   301. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 05, 2018 at 11:24 PM (#5721514)
MLB should start marketing Yankees-Red Sox games to cricket fans. Seems like it would be a natural affinity.

2:33 Saturday, 2:15 Friday.

Just sayin’.

call me a softie, but I thought that letting Britton's Dad ump the bottom of the 7th was a nice family bonding moment. I found it inspiring for Dad to see his kid fail to throw 3 strikes to anybody - but Dad made it alright.

should be a an ABC Afterschool Special reboot....

Fake news. I didn't see either of those games.

Is anyone else astonished to find out that Shane Robinson and his career 65 OPS+ are still getting chances to play in the majors?

EDIT: Ah. According to ARod, he's "showing great grit." That explains it.
   306. The Yankee Clapper Posted: August 05, 2018 at 11:45 PM (#5721522)
We would have been spared the Shane Robinson experience if Clint Frazier hadn't had another concussion. Kid has had a lot of bad luck with injuries at times when he'd have MLB opportunities.
   307. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 05, 2018 at 11:48 PM (#5721523)
There really wasn't any better option than Shane Robinson? For example, Alfonso Soriano is presumably available.
   308. Chip Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:13 AM (#5721526)
“The conviction to throw that pitch.” A 3-2 hanging slider waist high. Thank god it was a shitty, slumping Brock Holt staring at it.
   309. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:14 AM (#5721527)
Um...Mookie? Could we chat for a minute? You're a great player, but - and I'm just making a suggestion here - maybe a beard isn't going to be your thing.
   310. rconn23 Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:16 AM (#5721529)
Tanaka could have been more efficient, but he was pretty damn good tonight. And he's really pitching well as of late.
   311. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:22 AM (#5721530)
From the looks of Chapman, it's about 110 degrees in Boston tonight.
   312. Chip Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:22 AM (#5721531)
“The hardest pitch to throw.” Romine set up low and outside, Chapman throws a cement mixer up and in, misses target by nearly 3 feet, gets bailed out.
   313. Jay Seaver Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:23 AM (#5721532)
Well, this is starting to get interesting.
   314. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:24 AM (#5721533)
this is kind of fun. And since I think Chapman is just human scum, always happy to see him fail.
   315. Jay Seaver Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:25 AM (#5721534)
J.D. Martinez is good.
   316. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:26 AM (#5721536)
ok, now Xander just needs to put up off the monster and we're done...
   317. Jay Seaver Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:27 AM (#5721537)
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
   318. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:27 AM (#5721538)
Well, that's justice. If the game is going to go 4 1/2 hours, there damn well should be extra innings involved. Now if we can just get to about the 13th in the next 20 minutes or so, we'll be right back on track.
   319. Chip Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:28 AM (#5721539)
Seriously, the Astros are getting roasted over Osuna and the Yankees have sought not once but twice to add this scumbag to their roster.
   320. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:28 AM (#5721540)
Oh my, NY literally throwing it away...

Andy must be sh*tting himself...

And they got a free Gleyber Torres for their efforts. (Grumble...)
   323. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:31 AM (#5721543)
Eh, and Moreland K's...as expected against Chapman there.
   324. Chip Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:31 AM (#5721544)
Moreland swings through another cement mixer. Chapman escapes the L.
   325. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:33 AM (#5721546)
Sorry, but I find watching Chapman implode to be an oddly calming viewing experience.

You must have achieved a zen state in Game 7 in 2016.

I tuned in from ######' Coram Montana to watch that 9th inning, and it was entirely worth it.

From the looks of Chapman, it's about 110 degrees in Boston tonight.

my 3/4th Irish nephew got married yesterday in the northeast, and my 100 pct on the groom's side happen to get the sunny side of the outdoor wedding AND reception.

Aroldis impressed on the perspiration side. he had no sun but more exertion (well, we had a dance floor).

I'll call it a draw.

(my niece last year had an Irish/Puerto Rican wedding, but indoors. still, the dance floor was of course lively.)

in other news, NYY plays checkers and BOS plays chess. when 100 mph RPHs come to Fenway, they rarely throw a batter 3 strikes. they noticed

Curious as to whether you live in Coram, Montana or you've traveled there for some reason.

Could you hear him sizzling?
   331. rconn23 Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:38 AM (#5721553)
Well, at least with the way Holder is pitching this will be over quick.

So, you're saying the Cubs World Series victory is tainted?
   333. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:44 AM (#5721555)
Wow, the Yankees are going to just throw this game now? Apparently, as Sonny Gray is warming up.
   334. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:46 AM (#5721556)
Um...Mookie? Yeah, me again. You're too young to remember this, but back when you were a toddler, MTV had a show called "Beavis and Butt-Head." There was one episode where they tried to glue hair to their faces to make it look like they had beards. Look that one up.
   335. Chip Posted: August 06, 2018 at 12:48 AM (#5721557)
Incompetent Vasgersian doesn’t know Butler is on roster as the backup catcher.

ooh, game ovah!

YES!!!!!

That was fantastic.

Your team just got swept, but go ahead, dig a deeper hole.

So, from the postgame interview, Andrew Benentendi is maybe not the sharpest tool in the shed.

He says to people who spent years cheering for Manny Ramirez.

It's right outside Glacier National Park. As of tomorrow night I'll have spent my vacation walking 45 miles. If it means the Sox sweep the Yankees, I'll make that sacrifice any time.
   344. Chip Posted: August 06, 2018 at 01:04 AM (#5721567)
A’s only 4 back of NYY in the loss column, and one less win. Even negative differential Seattle after a win today is closer to the Yankees than the latter is to Boston. You can almost taste Andy and YC’s flop sweat (not that any of us would want to.)

Not much. Not much at all.

Late last night, The Red Sox rallied from a 3-run deficit in the 9th inning to sweep the Yankees. Over the last 10 seasons, the Yankees are 483-2 when leading by 3+ runs entering the 9th inning. Both losses have been to the Red Sox (also Sept. 15, 2016)
