I'm glad that Dan Vogelbach has found success. He's an archetypal baseball type.
   5. Bote Man Posted: June 13, 2019 at 04:35 PM (#5851541)
I'm glad that Dan Vogelbach has found success.

He had pretty good success with Tim Weisberg when they released Twin Sons of Different Mothers in 1978. Hit #8 on the charts.

Still widely available in the records bins at local thrift stores.

Hey—we get to see baseball history in tonight’s Royals/Tigers game:

The first ever MLB game played in Nebraska!
   9. Bote Man Posted: June 13, 2019 at 07:03 PM (#5851596)
Not as historic as it could be:

Jon Morosi @jonmorosi
Alex Gordon is not in Royals starting lineup in his home state of Nebraska after being hit by a pitch last night.

45-22. That is the Twins record as of today's win. They also clouted another 2 homers. WTF is going on?

Sun still rises in East, water is still wet...so that all seems normal, but seriously though, this is a good bit of fun.
   11. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 13, 2019 at 07:30 PM (#5851601)
Pence is just a freak. After the weird inside the parker the other day, he just hit one that hit the top of the low wall in deep right in Fenway and it popped back into the field of play for a stand up double.

I've never seen a ball come off the top of that low wall before like that, it was Pencian/Pencesque in it's uniqueness.....
   12. Bote Man Posted: June 13, 2019 at 07:33 PM (#5851602)
Erick Fedde is not starting out the evening well. He loaded the bases with Diamondbacks in the 1st inning, nobody out and escaped by the skin of his teeth trailing 2-0. Zeinke set down the Nats in order, now a circuit clout has Fedde trailing 3-0 in the 2nd. Looks like a good time to reinstall Windows on this old machine here.
   13. Walt Davis Posted: June 13, 2019 at 07:34 PM (#5851604)
The first ever MLB game played in Nebraska!

Prelude to the KC-Omaha Royals? We can only hope.

You can read my insightful analysis in the Twins thread ... basic conclusion is "WTF is going on?"
   15. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 13, 2019 at 08:04 PM (#5851610)
Red Sox now down 6-1 in the second. Their meandering road to mediocrity is predictable. At 35-34, they had to lose this game to maintain their .500 pace. Way to go Sox!

Please no pedantic responses to any of these "red sox road to mediocrity posts" as I'm not really whinging, just find it humorous that last year EVERYTHING went right and this year...well not so much. Baseball is a funny game sometimes.
   16. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 13, 2019 at 08:17 PM (#5851614)
Now 6-4 Rangers after a JBJ 3 run jack. JBJ now over the Mendoza line at a whopping .203! He's playing for a decent contract right now as he's a free man at the end of this year.

I hadn't realized the Mets had a relationship with Amway. Because of course the Mets have a relationship with Amway.
   18. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 13, 2019 at 08:30 PM (#5851617)
The Red Sox have a guy named Mike Shawaryn pitching. I have never heard of him. However he did pitch a tidy 3rd with no runs given up, so I approve of this most random middle reliever the Sox are now using.
   19. Jack Sommers Posted: June 13, 2019 at 08:39 PM (#5851619)
Suggest tuning in to the Dbacks game starting from the bottom of the 7th in 5 or 10 minutes.
   20. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 13, 2019 at 08:53 PM (#5851624)
Damn, I went to the Dbacks game, because there was a NoNo shown... then, I refreshed.
   21. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 13, 2019 at 08:53 PM (#5851625)
Back to Yankees.

Oh great, two groundouts.
   22. Jack Sommers Posted: June 13, 2019 at 08:54 PM (#5851626)
oh well.... he still got out of the 7th. Low pitch count. A CG SO is almost as rare as a no no used to be. So he;s still got a shot at that.
   23. The Yankee Clapper Posted: June 13, 2019 at 08:55 PM (#5851627)
ALERT: Yankees @ White Sox telecast on Extra Innings has the Sox head groundskeeper reminiscing about Disco Demolition Night.

While I have your attention, I'm preparing an article about what Greinke still needs to do to get into the HOF.

Any input appreciated :)

Red Sox going all Twins now. With 4 homers, tied it up at 6-6
   33. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 13, 2019 at 09:35 PM (#5851647)
Don't worry, the Twins are going on a slump-run soon.

33:32 , Raptors.The #### !

JA Happ can blow any game and Boone will no doubt give him the chance.
   36. rconn23 Posted: June 13, 2019 at 09:49 PM (#5851655)
A three-year deal for a fork in the back JA Happ will rival the Pavano disaster.

