HOW WILL THE ANGELS WIN TODAY?!
   2. Bote Man Posted: July 16, 2019 at 07:51 PM (#5862399)
Austin Voth (look him up) starting for the Nats against the hapless Orioles. He gets 1 out, then HBP, 4-pitch BB, HBP and all I can think about is Harry Doyle introducing Ricky Vaughn. He managed to wriggle out without surrendering a run, that came in the 2nd inning off noted slugger Hanser Alberto to match Matt Adams solo circuit clout. I guess the Nationals are playing down to their competition these 2 games.
   3. rconn23 Posted: July 16, 2019 at 07:58 PM (#5862400)
The Yankees offense outside of EE is in an absolute deep freeze. Some regression was bound to happen, but man. Sanchez's at bats are particularly dreadful.
   4. Bote Man Posted: July 16, 2019 at 08:08 PM (#5862403)
Matt Gelb @MattGelb
It looks like Jay Bruce just suffered a rib cage injury on a swing. I'm not sure what the Phillies do at this point if Jay Bruce must miss some time, but Nick Williams has hit .358/.417/.651 in 120 PA at AAA.
   5. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: July 16, 2019 at 08:11 PM (#5862404)
Eugenio Suarez is a cyborg sent from the future to systematically destroy the Cubs. I wonder what happens between now and his time to make that necessary?
   6. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: July 16, 2019 at 08:13 PM (#5862405)
Ridiculous that Dietrich is allowed to take first base 19 times this year by leaning into pitches an inch off the plate.
   7. Master of the Horse Posted: July 16, 2019 at 08:16 PM (#5862406)
Bellinger has been hot af lately. 7 homers in July already and that is the 4th since the ASG.
   8. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: July 16, 2019 at 08:31 PM (#5862411)
That's 3 hbp now, all 3 could have been avoided with minimal effort (Dietrich leaned into his as Elroy said), the other two were very slow curves.
   9. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: July 16, 2019 at 08:36 PM (#5862412)
Yeah, Mills ain’t exactly Dock Ellis out there.
   10. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: July 16, 2019 at 08:39 PM (#5862414)
The Andrew Cashner experiment in Boston looks like most of the starts by Boston starters so far this year....5 IP, 4 ER. For a number 5 I guess that's ok so far as my hopes were not particularly high.
Maybe he can go 7 and keep the pen refreshed, only on 84 pitches now.
   11. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: July 16, 2019 at 08:42 PM (#5862416)
Robel Garcia is an awesome, awesome story.
   12. Master of the Horse Posted: July 16, 2019 at 08:45 PM (#5862417)
11--Found this so yeah, that's pretty amazing

Garcia played for UniPolsai Bologna (Fortitudo B. C. 1953) in 2018. He hit 281/343/490 and was 2nd in the league in triples and 10th in doubles during the regular season, before hitting .400 in the semifinali serie and .357 in the finale serie as he helped lead his club to the Federazione Italiana Serie A1 (the Italian major league) championship.

Signed by the Cleveland Indians out of the Dominican Republic as a 17-year old back in March 2010, Garcia spent four very uneventful seasons in the Indians farm system (hitting a combined 217/326/356 in 274 games) before being released at the end of Minor League Camp in 2014, but he didn't give up, so now he will get another chance with the Cubs.
   13. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: July 16, 2019 at 08:49 PM (#5862418)
Dietrich visibly irritated with himself for succeeding in getting missed by the pitch.
   14. Master of the Horse Posted: July 16, 2019 at 08:51 PM (#5862420)
Dietrich taunted Brewer fans after getting hit the 4th, 5th and 6th time in a series earlier this season.
   15. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: July 16, 2019 at 08:53 PM (#5862421)
Sox offense stringing together some hits, BB, etc, tied it up at 4-4. Now just need a XBH to tack on a few more and take the lead.
   16. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: July 16, 2019 at 08:56 PM (#5862422)
So far that Xander contract is looking like a bargain! Early days, but still....
   17. Bote Man Posted: July 16, 2019 at 08:58 PM (#5862423)
Ridiculous that Dietrich is allowed to take first base 19 times this year by leaning into pitches an inch off the plate.

Maybe he should move to the Atlantic League so he could steal 1B more often???
   18. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:00 PM (#5862424)
JD flies out with 2 on, scores level in Boston. Cashner needs to put up an inning or 2 of zeros and maybe get his first Red Sox win if the batsman can add another run or two in the next frame.
   19. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:02 PM (#5862425)
Nope, Cashner gives up a dinger to Smoak. He's determined to lose his first game as a Red Sock. Sox now down 5-4
   20. Bote Man Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:10 PM (#5862426)
He's determined to lose his first game as a Red Sock.

