Goldschmidt with his first Cardinal homerun.
   5. Perry Posted: March 29, 2019 at 08:20 PM (#5826841)
A towering shot on a fastball that was 6 inches off the plate inside. Impressive.
   6. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: March 29, 2019 at 08:20 PM (#5826842)
Fun fact: Chris Sale's Game Score last night was 21. His worst Game Score last year was 34.
   7. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 08:23 PM (#5826844)
Cardinals having a good first couple of innings so far this season.
   8. Perry Posted: March 29, 2019 at 08:24 PM (#5826845)
Ozuna running better than I expected, scoring from first on Yadi's double.
   9. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 08:26 PM (#5826847)

been watching tennis ...

we scored on something other than a home run?
   10. Perry Posted: March 29, 2019 at 08:27 PM (#5826848)
Brewers with the 2nd mound visit of the first inning, I guess with the game limit now that no longer means automatic removal? Did not know that.
   11. Perry Posted: March 29, 2019 at 08:29 PM (#5826849)
Only half paying attention, maybe it was the first visit from the bench.
   12. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 08:38 PM (#5826851)
boy, that looked like a home run off yelich's bat.

btw, he is the absolute doppelganger of my old trainer.
   13. base ball chick Posted: March 29, 2019 at 08:49 PM (#5826852)
aledmys diaz is not marwin. throws are way offline

i really wonder why the astros had no interest in keeping marwin. i mean, besides $$$

oh yeah - michael brantley is seriously HOTTTTTTTTTTT
   14. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 08:50 PM (#5826853)

this guy goldschmidt is ... strong.
   15. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 09:07 PM (#5826855)

kolten, kolten, kolten ...
   16. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 09:25 PM (#5826856)

well, sh-t.

watching a movie and missed those three runs....

Note she was reading this over my shoulder.....
   21. Meatwad Posted: March 29, 2019 at 09:44 PM (#5826862)
That could be avoided if you lived in moms basement like a good stat head.
   22. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: March 29, 2019 at 09:47 PM (#5826863)
Funnily enough, I am at my parents’ house, although not in the basement. My wife went to Vegas with her family this weekend (her cousin is a big Michael Buble fan). Er, not my thing, so I decided to visit my family as well. Watching the Cards with my dad.

GF said "what have we missed, let's watch something... "
’Honey, you know that’s what the offseason is for!’
   24. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 09:57 PM (#5826869)
I got a negative head nod out of that comment from 23.
   25. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:02 PM (#5826870)
that was a bs call against Thames... I have to agree with him.
   26. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:03 PM (#5826871)

ooh, that K on thames was a gift.

the umps let him get away with a lot of yelling, so i guess they thought it was close.

now counsell is barking at them ...
   27. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:17 PM (#5826876)
Cain was safe, but that was a great throw by Yadier...
   28. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:18 PM (#5826877)
hard to believe in homefield advantage, when the umps seem to be in the Cardinals pocket.
   29. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:19 PM (#5826878)

dang, these milwaukee fans are intense. the entire stadium crowd screamed its outrage in unison over that last review call.
   30. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:20 PM (#5826879)
Cain might have been safe, but I don’t think it was conclusive.
   31. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:20 PM (#5826880)
agree with 29... they have been great fans so far this series....
   32. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:21 PM (#5826881)
Cain might have been safe, but I don’t think it was conclusive.

maybe not conclusive, but I would give it 70-80% argument that he was safe.... the throw beat him clearly, but the time to make the tag made it close and the high tag probably gave Cain the base.

if it was Baez making the tag, he is out easily.
   33. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:23 PM (#5826882)
Another year, another f*** Ryan Braun.
   34. The Yankee Clapper Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:25 PM (#5826883)
Two Mariner solo HRs rock Eovaldi in 1st. Good velocity, coming & going.
   35. Jay Seaver Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:25 PM (#5826884)
Alternating homers and outs isn't a great plan, Eovaldi.
   36. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:26 PM (#5826885)
if it was Baez making the tag, he is out easily.
Definitely...and Javy is in Ft. Worth!
   37. Perry Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:26 PM (#5826886)
So far these first two Cards-Brewers games have had a playoff feel. Playing at a playoff pace, too -- 2:15 in and they're in the bottom of the 5th.
   38. vortex of dissipation Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:27 PM (#5826888)
Red Sox pitching holds the Mariners to only two home runs in the first inning.
   39. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:29 PM (#5826889)
So far these first two Cards-Brewers games have had a playoff feel

absolutely... nobody is giving anything up, and both teams and the fans are totally into the games.
   40. Perry Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:30 PM (#5826891)
Damn, now I have to go sweep snow out of my dish. Just started coming down a while ago and it's barely covering the grass, but it's that gloppy wet spring stuff that sticks to the dish.
   41. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:33 PM (#5826892)

