Murphy runs like he's got a stick up his butt, which is ironic considering his off-field remarks a couple years ago.
He also has a "wide stance" at the plate. Adding it all up, I think the conclusion is pretty obvious.

I'm glad we got Shildt to manage this team, so that the fundamentals don't go to waste and we don't get picked off all the time.... oh wait, we got picked off again for like the 30th time this year.
#Angels Shohei Ohtani is the first player in baseball history to hit a home run on the day that his impending Tommy John Surgery was announced.
Care to verify, cfb?

4 pickoffs attempts, zero throws to the batter, combined with a minute and 33 seconds on the review of the pickoff.... Baseball...you are doing it wrong.

Clint Frazier saw a neurologist in Pittsburgh this week, Aaron Boone reported. He started having more symptoms associated with the concussion he sustained in spring training just as he was going to be moved to Double-A. He will not be an option the rest of the year for the Yankees.
That sounds a bit career threatening. My recollection is that his contact with the wall wasn't that extreme on the concussion play, and it's looking like normal baseball activity is still causing problems. It'll be a shame if he can't stay healthy enough to demonstrate his actual ability, but that happens and is looking increasingly possible. Hope not.

Shildt has a choice between Carlos Martinez in the bullpen and Dakota Hudson in the bullpen, and goes with Hudson, which I get.... big lead go with the lesser guy....sticks with him clearly one batter too long, and then brings in Martinez.... turns what should have been a laughter into a tight game.
Shildt really needs to work on his bullpen management. I love the quick hooks from time to time... that is something that has been missing from the game for a couple of decades and it's something that shouldn't have disappeared with the large bullpens of today, but he needs to get pass his pets and go with the guys who can do the job. The pen was revamped for him to give him a shot of not looking bad, but he needs to realize that his pets, young guys that nobody in the majors has heard of, are going to get scouting reports out there eventually, and you need quick hooks with them when it appears that the scouting report is spot on.

Shohei Otani is told that he's going to need Tommy John surgery, then goes out and hits two homers on a 4-4 night, and steals a base for good measure.

YES capturing tension in the dugout between Severino and Sanchez, after they already had a pretty vociferous exchange following the first passed ball, which wasn’t particularly well masked by their respective glove and mask.

(I do wonder if Sanchez pointed out that in between his incompetent plays behind the plate Seve gave up 3 ringing doubles, two of which nearly went over the fence, plus a bullet of an RBI single to Lowrie.)

Michael A. Taylor of the Nats.
team down 7-6 in the 9th, 1st and 2nd, 2 outs, sees 6 pitches from Carlos Martinez.
5 of them, even Angel Hernandez wouldn't call them strikes.
is he on first base? no. he is in the showers.
pitiful.

foul ball grounder down first base line, caroms off the wall and through the legs of the ball girl.
Disaster Inning: Was the first inning the worst inning of the season? Might’ve been. After stranding the bases loaded in the top half, Luis Severino got knocked around for four runs in the bottom half. Gary Sanchez had a hand in that as well. A piss-poor effort behind the plate led to four pitches to the backstop (they were scored two passed balls and two wild pitches but it could’ve been four passed balls). Severino, meanwhile, allowed four 100+ mph batted balls to the first five batters he faced. Brett Gardner and Andrew McCutchen both had balls hit over their heads. A disaster inning in every possible way.
Severino Struggles: Severino is still broken, folks. Maybe moreso than at any other point this season. His line Wednesday night: 2.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K on 59 pitches. Eleven balls in play and six at 95 mph or better. His 96.2 mph average fastball velocity was his lowest in any game since April 2016. In his last eleven starts now, he has a 6.83 ERA (4.96 FIP) and opponents are hitting .323/.360/.574 against him. The Yankees should probably skip Severino’s next start entirely and let him catch his breath. A stunning fall from grace, this has been.
