Amusing:
Tim Kurkjian, @Kurkjian_ESPN

The Mets once hired Razor Shines as their third base coach, a job that includes sending runners home. And yet, Shines had 81 plate appearances in his major league career, but never scored a run. #bestofalltim

More Tim:
Tim Kurkjian, @Kurkjian_ESPN

During a 12-day stretch in 2008, Jose Reyes was thrown out stealing by all three Molina brothers. #bestofalltim

Mets seem to be over-represented in these anecdotes.

Back when Razor first came up, I got a kick out of the Expos having both Raines and Shines. Yes, I am easily amused.

definitely one-upped by that 1998 Reds OF of (from left to right) Young, Frank, and Stynes

I only remember Shines for his 80 name tool. He was the best Razor in Canada even when Razor Ruddock was fighting.

Chase Utley reactivated in time for tonight's Dodgers-Mets game at CitiField.

so a drunk, angry, bitter, bloodthirsty Noo Yawk crowd can be expected to warmly applaud the plucky Utley's return.

Oh wow, a Liam in baseball. Finally !
   8. Howie Menckel Posted: June 22, 2018 at 06:54 PM (#5698193)
The Dodgers had planned to have Kershaw face a Triple-A lineup in Omaha tomorrow. but because the game is likely to be rained out, the Dodgers have announced that Kershaw instead will face the Triple-A lineup of the Mets at CitiField. seems like a fair tradeoff.

Let's go Grinders !

BREAKING NEWS!!!! SOMEONE OTHER THAN ALCIDES ESCOBAR IS STARTING AT SHORTSTOP FOR THE ROYALS TONIGHT!!!!

(Don’t worry. Esky is still in the lineup. Yost has just moved him to the outfield. Gotta keep that bat in the lineup.)

Joey Bats now has a .435 OBP for the Mets

   14. Walt Davis Posted: June 22, 2018 at 07:48 PM (#5698211)
That wasn't the best-timed walk I've ever seen.
   15. Walt Davis Posted: June 22, 2018 at 07:54 PM (#5698215)
More of a dead cat walk -- BB rate over 25%, time to see how batting practice fastballs go.
   16. Jay Seaver Posted: June 22, 2018 at 08:12 PM (#5698216)
NO WHAT ARE YOU DOING VAZQUEZ YOU'RE A CATCHER!!!

(Mildly disappointed that the rest of the Red Sox/Mariners game isn't going to match the first inning for insanity)
   17. Howie Menckel Posted: June 22, 2018 at 08:16 PM (#5698218)
the Mets continue to rack up milestones!

TV crew just told us that of the 29 teams to ever start a season 11-1, the Mets' record in their next 60 games - 20-40 - is the worst.

I'd like to see whose record they broke, and by how much
   18. cardsfanboy Posted: June 22, 2018 at 08:19 PM (#5698220)
Tommy Pham just got ejected.... he was struck out on a non-borderline pitch(it was a ball, no doubt about it) , that was inside, and then he went into the dugout, and then watched the video, and got pissed and started jawing with the ump, and the ump quickly tossed him.
   19. cardsfanboy Posted: June 22, 2018 at 08:21 PM (#5698221)
Man on third, no out.... to start the game... and going to the bottom half of the inning, the score is still 0-0....
   20. Jay Seaver Posted: June 22, 2018 at 08:23 PM (#5698223)
I think we can be pretty sure the knuckleball isn't working tonight. You may remove the pitcher, Cora, no more research is necessary.
   21. salvomania Posted: June 22, 2018 at 08:24 PM (#5698224)
he was struck out on a non-borderline pitch(it was a ball, no doubt about it) ,

It was a pretty terrible call, and on the replay you can see Pham staring directly down at the inside edge of the plate as the ball passes by, as if noting that it was clearly in off the plate, hence his surprise at the (delayed, even) called strike three.
   22. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 22, 2018 at 08:25 PM (#5698225)
Belated but I love javy like he's one of my sons.