i agree with 37 and 39. it is a highly competitive game for sure, but this pace is killing me.
   42. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:36 PM (#5826893)

goldy!
   43. Perry Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:36 PM (#5826894)
And back in time for Goldy's second of the game!
   44. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:37 PM (#5826895)
Goldy with his second Cardinal homerun....
   45. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:40 PM (#5826896)
Cardinal announcers are thinking that the Brewers lost the challenge with the Cain play, but Ozuna was pretty clearly safe so it would not have been challenged anyway.
   46. Jay Seaver Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:44 PM (#5826898)
Oh for crying out loud.
   47. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:46 PM (#5826899)
My wife’s cousin just got engaged in Vegas. Now I feel bad that I’m not there to celebrate. Ah well, she didn’t know it was going to happen.
   48. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:54 PM (#5826901)

three hours and we're in the top of the 7th.

ouch.
   49. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: March 29, 2019 at 10:59 PM (#5826902)
‘Baseball needs to make the games shorter.’ —completely unsolicited comment from my mom
   50. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:05 PM (#5826904)
I'm not even sure why this game is moving so slow.
   51. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:05 PM (#5826905)
Because baseball 2019.
   52. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:06 PM (#5826906)
in play run.... I love that especially with a man on first base... 3 hr game Goldy.
   53. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:06 PM (#5826907)
This Goldschmidt fella ain’t bad.
   54. salvomania Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:07 PM (#5826908)
I like this Goldschmidt fellow...
   55. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:07 PM (#5826909)

wow ... goldy gave that one a ride.
   56. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:07 PM (#5826910)
Goldy is a god... he just couldn't stand Wong being the hr leader for the team.
   57. Perry Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:07 PM (#5826911)
I like this new guy, Goldsmith or whatever his name is. He looks okay.
   58. base ball chick Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:08 PM (#5826912)
best p-art of astros post game interview

gerrit cole is tqalking about charlie morton and he says - he's worth EVERY penny of that 30 million dollar contract

and they were almost quick enough to cut off the last word

bet the stros are pissed at him about THAT seeing as how they weren't willing to pay him pretty much at all, even after he said he wanted to end his career with the astros
   59. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:08 PM (#5826913)
Freaking nice play by Aguilar there to get Dejong.
   60. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:10 PM (#5826914)
Matt Harvey looking strong in his first outing as an Angel.
   61. salvomania Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:10 PM (#5826915)
Awesome to see Alex Reyes pitching!
   62. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:11 PM (#5826916)
Reyes coming in to relieve... not sure he'll be a starter this season, but the guy is an ultimate stud when healthy.
   63. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:11 PM (#5826917)

now we get a look at alex reyes.

effortlessly throws a 99 mph pitch ...
   64. salvomania Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:11 PM (#5826918)
Throwing an easy 99
   65. salvomania Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:12 PM (#5826919)
Us Cards fans sure are all on the same wavelength tonight...
   66. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:12 PM (#5826920)
Both Martinez and Reyes as starters would make the Cardinals pitching staff the best in baseball, bar none... but the injury issue with them is a big deal.
   67. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:13 PM (#5826921)

right on, reyes. keep it up.
   68. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:15 PM (#5826922)
Reyes for a second inning or do we just accept that was a nice performance and bring in someone else?
   69. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:16 PM (#5826923)
Halfway through Angels-As. 4.5 innings in 1 hour 10 minutes.

Angels have tied a franchise record with 14 straight scoreless innings to start the season. Yaaaaaay. Ugh.
   70. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:16 PM (#5826924)

are there any brewers fans on btf anymore?

some of us remember the late harveys fondly, who's left?
   71. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:16 PM (#5826925)
If I'm managing, he goes out a second inning.... He's a starter in waiting right now, you need to use his arm.
   72. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:17 PM (#5826926)

some of us remember the late harveys fondly, who's left?

There used to be about three major contributors besides Harvey...not sure who is left.
   73. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:18 PM (#5826927)

i say give reyes another inning. we have to see what he can do.

but i'm scared to death.
   74. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:18 PM (#5826928)
Master of the Horse is a Brewers fan, as is (I think?) Tulo’s Fishy Mullet.
   75. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:19 PM (#5826929)
If anything, the Brewers should be adding fans, they are a young and well run organization... that is going to be clearly competitive this year and the next couple of years in the toughest division in baseball.
   76. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:21 PM (#5826931)
They walked Molina... you have to pinch run for him... I know that they won't, but c'mon.. you have to pinch run for him in an 8-4 game.
   77. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:21 PM (#5826932)
75 - No doubt. Milwaukee will support this team- it’s a fine market when the product is decent.
   78. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:22 PM (#5826933)

wow, yadi goes first to third on a hard hit ball to right.

