HOW WILL ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!

Don't worry, El Hombre, a certain tout named Krusty just told me that the Angels are due.

It's Sonny Gray Day! Everyone ... rejoice.

You can't see the Nationals @ Pirates today because Fakeblock. Do I get a discount on my MLB.tv subscription because this and other games have been removed from availability??

Luckily, it's also a WC semi-final day as well ... so I'm drinking already!

TIL from the official MiLB Stats people, if a pitcher has a perfect game going and the extra innings automatic runner scores on a SB/WP/PB/SF, the perfect game is still intact.

Therefore, a Minor Leaguer can now throw a perfect game and get the loss.

Sorry Bote Man, but Bote is going back to Iowa (I assume, Bryant is back, but I haven't seen the official roster move announcement).

Chicago Cubs @Cubs 30s30 seconds ago

The #Cubs today activated 3B Kris Bryant off of the 10-day DL. INF David Bote has been optioned to @IowaCubs.

What timing.

He'll be back (or traded somewhere where he'll get a shot), he seems he could be a nice bench/utility guy. He can play a good to pretty good 2b and 3b, and has some pop. He's a little old, so I'm not sure how much real upside there is; if he's your starting 3b you're losing more games than you're winning.

Is Clayton Richard not good?

SOME NUMBERS OVER THE LAST YEAR

JD Martinez: .321/.385/.693, 59 homers, 149 RBI

Francisco Lindor: .297/.368/.566, 43 homers, 23 steals (second only to Mike Trout in WAR)

Luis Severino: 23-4, 2.19 ERA, 249 Ks

It was part sarcasm, part I didn't know. I do know he was halfway decent last year, but hadn't looked at all this year.

I think he also got out of the box really slowly. Had he broke for first right away, he would have barely beaten it out.

Bryant is kind of a crappy third baseman, isn’t he?

Not enough seasoning.
   24. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: July 11, 2018 at 05:50 PM (#5708759)
I don't know if you're joking, but no, he's not at all a crappy 3b.

Some very cool names on the PokerGO stream/WSOP. They could easily be MLB stars :

Metalidi, Manion, Zobian, Loosli, Cynn.

Hundley is the only player remaining on the Giants' bench, so no pinch-waddler for Pablo.

OK, I have a question about Pudge's kid on the mound for the Giants. According to BBREF and Wikipedia, he was drafted out of HS as a 21 YO in 2011. That seems odd. Can anyone shed any light on that?

He was almost exactly 19 when he was drafted.

James Norwood making his MLB debut in a 4-4 tie in the 12th inning in San Francisco. No pressure, kid.

When is the last time the Cubs had multiple homers in a game, much less 3? Hasn't happened much this year.

According to bb-ref, the Cubs have hit 3 or more homeruns in a game 10 times this year, that is tied for 16-19th in baseball.. Leader is of course the Yankees with 22, followed by Oakland with 17, Milwaukee with 16, Tor, STL, LAD, and Cle with 15, Col, Bos, Bal, Ari with 14, Sea with 13, LAA with 12, Was and Min with 11, and at the bott of the list you have Det with 3, Kcr/Sdp with 4, Mia 5, and SFT 6.

Cubs did it on 6-29, 6-15, 5-29, 5-20, 5-11, 5-9, 5-7(that was a good week) 4-24, 4-11, 3-29. (they did it three times against Miami for what it's worth)

   47. Bote Man Posted: July 11, 2018 at 07:57 PM (#5708821)
Willson Contreras' voice just bumped up an octave after that foul ball into his delicates. Cubs catchers taking it on the...chin today.

You're right about that. I was confused by his minor league record, where he didn't play until age 21, and not in the States until 22.

Oh dear. It would be really handy to have that other guy from M.I.B. who could show you all the many outcomes from different turns of events.

Meanwhile, Pudge Jr. has thrown 42 pitches in 2 innings as the Giants' long reliever in extra innings. Jon Miller noted that he is working on full rest, but that's a lot of pitches for just 2 innings, and now he's coming to bat.

Ok, you don't need to be a STATS-guy or SABRmetrician to see that if the Giants lose this game vs. the Terrible Cubs... they are off to NL WEST Swamps. The makers of the game FORTNITE will probably name a region after them : the SFG Swamps.

And that is where all the idiots fly to in the future.

Win this, Giants, and beat the Awesome Athletics after that !

OH YES !

I haven't watched a lot of Phillies games this season, but it seems that every single time I do I see either at least one outright error or just a bone-headed defensive play. How are they in 1st place??
   68. The Yankee Clapper Posted: July 11, 2018 at 08:42 PM (#5708855)
Orioles MASN broadcast touting media reports that Yankees are offering LHP Justus Sheffield (2.53 ERA @ Scranton in age-22 season) for Machado.

EDIT: Not sure, but this might be a corruption of the MLB Network story that the Orioles would trade Machado for Sheffield. Seems unclear that Yankees have made that offer.
   69. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: July 11, 2018 at 08:46 PM (#5708857)
Again, Machado might be good, or not...but he certainly is NOT a Yankee, and does not belong here in the Bronx.
Send that jerk to the Brewers or something.

As Bartolo Colon starts his outing at Fenway, the Red Sox coaching staff has more plate appearances against him (63) than do the players on the roster (62).

When Sonny Gray's got a 72 Game Score and Tyler Wade's gone deep, you know DAMN well that Aaron Boone went to two masses this morning.
   74. rconn23 Posted: July 11, 2018 at 09:04 PM (#5708869)
MASN reporter tweeted two hours ago that Sheffield is excluded from the offer. So, who knows. I wouldn't include Sheffield. Maybe Abreu, Frazier/Florial and another pitching prospect? As always, my trade proposal sucks.
   75. rconn23 Posted: July 11, 2018 at 09:07 PM (#5708871)
I think Tyler Wade is a pretty good player who has been the victim of limited at bats. I think he has a bright future, but probably on another team.
   76. Howie Menckel Posted: July 11, 2018 at 09:09 PM (#5708872)
the Indians right now are 17-for-25 against Reds pitching tonight.
in other news, they lead 17-0 in the 4th inning. all 9 batters already have a hit.

at this rate, maybe a position player for the Indians can pitch 3 IP for a cheap save.

Mets are 4-19 in their last 23 home games - fun for the season ticketholders!

also, at 2 for 25 so far tonight, now hitting .207 at home this year.
on pace for lowest since the 1910 White Sox (coincidentally, that was Bartolo Colon's rookie season)

Mets announcer Gary Cohen accurately calls Brandon Nimmo "the happiest man in baseball" after he hits a 3-run walkoff HR for a 3-0 win over the Phillies.

I've mentioned it before, but every bitter grump who wonders why these damn major leaguers don't seem to appreciate their good fortune should just watch this Wyoming guy in a Youtube highlight loop. when he realizes that it's a HR (his 13th this year) after he busts it out of the box, he looks like a kid who just found a BB gun at Christmas. after he scores, he's hugging everyone - even the batboy, and Mesoraco, who has been his teammate for like a month.

That's what you get as a caring mother, who has to work a lot... you call your son Brandon and he watches Nemo with his babysitters. And then he flips out. Is that the GIST of IT ?

The Diamondbacks are bringing in a position player to pitch - in the bottom of the fourth!

Starter Shelby Miller left with an injury, and they've already run through three relievers on their way to a 14-1 deficit to the Rox.
