HOW WILL THE METS SURPRISE EVERYONE TONIGHT (WITH CHARLIE IN ATTENDANCE)?

WTF happened to the Angels? I'm looking at the game day, and I've never heard of their bottom 4 hitters. Rengifo, Thaiss, Tovar, and Bemboom. Those are video game names.

Heaney looks great, though!
   3. JJ1986 Posted: August 20, 2019 at 03:51 PM (#5872958)
Thaiss was a first-round draft pick. Tovar may be an infielder who was in the Mets system for a decade, but I had no idea he was in the majors.

Yes. Wilfredo Tovar.

Imagine my surprise when I saw Cesar Puello starting in the outfield for Miami a couple of weeks ago.

Robert Gsellman’s “sore right triceps” is actually a partial tear of his lat, the Mets say.

MY GAWD! The Mets.

Jed Lowrie (left knee, left hamstring, left hip, right calf) is starting a rehab assignment with High-A St. Lucie today.

“He’s in a good enough spot to go out and DH today,” Mickey Callaway said.

........

[he's old and has been out all season, but he drove in 99 runs way back in - holy crap, 2018!)
   7. JJ1986 Posted: August 20, 2019 at 05:43 PM (#5872990)
100% forgot Lowrie was on the team.

There is no truth to the allegation that Luis Castillo has been arrested. He is with his family in the U.S. Luis & his family ask that all media outlets writing on the ‘story’ retract their false statements of fact, including reference to an Instagram account that he doesn’t own.
   9. The Yankee Clapper Posted: August 20, 2019 at 06:50 PM (#5873004)
Well, this story suggests that the reason Castillo hasn't been arrested is because police in the Dominican Republic haven’t found him yet, but they do have Octavio Dotel. No word on how this might relate to David Ortiz.
   10. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: August 20, 2019 at 07:24 PM (#5873007)
I am so psyched about the Giants@Cubs series. Finally, the Gigantes have a team that can keep up with the little bears.
   11. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: August 20, 2019 at 07:58 PM (#5873012)
But what does this have to do with Guillermo Mota? Or Chris Truby?

JD Davis with a bad leg has got to be about the worst defensive outfielder possible as a major leaguer.
   12. Never Give an Inge (Dave) Posted: August 20, 2019 at 08:01 PM (#5873013)
Charlie, what section are you in? I’m in 330.
   13. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: August 20, 2019 at 08:03 PM (#5873014)
Hah, I'm going to be in section 330 on Friday! Row 3! How are the seats?

Let's go Giants !
   15. JJ1986 Posted: August 20, 2019 at 08:07 PM (#5873017)
Why is Matz dicking around with the pitcher?

heh, will the thrill clark is in the booth at the cardinals game spouting off about how the game is 'soft' ...'touchy feely' ...

he was such a red@ss player, i'm not surprised.

but it's actually fun listening to him talk about the giants/cardinals rivalry in the late 80s. he was talking about jeffrey leonard and the one flap down business.

good stuff for once from a visitor, most of the time that stuff sucks.
   19. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: August 20, 2019 at 08:28 PM (#5873024)
Good boy, blue. Not a jerk anymore.

Let's hope Bryant sucks more.

Heyward just avoided decapitation by Bryant.

Good job, Beede.
   30. Never Give an Inge (Dave) Posted: August 20, 2019 at 08:53 PM (#5873036)
The seats are pretty good, but too many Indians fans in this section.

Comeon Buster, you are our only hope !
   32. JJ1986 Posted: August 20, 2019 at 09:05 PM (#5873041)
I was going to say it looks really hard for a righty to hit Adam Cimber, but Todd Frazier got him perfectly for a single.

I honestly don't get how people hit submariners. Their delivery looks so weird.

Does anyone know why the scoreboard at Fenway had the Sox and Phillies starting the game with only five mound visits? It’s supposed to be six is t it?
   35. JJ1986 Posted: August 20, 2019 at 09:20 PM (#5873047)
Let's go Pirates, Giants, Brewers!
   36. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: August 20, 2019 at 09:21 PM (#5873048)

Still, a moron.

As far as I know, no one reached the limit last year or this. I'm so disappointed because there's no real penalty and I just want to see what'll happen.

LOL @Cubs

Offensive run-interference by the Offense. Safety called. Giants lead 5-3.

Every time a Cubs reliever comes off the IL, they find themselves immediately in a high-leverage situation (Cishek, momentarily ... Kintzler the other night.)

Homer German ain't a good name either.

Rizzo is having a nice night at the dish.
   61. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: August 20, 2019 at 10:36 PM (#5873080)
With the tying run on second base, Justin Upton got rung up on a pitch three inches below his knees. I hope he bangs his bat on the dugout ceiling or something, because that was infuriating.
   62. Never Give an Inge (Dave) Posted: August 20, 2019 at 10:36 PM (#5873081)
The Tribe fans, to their credit, stayed until the end of the game.

Section 330 seats are actually very good. You can’t see what’s happening in the LF corner but in row 9 we could turn and look at a TV screen to see the live broadcast on those plays. Not sure you’ll be able to see the tv in row 3 but you’ll have great views of most of the park.

Brian Goodwin with a solo in the ninth to tie it up at 2-2!
   66. phredbird Posted: August 20, 2019 at 10:53 PM (#5873085)

brewers fans must be going nuts tonight.

cards up 7-2 after scoring numerous runs, one on a bloop hit by yadier molina early on and then a bases loaded pop fly by dexter fowler that fell between the fielders in the 6th now a couple of bases loaded walks.
   67. Howie Menckel Posted: August 20, 2019 at 11:00 PM (#5873086)

I think I was in that exact section for the Mets' first game at Citi Field, against an incredibly anonymous Padres team. you look down and wonder why each team only has 8 players in the field before you realize there is an "invisible" LF.

for that game, they didn't even have that TV - you just had to watch the fans and the other players and how they moved. kind of a game of deduction to figure out what's going on.

I think I'll be sitting in that general area on Friday night - which sounds like an awesome night for a playoff-atmosphere ballgame vs the Braves. MGR Calloway and the newer Mets players are clearly fascinated by the level of fan intensity now.

call them frontrunners, but Mets fans get real quiet when the team sucks - when they are not booing like hell.

but when they are on a hot streak, it's a helluva ride.
   68. phredbird Posted: August 20, 2019 at 11:00 PM (#5873087)

man, brewers pitchers cannot find the plate tonight.

third bases loaded walk in the inning, cards are now up 9-2 in the 7th.

Another walk-off loss for the Angels. This season is taking forever.

NL WILD CARD

WAS 68-57
CHI 67-58

NYM 65-60
PHI 65-60
MIL 64-61 (unless they score at least 5 in the 9th vs STL)
SFG 63-63
ARI 63-63 (now tied 3-3 in 6th)
   71. rconn23 Posted: August 20, 2019 at 11:34 PM (#5873092)
Oakland is the new house of horrors foe the Yankees, replacing the Angels park. Fortunately, the Rays can't even beat Seattle and the A's will be in one-game playoff at best. Still, it's bad when you can't muster any offense against a retread stiff like Homer Bailey.

NL WILD CARD

WAS 68-57
CHI 67-58

NYM 65-60
PHI 65-60
MIL 64-62

A's down Yankees, 6-2.
Play of the game was Matt Olson's Hernandez-esque catch-spin-throw to start a beautiful 3-6-1 DP.
