ER by game for deGrom this year:
1 1 4 3 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 1 1 3 1 2 3 3 1 0

his record is 5-4 in 19 starts

Is it possible to overlay that with the corresponding Red Sox games thus far and see if he was pitching for the Sox would his record be like 15-1 or something?

well, the Reds had INF Alex Blandino pitch bottom 8 tonight to try to keep the Reds within 19-2

Lindor fly out, Guyer down swinging, EGonzalez single and WP, then RPerez also Ks swinging.

that's... unusual

Carlos Gonzalez' three-run shot off Daniel Descalso - in the bottom of the fourth - makes it 18-1 Rockies.

19 to 1 in the 5th ? New Record NIMMOnent !
   105. Howie Menckel Posted: July 11, 2018 at 10:54 PM (#5708925)
just now catching up to Nimmo's on-field post-game interview

he tells the announcer, "this is cool!" to get his first walkoff HR

then first thing he does, with a toothy grin, is he thanks the fans still left in the stands for sticking around

MLB agents are out there thinking, "how do I get my superstar client to fake what - on this guy - is an utter lack of guile/cynicism? imagine the endorsements we could get!"

3 position players pitched for the Brewers in this 1979 game.

That "record" might be in jeopardy tonight!

Humorously, Blandino was the only Reds pitcher tonight that didnt give up a run
   108. Davo and his Moose Tacos Posted: July 11, 2018 at 11:01 PM (#5708928)
Rockies pitcher German Marquez just hit a 447-foot homer off (position player) Daniel Descalso.

Davo's with a great pull there
and it was Sal Bando, Jim Gantner, and Buck Martinez

no one who just got a cup of coffee in the bigs

Top 3 reasons why you suddenly hate baseball :

1. Pitchers look into their hats for intel on batters.
2. Position players pitch.
3. Schwarber and Adams bunt for basehits against the shift.
   112. Davo and his Moose Tacos Posted: July 11, 2018 at 11:11 PM (#5708932)
Jeff Mathis is playing second base—he’s gonna be pitching next.

It would have to make it past the focus groups and legal department before being approved.

Bando pitched 3 innings in that game

Why? The nice thing about having a position player pitch multiple innings is that you don't have to pinch-hit for him.

He's the first pitcher to homer off a position player since Mike LaCoss hit one off of Dane Iorg in 1986.

The D-Backs have moved Descalso to first and brought in catcher Alex Avila to pitch the seventh.

Will Avila race to the plate to catch his own pitches???

4th time in baseball history multiple teams have scored 19+ runs on the same day.
   120. Tom Nawrocki Posted: July 11, 2018 at 11:30 PM (#5708943)
They also used pitcher Robbie Ray as a pinch-hitter. It's "everybody pick a new position" day.

You can't predict baseball, Suzyn!

I know some of you here don't really agree with this type of stuff(position players pitching, etc), but for me baseball is still just a game largely played by enormously talented, overgrown kids(and I think a lot of the younger guys are still think like kids anyway) and at times, it should be fun. The season is long and arduous and this year in the AL, it really is the haves and have nots, so if players get a chance to do something kind of silly sometimes, then I think that's ok.

I was really hoping there be 2 teams get 20 today, that would've been kind of cool.

Is Jose Ramirez just the most awesome player no one outside of Cleveland and inner circle fandom that no one has ever heard of? This cat is just heaps fun to watch.
   123. Perry Posted: July 11, 2018 at 11:39 PM (#5708947)
Glad to see the Rox being sporting about it, swinging at everything. They just went down in the 8th on 4 pitches, one a foul ball. The 7th was just about as quick. (D-backs are doing the same. Everyone just wants it over.)
   124. Bote Man the walk-off king Posted: July 11, 2018 at 11:40 PM (#5708948)
I know some Nats fans who have been rumbling during that period which shall be quickly forgotten that the Nats should just go ahead and forfeit, pay the fine, and give their beleaguered players some needed rest. Maybe the Dbacks should've considered forfeiting this game?? I mean, a position player pitching in the FOURTH INNING??!! Come on!
   125. Perry Posted: July 11, 2018 at 11:41 PM (#5708949)
Uh-oh, Bryan Shaw in to close it. They'll probably end up using Wade Davis for the save.
   126. Perry Posted: July 11, 2018 at 11:46 PM (#5708951)
And with 2 out Shaw walks Descalso.
   127. Tom Nawrocki Posted: July 11, 2018 at 11:53 PM (#5708952)
BDC Alert: Carlos Gonzalez had a box-score line of 4 4 2 6 tonight. Gotta be the first one of those ever, right?
