HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!

Is Jefferson Manship (Dan Lee) OK? There's been no Primer Dugout for the last two days, which is very unusual, and he hasn't visited the site in that time. I hope he's fine, and something minor has kept him away, but I can't help being a bit worried.

HOW WILL JUAN SOTO DEMONSTRATE HIS COMPLETE OWNERSHIP OF THE STRIKE ZONE TONIGHT??

Nicely done!

Now ... score runs!

Anyone have all the Omnichatter TOPS SLOGANS in a .pdf file ?
Please post a link. I tried for half a year and then forgot to save them.
But the one thing I like about this site, are the Omnichatter names !

The SABR bullcrap is nice too.

Coley Harvey, ESPN Staff Writer

Yankees GM Brian Cashman was just asked about whether he'd listen to trade scenarios that include players in exchange for Gleyber Torres. His response? "No. Come on now. I've got to walk around this city."

Jamal Collier @JamalCollier
Juan Soto barely missed another home run. Ends up bouncing off the wall for a double. He’s still good.

Question answered. Huh.

And for those so inclined, our own Mikey Morse is sitting in the MASN Nationals TV booth with Bob Carpenter. He's...refreshing after a fashion.

If Gary Sanchez doesn't pick up stats-wise, will the Yankees send him to the Mets ?

Matt Harvey's melting down early today.

EDIT: Good defense could have really bailed him out there, but... nope. In his last 16 innings, 14 earned runs.

4 walks total in the minors this year .. 3 walks tonight.
   14. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 15, 2018 at 07:54 PM (#5693106)
First big league start, he might be a tiny bit amped/nervous.

I'm just noting, not complaining, he's been very solid tonight and he certainly has the stuff to make good.

And, for the most part, he's juuuuuuuuuust off the plate on a lot of the pitches.
   16. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 15, 2018 at 07:58 PM (#5693108)
His fastball's dancing. Nobody's squared him up at all. He's no Matt Harvey!

Sounds like an antacid.

Meanwhile, Gio Gonzalez is doing Gio things again. He keeps getting into trouble, stomping around talking to himself, and then getting out of trouble. Nats and Jays tied 3-3 in the 6th.

I love baseball.

I didn't think Harvey would survive long, but he's about to start the sixth, just 1 run allowed on two hits, two walks.

Huh, we seem to have no Dugout today (or yesterday). I hope all is well.

But since the Cubs broadcasters are going through today's birthdays, it's a pretty good team for June 15 ... and sorry, the default table doesn't give WAR so a few might differ from the real team ... and apologies if I missed Negro League, Japanese, etc. stars:

C: Lance Parrish
1B: Tony Clark
2B: Trevor Plouffe
SS: Cliff Pennington
3B: Wade Boggs
LF: Billy Willitams
CF: Brett Butler
RF: Dusty Baker

SP: Andy Pettitte
SP: Tim Lincecum
SP: Monte Weaver
SP: Bruce Del Canton
SP: Mike Fiers
RP: Ramiro Mendoza
RP: Josh Lindblom
RP: Lou North (no good but pitched in the 20s with 172 games and just 25 starts so a man ahead of his time.

Bench: Ken Henderson (15 WAR), Eduardo Nunez
Fun names: Peek-a-boo Veech, Champ Summers, Pid Purdy

And you thought things were going bad for the Orioles NOW??

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal
Orioles have interviewed former Dodgers GM Ned Colletti for an executive position, sources tell The Athletic. Team also believed to be interviewing others, but have not asked permission to speak with anyone currently working for a club. Colletti is an analyst for SportsNet LA.

Unclear how quickly the #Orioles will act, if at all, and what impact would be on executive VP of baseball operations Dan Duquette and manager Buck Showalter. Not unprecedented for team to hire new top executive in middle of season. Did it with Andy MacPhail on June 20, 2007.

Another day, another injury for the Angels. Fastball drills Chris Young in the left wrist. You could hear the scream on television. He's staying in the game for now, but he was wincing as he was using that hand to pull on a sliding glove.

Too bad the Athletics are bowing down, rolling over and waving the season goodbye.

Replay: making the game worse...again.