WTF HAPPend ?
   38. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 13, 2019 at 09:50 PM (#5851657)
Comeon Boone, you stats-ignorant idiot !
   39. rconn23 Posted: June 13, 2019 at 09:50 PM (#5851658)
Sure, just leave him in to give up the lead now. I mean, why not?
   40. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 13, 2019 at 09:51 PM (#5851659)
Shohei Ohtani with a cycle in 4 at-bats tonight.
   41. It was something about the man-spider and sodomy, Posted: June 13, 2019 at 09:52 PM (#5851660)
Like Neil Young sang:

Blue, blue windows behind the stars,
Yellow moon on the rise,
Big birds flying across the sky,
Throwing shadows on our eyes.
Leave us
Happless, Happless, Happless.

$5 dollars on Didi to win this game.

Shohei Ohtani with a cycle in 4 at-bats tonight.

Fake News !
   44. Banta Posted: June 13, 2019 at 10:04 PM (#5851665)
It's incredible to me that the Mets can never have a decent bullpen, no matter what they do.
   45. Davo (Love Won The Battle Of Stalingrad) Posted: June 13, 2019 at 10:09 PM (#5851672)
Ohtani: first Japanese-born player to hit for the cycle.
   46. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 13, 2019 at 10:10 PM (#5851676)
3rd foul for Hawaii Leonard ! In your island, Raptors !

And by the way, Nick Nurse, you are a friggin Cubs Maddon.
Halftime, focus on the Yanks.
   47. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: June 13, 2019 at 10:13 PM (#5851682)
First pitch of game schwarber takes Kershaw deep. Ok.
   48. rconn23 Posted: June 13, 2019 at 10:39 PM (#5851692)
The Yankee bullpen is already toast because no starter can go beyond five innings. Awful.
   49. Brian C Posted: June 13, 2019 at 10:45 PM (#5851694)
Through two innings, it looks like the "Dr. Jekyll" version of Lester has shown up tonight.
   50. For the Turnstiles (andeux) Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:07 PM (#5851725)
Ichiro could have hit for the cycle if he wanted.
   51. It was something about the man-spider and sodomy, Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:17 PM (#5851741)
Sure will be nice to have Stanton back so Gardner doesn't have to hit against LHP anymore.
   52. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:21 PM (#5851745)
Red Sox pen goes 7 2/3, no runs, they win the game 7-6 on 4 solo jobs and a 3 run homer.

The optimist in me says...corner turned! Here comes the 18 wins out of 21 game stretch.
   53. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:22 PM (#5851746)
Listening to Game 7 on the ESPN app and there's an ad break for the Cubs/Dodgers game on Saturday. One of the sound bites was the commentator going, "Bellinger's done it again!"

A moment later, Bellinger homered in real time.
   54. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:22 PM (#5851747)
Man, Dodgers offense is just scary in how quickly they can turn the game upside down.
   55. Spahn Insane Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:28 PM (#5851758)
walks: Seriously. Right after Freese singled off Lester, I went to the bathroom and grabbed a snack from the fridge requiring no prep, and as i was approaching the TV Muncy's homer was leaving the yard.
   56. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:45 PM (#5851787)
Was looking like a quick inning for Lester, but alas.
   57. Misirlou doesn't live in the restaurant Posted: June 14, 2019 at 12:08 AM (#5851825)
Don't look now, but that Oaf Joey Gallo is batting .276 with a 1.074 OPS, 3 for 3 in SB, and +6 fielding runs. He's 4th in the AL in position player WAR. It's a shame MLB let's guys like this play.
   58. Tom Nawrocki Posted: June 14, 2019 at 12:10 AM (#5851826)
Charlie Blackmon hit for the mega-cycle tonight: single, triple and two homers. I think any four-hit game with more than ten total bases qualifies as a mega-cycle.
   59. Walt Davis Posted: June 14, 2019 at 12:28 AM (#5851832)

Not sure that's sufficiently mega. But I will sign onto the following redefinition of a 'cycle' -- based on your own hits, you reached 1B 4+ times, 2B 3+ times, 3B 2+ times and home 1+ times. So a 4-HR game is also a cycle. 3HR and a single is a cycle. Two doubles and 2 HR is a cycle. Etc.

That's better. 5 doubles shouldn't be a cycle. Or 2 doubles and 2 triples. Or 1 HR and 6 singles.

Would you believe...kilo-cycle??
   62. The usual palaver and twaddle (Met Fan Charlie) Posted: June 14, 2019 at 10:22 AM (#5851902)
If we were still playing by the old school rules, the Mets come away with a 4-2, 8-inning W and a win for deGrom.