This bugs me. I'd prefer "his first game with the Red Sox" more.
   21. Bote Man Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:14 PM (#5862428)
Jamal Collier @JamalCollier
Brian Dozier has an infield single with two outs, stole second base, got wild pitched to third, and then balked home. LOL, the Orioles.

To be fair, Infield Single was a generous scoring decision. The pitcher deflected the batted ball, thus requiring the SS to change course suddenly, then he couldn't bare-hand it so Dozier was safe. The rest was just a comedy of errors.
   22. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:17 PM (#5862429)
Dietrich initiated the contact there maybe, he just pushes every rule huh?
   23. rconn23 Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:20 PM (#5862430)
Didi is essentially an automatic out at this point. Just dreadful offense by the entire team outside of Encarnacion.
   24. Brian C Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:20 PM (#5862431)
I imagine it was hard to avoid, but Rizzo put himself in a bad spot there. Would have had an argument if he'd tried to cut behind Dietrich, but not really in front of him.
   25. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:20 PM (#5862432)
Wtf does heyward get a 3-0 greenlight?
   26. Master of the Horse Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:22 PM (#5862433)
MLB rule 7.08 b

Runner is out when

He intentionally interferes with a thrown ball; or hinders a fielder attempting to make a play on a batted ball;
Rule 7.08(b) Comment: A runner who is adjudged to have hindered a fielder who is attempting to
make a play on a batted ball is out whether it was intentional or not.
If, however, the runner has contact with a legally occupied base when he hinders the fielder, he
shall not be called out unless, in the umpire’s judgment, such hindrance, whether it occurs on fair or foul
territory, is intentional. If the umpire declares the hindrance intentional, the following penalty shall
apply: With less than two out, the umpire shall declare both the runner and batter out. With two out, the
umpire shall declare the batter out.
If, in a run-down between third base and home plate, the succeeding runner has advanced and is
standing on third base when the runner in a run-down is called out for offensive interference, the umpire
shall send the runner standing on third base back to second base. This same principle applies if there is
a run-down between second and third base and succeeding runner has reached second (the reasoning is
that no runner shall advance on an interference play and a runner is considered to occupy a base until he
legally has reached the next succeeding base).
   27. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:27 PM (#5862434)
Rizzo tried to run closer to the mound than normal, it's the right call, but Dietrich didn't even try to field the ball, he ran into Rizzo and oversold the contact. Totally allowed, just like putting his elbow in front of a pitch. He bought the call, and he knew it.
   28. Brian C Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:29 PM (#5862435)
Sure, it definitely had an NBA-flop feel to it, but ... shrug. Right call is the right call.
   29. Master of the Horse Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:34 PM (#5862436)
27--Totally. Brewer fans have no love for Dietrich. Dude is a #### and a half
   30. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:36 PM (#5862438)
####### ####### did it again.
   31. It was something about the man-spider and sodomy, Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:36 PM (#5862439)
ALL RISE!
   32. Brian C Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:37 PM (#5862440)
Well, that HBP by Dietrich was a ball that was legit right as his legs. He made no effort to avoid it, of course, but at least he didn't have to lean into it.
   33. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:39 PM (#5862441)
He absolutely turned his leg into it. He's very good at moving some parts of his body in different ways so it looks like he's either gonna swing or avoid it, but it's really obvious on the slomo.
   34. It was something about the man-spider and sodomy, Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:43 PM (#5862442)
Sir Didi ... hold my beer!
   35. rconn23 Posted: July 16, 2019 at 09:49 PM (#5862443)
Well, about post #23 ... Nevermind.
   36. The Yankee Clapper Posted: July 16, 2019 at 10:01 PM (#5862444)
Juan Soto homered for the Nationals tonight, his 17th of the season, and 39th of his career, moving past Frank Robinson & Ken Griffey, Jr for sole possession of 5th place on the Age-20 Career HR Leaderboard.
   37. puck Posted: July 16, 2019 at 10:12 PM (#5862446)
Oh poop, Brendan Rodgers out for the season for surgery on the labrum in his right shoulder. That seems bad.
   38. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: July 16, 2019 at 10:32 PM (#5862448)
I'm at the stadium for Shohei Ohtani bobblehead night. I've never seen the cameras come out so quickly for any other player than for Ohtani. Trout gets the ultimate respect, but Shohei gets real love.
   39. Bote Man Posted: July 16, 2019 at 10:34 PM (#5862449)
The Phillies in self-destruct mode. After Hector Neris surrendered a 3-run homer to give the Dodgers the lead, he threw a pitch that would've beaned Freese in the head had he not ducked just in time. Then Neris got ejected, so I guess there were warnings issued previously. Kapler came out to rather calmly discuss it with the HP ump, but he must've said the Magic Word because he got ejected as well. Even the Phillies TV guys were remarking that Neris crossed the line.
   40. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: July 16, 2019 at 10:41 PM (#5862450)
Ump said a pitch hit javy, but javy shook him off and said foul ball. Appearently that was enough for the ump to change his call. Odd. Javy probably just didn't want to waste replay time. Regardless he got an infield single on the next pitch.
   41. rconn23 Posted: July 16, 2019 at 10:42 PM (#5862451)
What a win by the Phillies. A lot of teams don't come back from that collapse.
   42. phredbird Posted: July 16, 2019 at 10:52 PM (#5862453)

