The Reds are about to implode in a very big way against the Dodgers.
   26. Meatwad Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:21 PM (#5741936)
Anyone other than almora would have been safe there. This is getting frustrating to watch
   27. Meatwad Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:25 PM (#5741937)
Wtf was that russell.
   28. My name is Votto, and I love to get blotto Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:26 PM (#5741938)
Harold Reynolds was in full “walks lot up the bases” mode earlier, talking about what good is getting on base if you’re not fast enough to come around on a base hit. That’s an argument I had not heard in a while!

   29. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:29 PM (#5741939)
Oof. Puig smokes a ball, but right at 3B for a double play with the bases loaded.
   30. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:30 PM (#5741941)
Cubs really made Miley work in the first, but they've all but undone that with these quick innings.
   31. Meatwad Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:37 PM (#5741942)
This would be a good time for murphey to go long.
   32. Meatwad Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:40 PM (#5741943)
Good time for bryant to go long.
   33. Meatwad Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:41 PM (#5741944)
Well at least its tied.
   34. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:42 PM (#5741945)
This poor command is just begging for a grand slam after Miley's forced to put one on a tee.
   35. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:43 PM (#5741946)
Sigh, I guess it's better than nothing, but the Cubs continue to make very little out of a lot.
   36. Meatwad Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:46 PM (#5741947)
Man javy is so good no matter position he is playing.

   39. Meatwad Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:53 PM (#5741951)
Lester leaves with the trainer. Is this to buy warm up time or a real issue? I suspect warm up time.
   40. Meatwad Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:57 PM (#5741952)
Bad edwards tonight
   41. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:57 PM (#5741953)
Well, who had "one" for the number of pitches it would take for Edwards to blow it?
   42. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:58 PM (#5741954)
lol, bullpen continues to be a dumpster fire.
   43. Bote Man Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:58 PM (#5741955)
And here I was just about to ask if Carl's Jr. is the best choice in this spot.
   44. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:59 PM (#5741956)
How much you want to bet we see a double-super-stall mound visit here?
   45. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:59 PM (#5741957)
And here I was just about to ask if Carl's Jr. is the best choice in this spot.

Generally yes, but he's been Carl(os) Marmol Jr. for a bit now.
   46. Misirlou doesn't live in the restaurant Posted: September 10, 2018 at 09:59 PM (#5741958)
I've had enough of the Carl's Jr. experience. I've seen this show before (Marmol), and it doesn't end pretty.
   47. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:00 PM (#5741959)

His control definitely has not been Hardee.
   48. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:01 PM (#5741960)
CJ is broken. I am sad.

Doesn't cover home on wold pitch, doesn't see the guy take second without even throwing a pitch.
   49. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:02 PM (#5741961)
You're on the hook for Edwards, too, Moses. Should've taken my offer while you had the chance.
   50. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:03 PM (#5741963)
Saw a white tshirt with the blue w. Was that you moses? Guy had a beard and glassed.

No beard and no glasses. So no. Also, almora is fast this year, I posted it about it.

I'd take you up on that Elroy if I wasn't here with my dad.
   51. Meatwad Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:04 PM (#5741964)
This would be a good time for any damn cubs player to go long.
   52. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:05 PM (#5741965)
He's going to write you out of the will if you got Lester seriously injured.
   53. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:07 PM (#5741966)
Cubs have that 2017 NLCS vibe to them this last week.
   54. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:08 PM (#5741968)
FINALLY!!! ABOUT ####### TIME!

Sanchez breaks the ice with a LOOONNNNG shot that makes it 1-0 Yanks.
   55. Count Vorror Rairol Mencoon (CoB) Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:10 PM (#5741969)
Now, if he'd only hit STRIKES like that ...
   56. Bote Man Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:11 PM (#5741970)
How'd you like to be in baseball and be Corbin Burnes' son??
   57. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:13 PM (#5741971)
Willson swinging for the fence. No one told him he doesn't have power anymore.

Wind is kinda blowing in so not sure we'll see a homer today. Brewers hit 2 in the second that would have been gone on a no wind night. No Brewers could hit a homer to lf in bp. Thames sqeaked a couple to right, but just barely.
   58. Meatwad Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:15 PM (#5741972)
Gotta hope for something.

No one but Javy and Rizzo have power anymore, so I don't think the wind matters.

Willson's shittiness behind the plate is a lot less tolerable when he's hitting like Paul Bako.

When did the Cubs pick up Professor Farnsworth???
   61. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:19 PM (#5741975)
Injured back for Lester.

Trust me, Kyle Farnsworth was no professor.

Hate this stupid nonrule that let's them change after the warmups. So dumb.
   65. Meatwad Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:26 PM (#5741979)
Wait what they can change pitchers at the start of the inning without having the replacement be the one warming up? Thats some bs.
   66. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:28 PM (#5741980)
I think Kyle could've done that.
   67. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:28 PM (#5741981)
Yeah. That crap is proof that they don't really care at all about pace of play. At least get rid of the dumbest of the dumb.
   68. Meatwad Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:32 PM (#5741982)
It makes no sense for a pitcher to wamr up only to be replaced without throwing a ####### pitch. If nothing else that is against the spirit of the rules.
   69. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:32 PM (#5741983)
So who stars in the Josh Hader Story movie? Pimply-faced high-school white supremacist grows 8 inches while gaining 5 pounds, discovers he can suddenly throw 97 MPH, gets a bunch of tats, and goes on to fame and fortune.
   70. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:33 PM (#5741984)

Moses, requesting permission to say that if they give up a run here, a 4-2 lead might as well be 100-2.
   73. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:44 PM (#5741989)
Wait! Wait! Joe, I take #72 back. I didn't mean it! This game isn't over yet - don't get the Duensing-Kintzler Syndrome up in the pen!
   74. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:48 PM (#5741990)
Hader looks kind of like Aroldis Chapman.

I mean mechanically. Settle down, Josh.
   75. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:51 PM (#5741992)
Cubs might as well be swinging pool noodles.
   76. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:54 PM (#5741994)
Or ramen noodles. At least they could eat them on the way back to the dugout.
   77. phredbird Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:55 PM (#5741995)

oh mama, matt adams with 3-run bomb to put the cards up 7-6 in the 8th.

they were looking pretty lethargic after letting the bucs pull ahead 6-4 ...

   78. phredbird Posted: September 10, 2018 at 10:58 PM (#5741996)
huh, now bader lofts a long fly ball out to right, it's caught, but ozuna is on 3rd and he tags up and scores ... not a smart move, pirates.

but we'll take it.

Moses, requesting permission for negative remark regarding Justin Wilson.

OK, so I concede he's been pretty good the last couple of months. I think my problem with him, aside from his awful stint last year, is that he takes a ####### of pitches to get through his appearances, whether he allows any runs or not.

Kintzler? So, Joe is conceding the game and just focusing on the Wild Card?
   84. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: September 10, 2018 at 11:04 PM (#5742002)
Elroy, no to both.

Sorry.
   85. phredbird Posted: September 10, 2018 at 11:05 PM (#5742003)

martinez comes in, gets the first out, next batter dribbles it up the middle but dejong throws it in the dugout.

come on come on come on ....

EDIT: Huh. That was surprising.
   89. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: September 10, 2018 at 11:25 PM (#5742011)
But that wasn't. Yep, might as well have been 100-2.

Hey now, I held Lester to 3 runs. I have no power over the anemic offense.

if you hadn’t gotten Lester hurt, Edwards wouldn’t have come in and fired a Lester pickoff throw for his first pitch.
