OMNICHATTER for 4-23-2013

The OMNICHATTER, in ALL CAPS.
Anyway, today is filled with questions, but the biggest one is: Will either the Twins or Rockies actually be able to play for a change?

Would really have liked if Ichiro had done that shoot an arrow celebration that Rodney does.

I hated how much I enjoyed that picture.

Justin Upton has a .507 ISO right now.

The Upton brothers taking over where the Jones brothers left off.

Mo ain't mo anymore.

Damn, Longo. That didn't take long.
   211. Cowboy Popup Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:01 PM (#4424032)
That was a long HR off Mo. Not good.
   212. Gamingboy Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:01 PM (#4424033)
Evan Longoria is not impressed by him.
   213. RollingWave Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:01 PM (#4424034)
Was this Phil Hughes pitching like a stud or was this the Rays hitting like a dud?

Can't believe Price is getting an L for this effort
   214. Esoteric Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:03 PM (#4424036)
So I'm thinking I should just start following the Orioles more closely until the Nats get their sh*t together and learn how to score some f*****g runs.

Was this Phil Hughes pitching like a stud or was this the Rays hitting like a dud?

I thought he looked really good. He was sitting 92, his revamped slurve or whatever looked good. His command was pretty good. And the ump was hurting him more than he was helping him. Definitely a promising start.
   216. Cowboy Popup Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:05 PM (#4424039)
A win! Against a lefty starter too! Yay!
   217. RollingWave Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:05 PM (#4424040)
Evan Longoria is not impressed by him.
too bad the guys behind him are hitting like .200 combined

The Cards have not swept a road series against the Expos/Nats since 1969. 1969! Going for the sweep tomorrow.

Wow. That's an amazing stat, especially when you consider that the Cardinals have been often good and the Nats/Expos... not.

The Met bullpen sucks hard. Really hard.
   225. LA Podcasting Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:21 PM (#4424058)
Great catch by Baker on Hamilton's flyball. Looked fair, saved a run. I think he's hurt.
   226. Lassus Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:24 PM (#4424059)
Yes, Russlan, they do. Considering the random middle relievers doing well for random teams, how we have NO ONE who can shut ANYONE down is a real mystery.
   227. Eric J can SABER all he wants to Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:25 PM (#4424062)
A day after blowing a 2-run lead in extras, the Cubs take a 2-run lead in extras - only to bring Joey Votto to the plate as the winning run.

There's no way a team I knew wasn't going anywhere coming into the season should still be giving me this much heartburn.
   228. Brian White Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:25 PM (#4424063)
If the five runs in 5+ innings wasn't enough, I think walks to Jordan Schafer and Ramiro Pena are kind of a sign that its time to pull your starter.
   229. DA Baracus, Braves Intern Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:26 PM (#4424064)
Jean Segura hits his 2nd triple of the year. Kid got wheels.

Did he then steal 2nd?

I swear the first thing I thought was "Dusty Baker really doesn't want Billy Hamilton on his team, if he's doing that."
   232. Dock Ellis Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:37 PM (#4424072)

I had the same thought! Man his retreat to first is just so awesome. I love seeing things in Baseball that have never been done before.
   233. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:38 PM (#4424073)
Just saw the Boston - Oakland highlights. Aceves had quite an inning: 3 walks, 2 balks & failed to cover 1st. I think there might have been some hits, too.
   234. Dock Ellis Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:39 PM (#4424074)
yeah and 7 ####### earned runs. Oakland clobbered them tonight.
   235. Dock Ellis Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:40 PM (#4424075)
Also that must've been the worst day ever to see a game at Fenway. Cold, rainy, windy, and a total blowout performed by the visiting team.
   236. Lassus Posted: April 23, 2013 at 10:56 PM (#4424088)
Can we send all of our bullpen to the minors? Maybe Parnell can stay.
   237. smileyy Posted: April 23, 2013 at 11:00 PM (#4424091)
Apparently the rules of baseball have changed since the last time I watched a game:
http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/playbyplay?gameId=330423117

If they fix it by the time you look at it, it shows the Reds going up 3-2 in the bottom of the 9th, before losing 4-2 in the 10th. I assume the fielder's choice was the 3rd out and that the run didn't score?
   238. Brian White Posted: April 23, 2013 at 11:03 PM (#4424092)
Teheran threw 90 pitches, 70 strikes. Really impressive.
   239. spike Posted: April 23, 2013 at 11:04 PM (#4424094)
Teheran pitched a heck of a game tonight - 7ip 90 pitches, 70 strikes no walks one run. 8 hits, but he managed quite well with runners on.

//edited mistake
   240. puck Posted: April 23, 2013 at 11:09 PM (#4424098)
Geez, getting traded sure seems to have set off Justin Upton.

Even the 8 hits are deceiving. One was a chopper up the middle, one was a jam shot flair, a couple of ground balls that would have been easy outs if they were a few feet either way. Could easily have been a 4 hit 0 run game. He did an outstanding job keeping the ball on the ground, and grounballers are gonna have that problem sometimes.

Justin Upton, leading the majors in baseballs hit extremely hard.

Howie Kendrick with a bomb to straight-away center. Angels up early.

   246. CFBF Is The Victim of Unfathomable Pinheadery Posted: April 23, 2013 at 11:23 PM (#4424108)
I was beginning to think that Upton wasn't hitting enough non-home runs. He was like that kid in the Matt Christopher book about the kid who only hit home runs, Justin Upton.
   247. Baldrick Posted: April 23, 2013 at 11:25 PM (#4424110)
Justin Upton has 11 HR and only 16 RBI. Wow.
   248. Russlan thinks deGrom is da bomb Posted: April 23, 2013 at 11:33 PM (#4424115)
It takes grit to hit homers with men on base.
   249. DA Baracus, Braves Intern Posted: April 23, 2013 at 11:39 PM (#4424118)
A true leader would hit them with men on base.
   250. LA Podcasting Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 23, 2013 at 11:44 PM (#4424119)
Nelson Cruz just hit a long homer off Jason Vargas. Being a True Leader, he made sure there were two men on.
   251. flournoy Posted: April 23, 2013 at 11:48 PM (#4424120)
If B.J. Upton were a true leader, he would have stopped at third base after hitting his homer. That would have allowed his brother to pick up the RBI instead of B.J. hogging it for himself. Must run in the family.
   252. Mike A Posted: April 23, 2013 at 11:49 PM (#4424122)
Do you have to play an ad before every 30 second clip I want to watch, MLB?

According to the AJC, back-to-back brother HRs had only been done once before, by Lloyd and Paul Waner in 1938. J Upton also set an Atlanta Braves record with 11 HRs in April, besting the old mark of 10 by both Andres Galarraga and Ryan Klesko. That said, Upton has fallen well short of the Walt Weiss April grit record (IIRC, Weiss registered a 38 in April of 1998, besting Mark Lemke's 36 in 1992.)
   253. LA Podcasting Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 24, 2013 at 01:08 AM (#4424149)
Angels load the bases, and Pujols and Hamilton leave them stranded. That's a whole lot of dollars not working hitting right now.
   254. LA Podcasting Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 24, 2013 at 01:40 AM (#4424155)
Howie Kendrick gets his 2-homer game, Angels walk of with (finally) a win against Texas to wrap up this day's Chatter.
