1. rconn23 Posted: June 25, 2018 at 01:02 PM (#5699149)Now that's not fair. Only about 15 of them are terrible.
in other news, the Yankees sent Erik Kratz to the Brewers on May 25 for a box of baseballs to be named later. Kratz - who had a lifetime OPS+ for the Yankees of 546 (a single and a double in 2 PA last year) - is at 141 in 40 PA for the Brewers.
27 HR in 638 AB - for his MLB career. the former Pirate I/Phillie I/Blue Jay/Royal/Phillie II/Astro/Pirate II/Yankee is 38 years old and has a lifetime MLB AVG of .208, but he'd come in handy right now.
That sounds promising, almost like that Angels pitcher/batter. What was his name again ?
BREAKING: Realmuto to Yankees for nothing of any importance
hitflail pathetically ...A FRICKIN' LAZER FROM JUDGE!
Let's jinx that thing and make someone single off of the ####### loudspeaker !
pitch 17 isn't even close - but it was a 3-0 count, and it's fun to bully the Mets so 3-1. after a foul, Bautista then swings at ball 5 to strike out.
and Cabrera hits into a DP on a 3-2 pitch, and the MetVille 9 have flamed out
Matheny is just terrible. I'm no fan of that play, in general, in the 1st inning, but with this team, that's just stupid.
Assuming that call came from the manager(which is a pretty big stretch in my opinion) it must have been because Matheny was watching the rain delay show and saw all the 80's Cardinal style of baseball, and decided to idiotically imitate Whitey Herzog and his rally killing ways.
Even if it was called from the dugout, I'm not really seeing a huge problem with it for this team right now. We've been having problems scoring runs by any means other than homeruns lately, so a quick strike to start the game and give the team a bit of confidence may not be entirely a bad thing.
their .216 home AVG is the lowest of any team in 50 years.
this loss gives them 14 home losses in 15 games.
I am due to attend a couple of games because I like baseball - and I won't fret over getting into the stadium for about $5 on Stubhub.
41 and 2 fair balls now
Cardinals announcers have been bagging on Cardinal strikeouts for a week consecutive, they even talk about it when off the air. I saw Mclaughlin in the grocery store and he was acting like a homeless man muttering about strikeouts and "why can't you just put the ball in play, nothing can happen if you strike out. "
add in that they gave this nugget, the Cardinals have the fewest doubles in baseball and fewest triples in baseball (and only more extra bases hits than the Marlins)
Statcast called it 471 feet, for the 8th longest HR in the majors this season.
If anything, just listen to the sound of the bat crack. Wonderful sound.
it's a good city
Darren O'Day pitching to Nelson Cruz, top of the 9th man on first no outs, Mariners up 5-3. O'Day makes the pitch and Cruz pops it up foul to first baseman Chris Davis for the first out. As the Orioles are going back to their positions home plate ump Stu Scheurwater called the previous pitch a balk. Replays showed no obvious balk move by O'Day, and Scheurwater never signaled a balk at all except verbally after the out had been recorded by Davis. None of the other umpires signaled balk either. O'Day said something to Scheurwater and was immediately ejected. It was his first ejection in 576 appearances and only the second balk of his major league career, both of which were called by Scheurwater. Afterwards, Buck Showalter accused Scheurwater of "over-umpiring" and said he hoped the league would fix that.
I'm sure they'll get right on it.
Well, congrats on your first shutout inning, Duane, but we're gonna need you to get it down below 40 pitches per inning please.
So far so good on the pitch count and no real complaints on the runs allowed either ... now, if our vaunted offense would start doing its job, maybe we can get the kid a W.
Have a game, Randall!
some cities have their own style - but many don't, even some of the big ones. Pittsburgh has it.
Before I go grab my hand-wringing gloves to worry over which players are going to the All-Star Game, I'll just remind everyone that this time it just doesn't mattter.
From June 25 to July 31st 1999, Randy had 8 starts, 5 complete games, 65 ip, had a 1.25 era(pitched into the 7th or later in every game and never allowed more than two runs) and had a 2-5 record in that time frame, 95 strikeouts also.
In that stretch Jose Jimenez threw a no hitter against the Diamond backs(1-0 score), Villone/Williamson of the Reds had a 1 hitter against them(2-0), Jimenez then threw a two hitter against them(1-0), Hudson/Taylor of the A's 3 hit them(2-0), lost 3-2 against Texas(team lost, he left when he was up 2-0 going to the bottom of the ninth), and then he has his offense show up for a 6-0 shutout against the Mariners, then another loss(2-1) on a three hitter by the Dodgers and Kevin Brown/Shaw, then a relief as he gets a 4-2 win against the Dodgers.
And the Diamondbacks had the best offense in the NL that year.
Cubs got swept by the Reds because the pitching was total dogshit.
Along with today's game, it's 23 runs in the last 9 games. For the month then it's 83 runs in 23 games, with 41 of those runs coming in just 5 games. Fortunately the pitching and defense has held opps to 85 runs, with 31 of those coming in Cincy.
Cubs RS and RA by month:
M/A: 5.1 3.7
May: 5.3 3.6
Jun: 3.6 3.7
I think I know which one is to blame for the current swoon.
