HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?

Joe Blanton's not pitching, so there's going to have to be another reason.

Hombre, I think yesterday's loss more has to do with the fact that Hyun-Jin Ryu was pitching for the Dodgers, rather than the fact Joe Blanton was for the Angels.

I would say "How might the Rays screw this up today?" but they're still letting Roberto Hernandez start for them so that question is easily answered. They did manage to survive Hellickson yesterday though so that's something.

Wtf

http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2013/05/29/dustin-pedroia-acknowledges-playing-through-torn-ucl-in-thumb/

Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia revealed Tuesday that he has been playing with a tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb.

In an interview with the Boston Herald’s Michael Silverman, Pedroia said he was told he had a complete tear. He injured the thumb sliding into first base in an Opening Day win over the Yankees, although he said it was impossible to determine if it could have been a pre-existing tear. Doctors told him he could play through the injury without risk of long-term damage as long as he could deal with the discomfort.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this.

Then again, I'm still kind of shocked from finding out yesterday that the Ramon Ortiz that's pitching for the Jays is, in fact, the one and only Ramon Ortiz. So I had gotten used to the idea that guys I thought retired six years ago are still pitching.

And he's grand slam short of hitting for the homer cycle.

I feel bad complaining en route to what looks like a Cubs victory, but Starlin Castro's last at-bat kind of encapsulates a lot of the complaints about his offensive stagnation. He swung at three pitches, one of which was a MILE off the plate. He grounded out weakly to short trying to pull a ball that was also on the outside of the plate. Up 9-3, it's not a huge deal, but it'd be tough for a player to look less interested in hitting than Castro just did. I get that in blowout games, there's less sense of urgency, but I kind of cringe when a player's approach at the plate is clearly correlated to the score. It would have been nice to see Starlin treat that low-pressure AB as an opportunity to, I don't know, be a little more selective with what he flails at.

I was wondering to myself at the start of tonight's game whether the Marlins have made it to 20 wins. They haven't even made it to 14 wins! So take solace in that.

In relation to my remark, it seems that El Hombre had a lot fewer ###### posts lately so maybe the Angels are turning it around, and I thought that maybe you were going to pick up where he left off. Without all the ##### of course.

Ryan Zimmerman is turning in a career-best performance tonight. 3-for-3, 3 home runs.

And he's spraying them all over Camden Yards to boot. One to the bullpen in left, one to the batter's eye in dead center, one to the Warehouse in right.

#60 - The beauty of MLB.tv and Extra Innings is that you can always flip to the other team's broadcast, unless they also choose to air a boring interview in the stands in lieu of showing the damned game.

With McLaughlin I might. I like Rickey and Al, but McLaughlin is just the absolute worst announcer in baseball, and it's not particularly close. Drawback is that FSMW has been outstanding this year with camera work, and defensive positioning that I'm afraid of other broadcasts.

7 home runs in Baltimore tonight. It seems to me that the ones hit by the Orioles just barely squeaked out of the park, but they still count.

#64 - Offense, natürlich!

When Roger Bernadina, he of the 143/211/229 line with 1 HR, hooks another homer onto Eutaw Street you KNOW that your offense is living on borrowed time. And then Danny Espinosa gets aboard courtesy of a throwing error. And Ryan Zimmerman has his first career 3-HR game.

This might very well end up being the high point of the Nationals' season. Maybe not now that they gave up the lead.

Tim Lincecum didn't stick to the scouting report; Yoenis Cespedes is hitting .333 this season against four-seam fastballs in that location.

And wouldn't ya know it, Cespedes triples in Coco Crisp.
