Red Sox-Orioles is postponed, scheduled for a 1:05 start tomorrow (regular game tomorrow is at 7:05).

Uh oh:

"In Todd Helton, there's someone who's easy to look at his career here and how it played out. I have the utmost respect for Todd, but at the same time, I don't want to be the next in line as somebody who was here for a long time and didn't have a chance to win every single year," said Tulowitzki, reviewing the 17 years Helton spent as the face of a franchise that never won a division title. "He played in a couple postseason games and went to one World Series. But that's not me. I want to be somewhere where there's a chance to be in the playoffs every single year."

Rockies have lost 15 of 17.

Oh, Tulo. That's not something you want to say out loud.

Rockies have lost 15 of 17.

The Dodgers have done alright at winning games in Colorado in recent years, yet whenever they go there I still think of it as the Rockie horror show.

Does anyone know what happened to Jon Niese? Out of the game in the first.

He got hit in the back by a liner.

Andrew McCutchen misses the cycle by about 10'. He's 4 for 5 with 2 2Bs and a 3B tonight.

The Phillies are going to be 12 games under .500 after this game. My 75 win prediction is looking quite optimistic.

Jose Abreu just did his thing again. Now up to 281/331/632. He's the best hitter Chicago has had since Thomas, but he's doing it a completely different way. Frank was obviously better, but Jose might be more fun to watch, and I love me some Frank Thomas.

Puig didn't hit a homerun for the entire month of June? That is somewhat surprising, 5 rbi in the month, in which his team did pretty good, but he wasn't one of the driving forces it seems.

edit: apparently his team only went 14-14...so pretty good might have been over stating it.

The Dodgers went 18-10 in June. Check your facts before making your claims.

Horton is a ####### idiot.... he's still operating under the delusion that you cannot use a challenge after the 6th inning. Uggh...Yes you can, if you have one. The only difference is that if you have used your challenge, you can request a review at the umpires discretion...but if you have a challenge, you have to use that before the request option.

Somehow must have misread Puig's splits in June... the edit doesn't apply then.

Marlins screwed up by not reviewing a play in which Holliday was probably doubled off at first base.... Run scored, and now Holliday scored after being moved to third by a sf on what would have been the third out. Molina gives the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.
   14. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: July 04, 2014 at 09:09 PM (#4743689)
Big strikeout by Kershaw with a runner at third. Despite the rough start to the season, Kershaw has gotten his ERA below 2.

cardsfanboy, where do you get splits with team W/L in them? bb-ref has performance in wins vs. losses but not team record in monthly splits.

I was already in Puig's game logs, so I just summed them up...but must have looked at something wrong (it would have shown 17-10 in that case...not sure where the 14-14 that I thought I saw came from)

Generally I usually just go to the pitchers splits for the team and it will give me the win-loss in a month...but as I said, I was already in Puig's split so didn't bother looking.

edit: figured out what I did wrong, summed up May not June. (note: Dodgers were 15-15 in May....games in which Puig played was 14-14)

Hate to sound like the Cardinal announcers, but Neshek might actually be worthy of an all star slot (assuming you are from the school that evaluates all stars by just their current half season stats, and think there should be 5+ relievers on the team)

I wonder what team he's referring to.

The A's, obviously.

On a related note, looks like the first big summer trade is in the works....will there be a deal soon???
   20. Snowboy Posted: July 04, 2014 at 10:50 PM (#4743732)
They just announced the trade on the Mets broadcast: Smardzia AND Hammel to A's
   21. Der-K is at half whelm. Posted: July 04, 2014 at 10:59 PM (#4743736)
Details:
@keithlaw: Cubs/A's deal official. Samardzija and Hammel for Russell, McKinney, Straily, PTBNL.
   22. Dillon Gee Escape Plan Posted: July 04, 2014 at 11:02 PM (#4743738)
Cubs get McKinney, Russell, Straily and a PTBNL.

edit: Coke to Der-K.

Kershaw at 93 pitches through 8 so he's got an outside chance at a Maddux.

Edit: And they bring in a pinch hitter. In a 8-0 game, with 93 pitches thrown. Really?