Nelson Cruz having himself a pretty nice week tonight through four innings in Boston...
   24. rconn23 Posted: June 22, 2018 at 08:27 PM (#5698227)
I do not understand why Ryan Yarborough is so hard to hit.

honestly, that is the call a guy makes who has recently found out his wife was having sex with the batter, and decided that he was going to screw him over, as much as the batter was screwing his wife, then you add the short hook on the ejection....and I'm positive Pham is doing the umps wife and daughter.
   26. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 22, 2018 at 08:33 PM (#5698233)
What TF blue, that wasn't a strike ! Yes it was, Pham loverboy !

No, it wasn't ! Pretty sure it was, cheaterboy !

Don't call me that, it sounds like Jeter ! You are Ejaculated !

Oh Cum On !!!
   27. Jess Franco Posted: June 22, 2018 at 08:38 PM (#5698234)
Justin Turner is a pretty good third baseman.

Fowler really needs to get his #### together. .

Is this an empirically confirmed phenomenon? Seems like a splatter would be the more likely result.
   32. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 22, 2018 at 08:46 PM (#5698240)
Diego Castillo... wow, the Rays are really pumping on their last windmills, no ?!

Stanton and Judge are sometimes really hard to watch, Hunter Pence painful.
At least Judge got a walk.

Gotta feel bad for Wheeler there, but you want to avoid loading the bases for a guy who owns you.

WTF Sabathia, you glove-flippin-sexy-dude-with-glove-flippin-issues !

I can't even be mad at Sabs anymore, he is so old and Zito-esque.

Oh Judge !
   40. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 22, 2018 at 09:03 PM (#5698252)
The good thing about those plays that Judge just made, it saves runs, and the Yanks are never out of a ballgame, unless it is like 12:1 !
Go Grinders !
   41. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 22, 2018 at 09:07 PM (#5698253)
Too bad Matt Duffy left the Giants, I always liked him as a player.
   42. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 22, 2018 at 09:11 PM (#5698255)
I am not even going to watch Padres @ Giants. I know how THAT ends.
Chase Headley hits 3 homeruns, drives in 17 runs and then HI5's Buster Posey.

No No No, but the Grinders should win !
   43. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: June 22, 2018 at 09:25 PM (#5698257)
Maybe they'll just not tell Wilson when the team plane is leaving and leave him in Cincinnati.
   44. Jay Seaver Posted: June 22, 2018 at 09:29 PM (#5698259)
The satisfied sound Eck made in the booth after Moreland followed JD Martinez's two-run homer with a triple was weird and adorable.
   45. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 22, 2018 at 09:43 PM (#5698262)
Very productive out, Giancarlo. Nice !
   46. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 22, 2018 at 09:45 PM (#5698263)
The Cubs seem to have forgotten this is the Reds they're playing.
   47. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 22, 2018 at 09:46 PM (#5698264)
So Didi has MJ-Beat it , as walk-up music ? Or Alvarado ? Or was the Rays' DJ a little cocky ?!

Maybe they'll just not tell Wilson when the team plane is leaving and leave him in Cincinnati.

Yeah, I'm just not seeing it. I know they're really depleted at the backend of the bullpen, but Wilson just seems like a guy who is perpetually working out of trouble. Or, rather, TRYING to work out of trouble.
   49. Jay Seaver Posted: June 22, 2018 at 10:01 PM (#5698266)
10-10 in Boston. This game is nuts, and anybody who complains when it winds up taking four hours needs to be slapped.
   50. Jay Seaver Posted: June 22, 2018 at 10:04 PM (#5698268)
12-10 Boston, still one out in the 7th, and J.D. Martinez is kind of a beast.
   51. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 22, 2018 at 10:11 PM (#5698269)
Holy crap, it's Sergio Romo !
   52. rconn23 Posted: June 22, 2018 at 10:11 PM (#5698270)
So it turns out Seattle is not that good. Shocking.
   53. Tom Nawrocki Posted: June 22, 2018 at 10:16 PM (#5698273)
Nolan Arenado homers for the fourth straight game, capping a six-run fourth inning that puts the Rockies up 7-1.
   54. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 22, 2018 at 10:18 PM (#5698274)
Twas nice to know you, Romo ! Have fun in retirement !
   55. Howie Menckel Posted: June 22, 2018 at 10:19 PM (#5698275)
some poor bastard named Mitch Walding (not a pitcher) bats for the Phillies with them up 12-2 in the 9th