And the bad review call extends the inning and allows the Padres to push another run across the plate. I mean, f@ck the Braves, but they totally got hosed on that call. Swanson definitely went out of his way with an acrobatic move to tag 2B with his right toe, then throw to 1B to complete the double play. Replay completely screwed the pooch on that call.

I definitely remember those days. Cub games were often the early game, and so the Omnichatter was necessarily about the Cubs, and talk about that game would drown out other day games. That's just how it goes. The teams with the big followings get the big chatters. Nowadays, team-specific chat forums have leached a lot of that away from this site.

Darn good Birthday Team outfield today, and I presume Dusty would also be the manager.

And unfortunately Tony Clark the union rep.

There's really nothing bad on that birthday team. Two HoFers, 3 HoVGers (Parrish, Butler, Pettitte), a 2-CYA winner, Dusty adds 37 WAR, Pennington is at 0 career WAR, Clark and Plouffe were below-average but well above-replacement ... plus Ken Hnderson on the bench. Weaver, Dal Canton and Fiers (recent suckitude regardless) are league-average SPs. Bullpen needs some work and it depends a lot on which Lincecum years we get but this team would compete for at least a WC spot today which is pretty amazing for a birthday team.

Us Cub fans tend to keep to ourselves when we're grumpy unlike self-immolating Mets fans (for example). We mostly only gather in public when we're in a celebratory mode. We mostly keep our whining limited to the Gonfalon Cubs thread.** This season's been very bland -- we either win by blow out or we get 3-hit. Not much to say when half your games are over by the fourth and, in the others, it's quickly clear you won't be scoring any runs this week.

There's also the fact that, in the early years of omnichatter (versus game chatters), we sucked. We had nothing to talk about until late 2014 when some of the kids started coming up ... at which point our conversations were "hey, this Alcantara kid looks pretty good ... uh oh, he's now struck out 20 straight times." It took screwing Kris Bryant out of a few million dollars to really bring us out into the light of day.

** Of course last year we were a bit confused by that whole winning the WS thing and, early, we did some whining in public thinking such behavior was expected of us as privileged winners.
   85. Howie Menckel Posted: June 15, 2018 at 10:37 PM (#5693221)
Mets trying to break a string of 115 straight innings of not having 4 runners reach base - which would seem like a sure way to score a run.

looked good with 2nd and 3rd, nobody out, and a run scored in the 3rd - but then 2 out. then Bautista takes a 3-2 pitch that, to be fair, did not actually hit the ground. Leslie Nielsen, back from the dead for a 1-batter appearance behind the mask, eagerly punches out Bautista (metaphorically speaking).

the tendency for officials to bully bad/struggling teams transcends every sport. it's primal, I believe.

I don't even know where there is a team specific chatter for my team anymore. There are only something like three legitimate fan sites for the Cardinals, and almost all of them are full of anti-Cardinal fans who want to replace Matheny with the corpse of Whiney Herzog or some other guy who hasn't actually shown the ability to produce back to back winning seasons..... so you get nothing but haters instead of fans. Seriously, you aren't a real Cardinal fan if you think firing Matheny is an option. And you sure as hell aren't a real Cardinal fan if you think that Whiney Herzog was more successful as a Cardinal manager than Matheny.

And that is with acknowledging that Matheny admits he still needs to learn, but I'm pretty comfortable thinking that Matheny at 47 years old, is much smarter than Whiney Herzog was at 47.

The collapse of the Mets kind of defies belief. Every day I check and every day it continues.

On the other hand, Arizona has stopped their freefall (probably in part by landing on the Mets). Goldschmidt has another homer tonight.

Come on, baby, light my fire...

This is the first time the Mets have had 7 hits in a game since June 2. It breaks franchise record 9-game streak with 6 hits or fewer. The previous record was 7 in 1992 and 1962.

the Mets lost 120 games in 1962

this 2018 team started 11-1

I do have a theory, but sleep awaits

Mariners big comeback to beat the Red Sox 7-6. In a reversal of their typical 2018 pitching performances, King Felix finally pitched a great game yesterday and lost. James Paxton was crap today, but the little known Rob Whelan picked him up out of the pen.

What can be sweeter than to go to bed after seeing the Red Sox score 6 runs off the Mariners' ace, and then wake up to see the final score. The only thing that would've made it better would've been if it'd been Kelly and Kimbrel who'd blown it.