lord, the cardinals can be so bad ...

first and third, nobody out in the 7th, and they can't get the man in.
   43. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: July 16, 2019 at 10:54 PM (#5862454)
They just show the Jake Marisnick video of him wiping out Jonathan Lucroy as Marisnick came to the plate. Crowd was very angry.
   44. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: July 16, 2019 at 11:03 PM (#5862456)
Kimbrel, shaky.
   45. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 16, 2019 at 11:04 PM (#5862457)
Not that Kimbrel isn't known for making things interesting, but what's a realistic time table for him to have the rust shaken from that arm?
   46. Lassus Posted: July 16, 2019 at 11:15 PM (#5862460)
Speaking of shaky, Diaz in the midst of fucking things up.
   47. Lassus Posted: July 16, 2019 at 11:15 PM (#5862461)
Two on, one out.

Diaz is going to blow it.
   48. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: July 16, 2019 at 11:17 PM (#5862462)
It's one thing to strike out on that pitch, another to have that little awareness the ball got away. Come on man.
   49. Lassus Posted: July 16, 2019 at 11:25 PM (#5862463)
Holy jebus. Diaz is awful. He got the save, but....
   50. Bote Man Posted: July 16, 2019 at 11:31 PM (#5862465)
Call me madcap, but I doubt that the Braves will win this game.
   51. Bote Man Posted: July 16, 2019 at 11:38 PM (#5862466)
Captain! Schwarbird uncloaking!
   52. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 16, 2019 at 11:38 PM (#5862467)
I had a feeling he'd do that!
   53. Fred Lynn Nolan Ryan Sweeney Agonistes Posted: July 16, 2019 at 11:45 PM (#5862468)
Presumptive 2019 AL MVP Matt Chapman adds 2-run homer to his 2-run single, A's lead Mariners 5-1 through 5 innings.
   54. Bote Man Posted: July 16, 2019 at 11:56 PM (#5862470)
Wade Davis closes the door...on his outing. He gets booed out of Coors Field.
   55. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 17, 2019 at 12:00 AM (#5862471)
Watching the replay of the Schwarber walk-off and I noticed the two young kids who were inches from retrieving the ball from the basket, only to be betrayed by their short arms, which allowed a burly son of a gun to muscle his way over to it and recede into the night with it.
   56. Howie Menckel Posted: July 17, 2019 at 12:01 AM (#5862472)
1 more Mets game against the mighty Twins, then they play their next 20 against the beatable Giants, Padres, Pirates, White Sox, Pirates, and Marlins.

then here comes the Nationals and Braves for 6. guh
3 with Royals!
oh, next 18 with Braves, Indians, Cubs, Phillies, Nationals, Phillies

never mind
   57. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: July 17, 2019 at 12:20 AM (#5862473)
And Marisnick gets drilled.
   58. Fred Lynn Nolan Ryan Sweeney Agonistes Posted: July 17, 2019 at 12:21 AM (#5862474)
Chapman tacks on an RBI double, now 7-1 A's.
A's starter Daniel Mengden is probably done: 7 innings, 4 hits, no walks.
   59. Lindor Truffles Posted: July 17, 2019 at 02:54 AM (#5862477)
which allowed a burly son of a gun to muscle his way over to it and recede into the night with it.

Mai Tai Guy hammed it up with his bros afterwards. #### him.
   60. Lassus Posted: July 17, 2019 at 08:21 AM (#5862483)
Mai Tai guy is hopefully about to get meme'd to the moon.
   61. JAHV Posted: July 17, 2019 at 12:10 PM (#5862549)
I really, really don't like Dietrich. That play was garbage.
   62. Meatwad Posted: July 17, 2019 at 12:29 PM (#5862555)
Just now saw that replay he didnt even attmpt the field the ball just just ran into the baseline
