Teheran vs Strasburg sounds like some geopolitical drama in German.

I'll actually be able to watch the Mariners game! As I age, I have a harder and harder time staying up for West Coast games if I'm not actually on the West Coast.

Texas (Nick Martinez) at Tampa

They sure are going to feel awkward when they get to the ballpark and realize they're facing the Yankees minor leaguers.

Let's see if Kyle Gibson can become the one Twins pitching prospect of the last 5 years who doesn't completely wet the bed once he makes it to the Majors.

In for the return of Pineda today.

Curious and very excited to see what he's got ...
   11. Bourbon Samurai Posted: April 05, 2014 at 01:23 PM (#4679919)
Just changed our cable provider and I seem to have extra innings without having paid for it. This is pretty great.
   12. Jim (jimmuscomp) Posted: April 05, 2014 at 01:24 PM (#4679920)
1) I don't like the Yanks, but I'm hoping Pineda is able to continue his career - even it's diminished a bit. He was exciting to watch when he was healthy.

2) Hoping Tyler Skaggs can go 5 or 6 and give up about 3 runs. If he could just muster a 4.50 ERA this year - that would be HUGE for LAAoA.

3) Albert Pujols has looked HORRIFIC thus far. I really hope he snaps out of it a bit. But he is doing his best "Furtado does late career R. Alomar" impersonation. (Toast)

4) Mike Trout is a monster.

And due to being busy I haven't really posted more than a couple of times since BBTF got back online and I'll just say that not having BBTF to read during opening season festivities was the WORST thing ever. It is true: You don't know what you got til it's gone.....

This is so weird--everything I've seen of him has been very positive. The ball is flying off his bat like chain lightning again!

(He runs the bases like he's carrying a piano on his bat, unfortunately, but he seems to be at least taking good at bats again.)

Daniel Murphy makes an astonishingly inept play on a pop-up (running towards RF, the ball actually falls behind him).

He should have stayed home with the new kid.
   20. puck Posted: April 05, 2014 at 02:25 PM (#4679948)
What's the story with Chris Owings at shortstop over Gregorius? Better bat?

Owings' minor league numbers look a lot better, so I am surprised to see their projections look so close (with ZIPS giving Gregorius the edge). Owings's year at AA looks poor, so maybe that explains the projection.

He's been pressing - I think. In ST the ball was flying off his bat, so I'll give you that. The last 2 weeks of ST he looked pretty good. But he is TRYING to do everything he can to hit right now. Trying too hard, it seems. He's swinging at balls after Trout is walked to get to him!

He seems to have zero confidence and is just working too hard.

Lots of GB's and weak contact.

I still think he can post a .350/.450 - but that seems to be the ceiling from what I'm seeing....

It was a bit freaky, watching a team giving Trout the unintentional intentional with the bases loaded to face Pujols instead.

Pujols hit some frozen ropes during the Mariner series. Didn't look good last night, but he's clearly healthier now than he was at any point last season. I think .375/.500 is very doable for him this season. Hamilton's started out hitting everything hard, so that's already a big fat plus for the Angels. If Pujols can get going (and the bullpen claws its way to league average), that'll go a long way towards the Angels contending.

Mariners doing a lot more hitting than I expected.
   39. Baldrick Posted: April 05, 2014 at 06:38 PM (#4680079)
The Mariners are now three games over .500 (4-1), and they were also three games over at 3-0. In the previous four years, they also had two days over being three games over .500 (June 3 and June 5, 2011). They have not been four games over .500 since the end of the 2009 season.

Maybe he should drop the bat when he starts running the bases then...
   42. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 05, 2014 at 07:24 PM (#4680092)
Tyler Skaggs' first start for the Angels is the team's most important game of the year thus far. Weaver and Wilson are solid, first starts notwithstanding, so if the Angels can count on Garrett Richards and Skaggs behind them to be good, that would be kinda sorta awesome.
   43. Bourbon Samurai Posted: April 05, 2014 at 07:26 PM (#4680093)

Josh Hamilton with his second homer in two days. Streaky hitter is streaky hot.
   52. Depressoteric feels Royally blue these days Posted: April 05, 2014 at 08:44 PM (#4680122)
I like the Mariners' playoff chances better than the Nationals'.
   53. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 05, 2014 at 08:49 PM (#4680124)
How is that possible? The Nats are in a division with the Phillies, Marlins and Mets. That's 40 wins right there.
   54. boteman Posted: April 05, 2014 at 08:59 PM (#4680125)
The Nationals are their own worst enemies the last couple games. Incredibly inept baserunning yesterday, a long rainbow lob from Zimmerman across the diamond leading to 2 unearned runs today. Plus Strasburg lost effectiveness the last 2 innings so now it's Barves 6, Nats 2. Plus plus, Teheran is not too shabby on the mound and even got a base knock off Stroudsbard.
   55. Joey B. has reignited his October #Natitude Posted: April 05, 2014 at 09:09 PM (#4680129)
Strasburg is the biggest motherf*cking p*ssy b*tch I've ever seen in my entire life. That is all.
   56. Publius Publicola Posted: April 05, 2014 at 09:28 PM (#4680135)
Strasbourg is really starting to annoy me. With the stuff he has, he shouldn't have innings like that. Ever.
   57. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 05, 2014 at 10:07 PM (#4680145)
A pretty good day for the Angels so far. They desperately need a #4 starter, and Skaggs delivered a really quality start, 8 IP, 4 hits, 1 BB, 5 Ks. The bottom half of the lineup smacked a bunch of hits. Let the bullpen finish off the 9th without incident, and it'll be a really good day.
   58. boteman Posted: April 05, 2014 at 10:16 PM (#4680146)
Unless my eyes deceive me, Jose Fernandez carried the Marlins to a 5-0 victory. And instead of going to/watching that, I've been watching the Nationals go meekly into that good night.
   59. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: April 05, 2014 at 11:00 PM (#4680155)
Dear Red Sox front office: It's OK to admit you made a mistake. You can just release Pierzynski right now and no one would blame you.

Brewers loaded the bases against Tazawa tied 6-6 in the top 10th, Lucroy pop fly out to Nava in RF. On to the bottom 10th.
   61. boteman Posted: April 05, 2014 at 11:03 PM (#4680157)
Dear gawd, did Grady Sizemore have a heart attack or something? I was wondering who was batting when the graphic put up his name. He looks really gaunt or--dare I say it--old.
   62. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: April 05, 2014 at 11:34 PM (#4680164)
A dozen years after he was first so awesome for the 2002 World Series Angels, K-Rod still looks great.
   63. puck Posted: April 06, 2014 at 12:15 AM (#4680174)
Charlie Blackmon got a hit in his first at bat today to get to seven straight hits. He then made an out, but finished 3-4 and thus 9 for 10 over the last two days.

The Diamondbacks appear to need more grit.