his MLB ABs so far are: K K K K K K K

count is 1-0 2-0 2-1 2-2 3-2 .... and then mercifully, a walk
   56. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 22, 2018 at 10:19 PM (#5698276)
#### you, Sergio Soto Romo Crapo !
   57. rconn23 Posted: June 22, 2018 at 10:21 PM (#5698277)
The Yankees offense falls flat again.
   58. cardsfanboy Posted: June 22, 2018 at 10:22 PM (#5698278)
So it turns out Seattle is not that good. Shocking.

I have Seattle in my fantasy baseball league and am in first place.... so they seem to be pretty good for at least helping me win my fantasy baseball league.... :)
   59. cardsfanboy Posted: June 22, 2018 at 10:44 PM (#5698282)
Flaherty still pitching pretty good, after the ace of the staff #### the bed yesterday, we kinda needed this.
   60. cardsfanboy Posted: June 22, 2018 at 10:45 PM (#5698283)
Damnit, Flaherty allowed his first hit of the game, and it was a homerun.... the Cardinals offense needs to pull him out a win.

Note: I have been only half ass watching the game tonight.... I literally did not know he had a no hitter going when I posted in 59.... I was just enjoying the shutout (I'm working a new job online so my attention is distracted while I was doing stuff)
   61. Drexl Spivey Posted: June 22, 2018 at 10:45 PM (#5698284)

Hey ZEUS! again, this time with the walk-off.
   64. cardsfanboy Posted: June 22, 2018 at 11:35 PM (#5698302)
you can't win if you don't score.

I'm sure that the idiots in St Louis will find someway to blame Matheny for the loss, but we didn't score runs... .a 2-1 loss is one of those situations in which the other team just played a bit better than you overall.
   65. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: June 22, 2018 at 11:47 PM (#5698308)
He's a fun dude. Said he was lucky on that slider he hit out.
   66. Edmundo got dem ol' Kozma blues again mama Posted: June 23, 2018 at 09:06 AM (#5698329)
Odubel Herrera has homered in 5 straight games. How he gets all that movement to come together and smack a baseball is hard to believe. Of course, he can look awful some times.

He's just more than halfway to Shane Victorino in WAR by Phillies Rule 5 player.

Getting one of those guys per decade is pretty good Rule 5ing.
   67. cardsfanboy Posted: June 23, 2018 at 09:57 PM (#5698587)
So who are some of the great rule five guys? I just looked at a list of the best of this decade and Herrera tops that list, and Bour is a fine addition.

and the Cardinals have had good luck with a few guys in minor roles (Bowman in 2016) but by near definition, a rule five guy is rarely going to be an impact player, but you can still sometimes get a solid player (the Cardinals have lost something like three decent relievers to the rule five in the past decade, almost all of them went to the Padres)
   68. cardsfanboy Posted: June 23, 2018 at 10:01 PM (#5698589)
Just reading some history, Hack Wilson was a rule five pick, that is a pretty good pick. (Apparently rule five has been around in one form or another since 1892, and was actually called rule five as of 1941)

Roberto Clemente is probably the greatest rule five player of all time though. Johan Santana is another one that was pretty good.
   69. cardsfanboy Posted: June 23, 2018 at 10:03 PM (#5698591)
Here is a wikipedia list of notable rule five draftees. Some of those names ended up being returned to the original team (like Bobby Bonilla)
   70. JJ1986 Posted: June 23, 2018 at 10:12 PM (#5698592)
Josh Hamilton was a Rule 5 guy. Joakim Soria too. And Marwin Gonzalez more recently.
