HOW WILL THE ANGELS POST OMNICHATTER LATE TODAY?!

Rays@Yanks

Phillies@Mets

both snowed out.

First Cubs day game chatter of the year. Not too busy, so I'll have the livestream on too watching it.

Kind of funny to think back on how hard things used to be to legally watch stuff you wanted online. What a time to be alive.

So this DeJong thing is not gonna be a fluke, huh?
   5. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 02, 2018 at 04:15 PM (#5647117)
It's 44 degrees in Cinci at first pitch.

Guess it's good it's a late afternoon start, rather than at night.

Rizzo just got his 3rd HBP of the season. First one was a lean in, elbow special (though he doesn't wear one of those big brace things); 2nd was what would have been ball 4 right to his shoulder (so not getting out of the way no matter what); this was a curve that got his foot though looked like he tried to get out of the way.

Willson has a K problem so far this year.

History is being made today, folks:

Joel Luckhaupt @jluckhaupt

I know you're wondering, so I'll end your anticipation....

Yes, today will be the first time 2 pitchers named Tyler will start against each other (Tyler Chatwood v Tyler Mahle)

Willson has a K problem so far this year.
The middle of the alphabet seems to be an issue for him.

Is it just me, or are the 1b/3b umps calling way more strikes on appeal this year than ever before? Maybe it's just been a thing in the Cubs games, but they're calling strikes at like a 95% rate unofficially per my memory.
   10. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 02, 2018 at 04:42 PM (#5647142)
4 Cubs in a row strike out, and Javy ends the streak by hitting an opposite field stand up triple. What are the odds...
   11. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 02, 2018 at 04:51 PM (#5647154)
Sign of The Decline? The Apocalypse? A Second Renaissance? Bartolo Colon has been called up by the Texas Rangers and is starting tonight.
   12. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 02, 2018 at 05:13 PM (#5647174)
The Cubs sure seem to be the victim of some outstanding defense so far this season. More than their fair share - Maddon said they had 4 outs made on balls hit 100+MPH yesterday, and just now Russell hit another scorcher that turned into a DP.
   13. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 02, 2018 at 05:25 PM (#5647178)
Cubs being shut out through 5 against Cinci today, after being shut out yesterday in MIA. Only 1 hit even. Stupid inconsistent offense.
   14. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 02, 2018 at 05:33 PM (#5647183)
So many damn walks. 4 now for Chatwood, 2nd time he's walked the 2 guys directly in front of Votto.

Stupid inconsistent offense.
At what point does this become a real "thing" rather than just a frustrating accident of run distribution? This was an irritating issue last year as well.
   16. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 02, 2018 at 05:41 PM (#5647190)
Rizzo just hit one to LF that might have been a HR in less cold conditions.

Suarez has a terrible platinum blonde dye job, that would be just as terrible in less cold conditions.

Same question about all these walks allowed, as Chatwood just walked his 5th guy.
   18. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 02, 2018 at 05:49 PM (#5647193)
Happ had been fine in CF before today, he's been less good today. The earlier triple he got too close to the wall and it got away; this double he had a terrible jump and then dove late.
   19. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 02, 2018 at 05:52 PM (#5647194)
It's "fun" imagining how badly Lester would have ###### up that play - a squibbed hit off Hamilton's bat towards first that Chatwood underhand threw home and got the runner.
   20. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 02, 2018 at 05:53 PM (#5647197)
It's hard not to like Chatwood's stuff - his control is total #### though.
   21. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 02, 2018 at 06:01 PM (#5647202)
Great job by Schwarber drawing that walk after falling behind 0-2. He really seems to be seeing the ball great so far this year - only 4Ks so far this season.

And the hit and run fails...
   22. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: April 02, 2018 at 06:19 PM (#5647212)
For the sake of posterity, this chatter has been infinitely more entertaining than this Cubs performance today.
   23. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 02, 2018 at 06:21 PM (#5647213)
"one god damn hit?"
   24. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 02, 2018 at 06:22 PM (#5647214)
But wait...some signs of life, maybe?
   25. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 02, 2018 at 06:23 PM (#5647215)
I'll admit I've not been able to see any Cubs action since the inning where Lester imploded. Have the bats been as anemic as the box scores suggest?
   26. Brian C Posted: April 02, 2018 at 06:29 PM (#5647216)
Rizzo of all people jumps out of the way of a pitch with the bases loaded and down one run. I mean, it was at his knees, so I don't blame him or anything. Just thought, "huh, that's ironic."
   27. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: April 02, 2018 at 06:35 PM (#5647219)
Flags fly forever but it’d be cool if the cubs didn’t suck

Harper's now torrid pace to be known as "$450 million dollar contract pace"

No-one tell the Marlins to play the third-base line.
   31. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: April 02, 2018 at 09:00 PM (#5647255)
Red Sox looking good at 5-1. As long as the pen doesn't pull a "joe kelly" this should be in the bag.

They ain't hitting any homers(well Hanley got one today) but when your SP only give up 1 run for every start you don't need them.
   32. Jay Seaver Posted: April 02, 2018 at 09:15 PM (#5647260)
Mookie!

I know it's the Marlins, and they're worse than the Rays, but this is feeling pretty good.
   33. Jose is an Absurd Doubles Machine Posted: April 02, 2018 at 09:57 PM (#5647264)
That Walden kid doesn’t look ready. He did the job both days but he got hammered. Other than that last ground out every ball hit against him has been tagged.
   34. Jay Seaver Posted: April 02, 2018 at 10:07 PM (#5647266)
Is Wright expected to go straight to Boston when his suspension is finished? Seems like Walden is just keeping someone's seat warm.

EDIT: Ah, he doesn't even start the suspension until he's off the DL. But Pomeranz or Rodriguez will probably push someone to the bullpen and then Walden to Pawtucket.
   35. Jose is an Absurd Doubles Machine Posted: April 02, 2018 at 10:11 PM (#5647268)
Yeah. I think the plan is Johnson will work out of the pen since he’s out of options I think. Velazquez can go to Pawtucket and hang around when those guys are back.

Dear lord, has Bartolo Colon gotten even fatter this year??

Dear lord, has Bartolo Colon gotten even fatter this year?

He's half Andy's age, twice his size, and pitching in MLB. Extraordinary.
   38. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: April 02, 2018 at 11:41 PM (#5647318)
The Angels just had a mound visit with the catcher and infielders, clearly to stall while a reliever took.a few extra pitches in the bullpen, and then Scioscia finally trudged out and made the pitching change. Apparently that doesn't count as a mound visit. Pathetic.

Andrelton Simmons, by contrast, is pretty awesome.
   39. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 03, 2018 at 12:29 AM (#5647335)
Colon's line:
PITCHER IP H R ER BB K HR PC-ST ERA
B. Colon 6.0 7 1 1 1 4 1 89-62 1.50

Not bad for an old out-of-shape guy.
   40. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: April 03, 2018 at 02:04 AM (#5647362)
It’s only the 11th inning and the Dodgers are on their 8th reliever.
   41. A Dying Soul Posted: April 03, 2018 at 02:49 AM (#5647366)
14th inning and both teams are on their last reliever. Game keeps on going and going...

Font has been geat
   42. A Dying Soul Posted: April 03, 2018 at 03:14 AM (#5647367)
Finally a run! Utley drives in Bellinger to make it 7-6 and lets hope Font has 1 more inning left in him. I wonder how many times a reliever has had 2 sac bunts in game before.