   79. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:22 PM (#5826934)
having said that, he goes first to third on a single...
   80. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:22 PM (#5826935)

wong pops up, swinging at the first pitch for the second time tonight.
   81. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:23 PM (#5826936)

omg, yadi scores on a wild pitch. he must be exhausted after all that.
   82. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:24 PM (#5826937)
No doubt. Milwaukee will support this team- its a fine market when the product is decent.

I loved Milwaukee when I was out there, great stadium from my viewpoint (much better than LA which is a garbage stadium)

Yadier scores on a wild pitch... screw the pinch runner I guess... but c'mon give the backup some playing time.
   83. Jay Seaver Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:24 PM (#5826938)
I am starting to have doubts about the Red Sox' plans to give the pitchers a light workload during spring training. I mean, it's possible the Mariners are just an offensive juggernaut, but this is just a mess.

It's the sort of mess where JBJ can only turn extra bases into a sacrifice fly.
   84. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:25 PM (#5826939)
Why the hell was the Miller organist randomly playing Sweet Caroline between pitches? That sh*t should be quarantined in Boston.
   85. Jay Seaver Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:26 PM (#5826940)
Less than halfway through his first game of the season and Eck is just mystified that Cora doesn't have anyone up in the bullpen.
   86. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:28 PM (#5826941)

cfb, you are my homey, but you are so wrong about dodger stadium. a beautiful venue. an afternoon game there on a sunday was heaven, just heaven ...

the parking left a lot to be desired though.

you want a garbage stadium, go to a rays game.
   87. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:29 PM (#5826942)
This game is long... I mean long and there is no reason for it... the pace has been okay, but man it's just dragging....
   88. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:31 PM (#5826943)
cfb, you are my homey, but you are so wrong about dodger stadium. a beautiful venue. an afternoon game there on a sunday was heaven, just heaven ...

sorry, it was boring as f-ck... it had a massive parking lot instead of people walking to the stadium, it felt like it was in a cul-d-sac.... and the stadium was boring... with almost no passion from the fans.... I've been to more games at La than any other stadium not St Louis based, and it was boring, not character, no fans that felt like they cared, and a boring location.
   89. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:33 PM (#5826944)

87, i know, this is weird. i don't remember sitting through a lot of pitching changes, seems like those were between innings. one review for the cain tag, right? have the at bats been long?
   90. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:34 PM (#5826945)
Miller is a cromulent place to watch a game if you resign yourself to the sonic assault that is a 2019 baseball game in most places.
   91. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:36 PM (#5826946)
Goldschmidt circling the bases has added a few minutes, but mostly it’s just because the players take too damn long to do everything.
   92. Jay Seaver Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:38 PM (#5826947)
Sam Travis is 2-2 on a couple ugly-looking swings.
   93. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:39 PM (#5826948)
Angels set a franchise record for 15 straight scoreless innings to start the season.
   94. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:40 PM (#5826949)
have the at bats been long?

Mostly just Goldy, who has averaged something like 8 pitches per at bat.
   95. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:41 PM (#5826950)
Oh, come on, Counsell. That’s awful.
   96. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:42 PM (#5826951)
boo.... really.. you walk the guy in a 9-5 game in the ninth inning.... that is just ##### #### and means you need to get your ass handed to you for the rest of the season.
   97. phredbird Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:42 PM (#5826952)

again, i don't know how you can say that. lots of folks who live in silver lake/echo park walk to the game. every stadium has a parking lot, so what? (the traffic leaving the game was a problem, i admit).

a boring location? seriously? that part of town is quite picturesque, and the view of downtown from the stadium is cool. the layout of the stadium is one that is perfect for baseball.

there was a lot of passion at the games i went to, especially when they got manny. and when matt kemp was good, the fans were nuts. the bleachers were famous for the attitude of the fans there.

the myth that fans got there late and left early was overstated.

honestly, i am confused. to each his own, i guess.
   98. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:45 PM (#5826953)
Manfred should invoke the best interests of baseball clause and suspend Counsell for a couple games for that crap.
   99. cardsfanboy Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:46 PM (#5826954)
it's a boring typical stadium... it's in a weird location with nothing right around the area... it's just a destination point.

When you go to a Dodgers game, you are going to a Dodgers game, you aren't making a night of it, where you park your car, go to a restaurant on the way to the game, go to the game, and walk away and go to a bar and then leave... it's just a boring typical 60's stadium with nothing surrounding it to make it interesting, sure it's better than complete garbage stadiums like Wrigley or Fenway, but San Diego and Anaheim were much better places and were within 100 miles.

I just found it boring and uninteresting with nothing around to make in fun. Add in the lackadaisacal attitude of it's fans and it was the worst stadium I went to in California(note never made it up north)

and note: I enjoyed old Busch...
   100. Jay Seaver Posted: March 29, 2019 at 11:46 PM (#5826955)
What the heck is Eovaldi doing back out there for the 5th down 6-2?
